Eastridge/BK's Krupa tops Section Five Best

Ada Krupa is a record breaking finisher and a record breaking starter. The Eastridge/BK senior broke the program record for goals last week after scoring four in a dominating win last Wednesday. Krupa currently has 208 after adding 12 more in the last three Lancer contests. She also snagged 32 draw controls in the last four games, three of which were wins. Krupa has 560 of those for her career and that is the most in Section Five history (with the caveat the stat has only been tracked for the last ten seasons). More than worthy enough to top the Section Five Best for May 13th, but that wasn't all. Spencerport's Jayda Solomon won the 100 meters in the Monroe County meet and followed with wins in the 100 and 200 at the Flower City Invitational. She currently has the best Section Five time this season in both events. Speaking of a top time, Penfield's Micah Davis put up the fastest mark in the 400 last week with a finish of 49.45 seconds. That run earned him a dual meet win and he followed with three impressive finishes at a state wide meet in Albany: 1st in the 200, 2nd in the 100 and 5th in the long jump. On the diamond, Geneseo's Adelyn McDonald pitched four complete games last week and allowed only four runs with a whopping 63 strikeouts. She added a 3-4 day with four RBIs on Monday in a 3-1 week for the Blue Devils. Anna Forman led Athena flag football to three wins with 482 yards passing and five touchdowns. That included the only score in a 7-0 win over Spencerport. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

‘Safety is our #1 concern': New security measures enforced ahead of festival season

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — As many folks plan their annual outings to one of the many festivals happenings in our region, event organizers are encouraging patrons to keep in mind new security protocols in place. Executive Producer of the Rochester Lilac Festival Jenny Lomaglio shared one way in which the event will look a little different this year. 'You'll definitely notice some changes, including our new bag policy, which mirror other events in Rochester,' Lomaglio said. Organizers of the Spencerport Fireman's Carnival are implementing a similar change along with a few other new rules and policies: The Spencerport Volunteer Firemen's Association will be implementing the following: ● The perimeter of the carnival grounds will be fenced. There will be two entrances into the property with contracted security personnel conducting bag checks. ● Under no circumstances will ANY BACKPACKS, DUFFEL BAGS, OR DRAWSTRING BAGS be allowed. Bags that are accepted include: fanny pack/belt bags, clear bags, small purses (under 6' x 8'), diaper bags, and medical bags. Signage will be posted in the parking lot, and at each entry. Please be prepared to leave your backpack in your vehicle during your visit. ● Individuals under 18 years of age must be escorted by a parent or guardian at least 21 years of age. Parents or guardians should be prepared to show valid identification that includes a photograph and date of birth (driver's license, non-driver ID card, Passport, or Visa). Non-parental guardians with ID may escort up to two (2) under-age individuals. Security will have discretion on admittance. ● No pets allowed. Please leave your pet at home. Pets will be turned away. Service animals will be admitted. ● Weapons, including but not limited to firearms, blades, knives, sharp objects of any kind, and pepper spray will not be permitted. Aaron Baker, President of the Spencerport Volunteer Firemen's Association President of the Spencerport Volunteer Firemen's Association Aaron Baker explained what led to their department revising their event rules. 'It wasn't until the last few years that we really started seeing an uptick in youth that were coming here with no desire to get on rides or eat food or anything,' Baker said. 'They were just here to cause trouble.' One of the incidents Baker is referring to happened last year in both Spencerport and East Rochester, where more than 200 people broke out into fights. In East Rochester, a 17-year-old was refused entry at their annual carnival for possessing a loaded firearm. Baker says the new protocols they've implemented will be familiar to many who have attended a concert or sporting event in the past. 'If you go to Highmark stadium or Blue Cross Arena, you're expected to go through a series of security protocols including bag checks, metal detectors and whatnot,' Baker said. So people are already used to that type of thing.' And, of course, Baker explained while he and many other event organizers in the Rochester area want folks to have fun, safety is their number one priority. 'I think people really enjoy going to the carnival, but we want to make sure that they're safe,' Baker said. Primetime 585 Spotlight Team: Arcadia flag football

GREECE, N.Y. (WROC) — The Primetime 585 Spotlight Team of the Week is the Greece Arcadia flag football team. The Titans beat Spencerport 41-7 on Monday behind senior quarterback Aimee Turner's four touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown. The senior has put up impressive numbers in all four games for Arcadia, totaling nine passing touchdowns so far this season. 'We just understand how winning is really important to us,' Turner said. 'We do a lot of work outside of the game, so we just get really prepared. We've got great coaches, and everyone on the team shows up and does their best.' Senior wide receiver Kaitlyn Spring had a two-touchdown day against Spencerport, including a 21-yard pass from Turner. She ended the day with three receptions for 36 yards, helping the Titans remain undefeated. 'We know who we are, we know each task. Every game's different, we take that step,' head coach Matt Lapinski said. 'We have this mentality of just win, figure out a way and we just get it done.' Sophomore running back Vivian Koffa added six carries for 75 yards, including a 59-yard touchdown run. The Titans also dominate on defense, led by Turner with seven flag pulls in Monday's victory. So far this season, the team has only allowed one offensive touchdown. 'This started three years ago, and a lot of these girls on this team are on their third year,' assistant coach Brian Shonitsky said. 'We started with sayings: 'Write the script, build an army, relentless effort.'' When asked if this year's goal is a sectional title, junior running back/wide receiver Samantha Mau had a simple answer. 'We need to get it done this year,' she said. 'There's no way around it, it needs to be done this year.' Congratulations to Arcadia for being the Primetime 585 Spotlight Team of the Week! Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Spencerport boys lacrosse opens season with chilly, dominant win

SPENCERPORT, N.Y. (WROC) — The Spencerport boys lacrosse team opened up their 2025 season with a convincing victory, taking down the defending Class C sectional champions from Honeoye Falls-Lima 13-5 on Tuesday evening. Spencerport led 4-0 after the first quarter, 9-0 at halftime, and scored the first ten goals of the game. Gavin Brown led the Ragners with four goals. Jayden Mandarano had a hat-trick, with all of his goals coming in the first quarter. Zach Tortora also had three goals. Zachary Ajavananda had one goal and three assists. Spencerport (1-0) will look to continue their momentum into their next game when they host Williamsville East on Saturday, April 5th. The Rangers finished 10-8 last year, losing to the eventual sectional champs from Victor in the Class B semifinals. Honeoye Falls-Lima (0-1) will try and bounce back on Thursday, April 3rd when they host East. The Cougars lost a handful of key players from last year's sectional title squad, including Chase Perryman and News 8 Primetime 585 Elite Award Winner Drew Angelo. However, they return numerous talented players like Quinn Kalibourne and Grady Goodberlet and should once again be a contender in Class C. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
