Primetime 585 Spotlight Team: Arcadia flag football

Yahoo25-04-2025

GREECE, N.Y. (WROC) — The Primetime 585 Spotlight Team of the Week is the Greece Arcadia flag football team.
The Titans beat Spencerport 41-7 on Monday behind senior quarterback Aimee Turner's four touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown.
The senior has put up impressive numbers in all four games for Arcadia, totaling nine passing touchdowns so far this season.
'We just understand how winning is really important to us,' Turner said. 'We do a lot of work outside of the game, so we just get really prepared. We've got great coaches, and everyone on the team shows up and does their best.'
Senior wide receiver Kaitlyn Spring had a two-touchdown day against Spencerport, including a 21-yard pass from Turner. She ended the day with three receptions for 36 yards, helping the Titans remain undefeated.
'We know who we are, we know each task. Every game's different, we take that step,' head coach Matt Lapinski said. 'We have this mentality of just win, figure out a way and we just get it done.'
Sophomore running back Vivian Koffa added six carries for 75 yards, including a 59-yard touchdown run.
The Titans also dominate on defense, led by Turner with seven flag pulls in Monday's victory. So far this season, the team has only allowed one offensive touchdown.
'This started three years ago, and a lot of these girls on this team are on their third year,' assistant coach Brian Shonitsky said. 'We started with sayings: 'Write the script, build an army, relentless effort.''
When asked if this year's goal is a sectional title, junior running back/wide receiver Samantha Mau had a simple answer.
'We need to get it done this year,' she said. 'There's no way around it, it needs to be done this year.'
Congratulations to Arcadia for being the Primetime 585 Spotlight Team of the Week!

'Not coming back': Selwyn Cobbo cops massive new blow after Broncos axing

Selwyn Cobbo might be hard-pressed getting back into the Broncos' first-grade team anytime soon after Josiah Karapani bagged a double and looked very strong on Saturday night. Karapani scored two of Brisbane's eight tries as the Broncos bounced back to form with a 44-14 thrashing of the Titans. Starting in place of the axed Cobbo, Karapani had 15 runs for 176 metres, as well as three tackle breaks and two line breaks. The 23-year-old, who'd only played 11 games in first grade before Saturday night, doubled his career try tally and looked every bit an NRL player. He vindicated coach Michael Maguire's decision to bring him in to replace Cobbo, after also getting the nod over regular first-grader Deine Mariner. Cobbo was spotted at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night, and helped the team run through their warmup drills. He appeared to be in good spirits, and reportedly took his demotion well. Maguire explained the decision to dump him to reserve grade on Friday, saying: "As a group, and as a leadership group and as a coach, we're pushing standards here and expectations in how we're doing things, and Karapani's got his opportunity and Selly's got to look at a few things in his game. "(Karapani) has been really consistent in the way he's been playing through the pre -season ... and he's obviously experienced first grade. When he has played, he's played really well. I know he'll do a good job." Maguire refused to divulge on the areas of Cobbo's game he wants to see improved, but said he "definitely" could force his way back into the side. "I'm here to coach the team. We're creating standards and ... the more you meet those, the more opportunities you have," Maguire said. Complicating the situation with Cobbo is the fact he's off-contract at the end of 2025. According to reports, the Broncos haven't tabled him a formal offer and have prioritised the re-signing of centre Kotoni Staggs. With Gehamat Shibasaki and Jesse Arthars proving themselves as genuine first-graders, and Grant Anderson set to join the Broncos from Melbourne in 2026, it's looking increasingly likely that Cobbo will depart. If the Broncos choose to keep Cobbo, it'll likely be a one-year extension that would allow him to chase the riches on offer at expansion teams Perth or PNG from 2027. Unless there's an injury or Reece Walsh is called up for State of Origin duty for Queensland, Cobbo is set for a decent stint in Queensland Cup. One person wrote on social media: "When the media chimed up and slated Madge from dropping Cobbo, you just knew Karapani would salute. He did. Brilliant." Another wrote: "Karapani has got to retain his position after tonight. I like him a lot more than Cobbo on that wing." While a third added: "Cobbo aint coming back into this side anytime soon. Just the response we needed. Karapani has stood up." Karapani has got to retain his position after tonight. Titans Trade Pitch Uses Treylon Burks to Land Disgruntled All-Pro WR

Titans Trade Pitch Uses Treylon Burks to Land Disgruntled All-Pro WR originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Tennessee Titans have spent the entire offseason building around quarterback Cam Ward, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. After a three-win campaign in 2024, new general manager Mike Borgonzi put in the work to ease Ward's transition to the professional level. Advertisement This included the additions of veteran wideouts Tyler Lockett and Van Jefferson in free agency, as well as the selections of wide receivers Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor and tight end Gunnar Helm in the draft. While these players will supplement returners Calvin Ridley and Chig Okonkwo, the Titans could still benefit from having a true No. 1 wide receiver on the roster. Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin (17).Bill Streicher-Imagn Images Last season, Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin had a career year with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. However, the team refuses to give him an extension this offseason, and trade rumors have swirled around the 2024 Second-Team All-Pro. Advertisement That could potentially work to the Titans' benefit, as Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox drafted a trade proposal in which McLaurin lands in Tennessee. In return, the Titans would send a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 fifth-round pick, and former first-round wide receiver Treylon Burks, who has been a bust through three NFL seasons. "McLaurin has already proven his worth as an aid to a young quarterback. That should interest the Tennessee Titans, who just used the No. 1 overall pick on Miami quarterback Cam Ward," Knox wrote. "A trio of Calvin Ridley, Van Jefferson and Tyler Lockett is respectable, but Tennessee doesn't have a true No. 1 receiver on its roster." Burks is yet to eclipse 700 career receiving yards through his first three seasons, and he has only played in 27 games due to injury. Parting with him and two mid-round picks would be a no-brainer for the Titans, who have plenty of young talent on the roster to develop already. Ward will need all the help that he can get during his rookie season and beyond, and McLaurin helped Daniels win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2024. McLaurin could be the missing piece for head coach Brian Callahan's offense.
