Primetime 585 Spotlight Team: HF-L girls lacrosse
After securing the program's 15th sectional title in 18 years, the Primetime 585 Spotlight Team of the Week is the HF-L girls lacrosse team. The Cougars earned a brick by defeating Pal-Mac 9-6 in the Class C championship game. 'All of these kids are my own kids, and my husband feels the same way,' assistant coach Aria Goodberlet said. 'Every kid on this team, we treat every kid like they're our own. It's a blessing to watch these girls grow and see what they're capable of.' Freshman Harper Jacob, an All-Tournament selection, led the way for the Cougars with three goals to earn 84 points so far this season. Junior Shaye Angelo, committed to Duke University, scored two goals and was named tournament MVP. Angelo has been playing varsity since eighth grade and has a season-high 137 points going into regionals. 'Everyone tonight stepped up, played their role,' Angelo said. 'We had some awesome plays by younger classmen. Everyone played their role and we came together tonight.' Senior Caroline Smith has also been a force on defense for HF-L this season. After the win, Smith talked about HF-L's lacrosse dynasty, as the boys also ended this season with a sectional title. 'It's very special. I think it says a lot about our program, about how everyone is just one big family and just hard workers,' Smith said. Head coach Kristin Butka coached the junior varsity team for 15 years, but this year is her first season at the helm of the varsity program. 'Being a part of this program for 15 years, I've gotten to see each and every one of these girls grow from when they're itty-bitty and grow into these amazing young women,' Butka said. 'They truly played for each other tonight. Watching them put pieces together and pulling out the win at the end against a very strong Pal-Mac team, I could not be more proud of this team.' Congratulations to Coach Butka and the HF-L Cougars for being named the Spotlight Team of the Week! Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Primetime 585 Spotlight Team: Canandaigua Girls Lacrosse
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (WROC) — The Primetime 585 Spotlight Team is the Canandaigua girls lacrosse team. The Gray Wolves pulled off an overtime win against a very good HF-L team. With HF-L's Duke commit Shay Angelo scoring 4 goals, the Cougars seemed to be in control and were leading 8-6 with under 3 and a half minutes left to go. But Canandaigua would get 3 quick goals from Leah Sheridan, Lola Schorr and Nola Weaver to take a 9-8 lead with 1:29 left. But HFL's Sarah Smith would tie the game at 9 with just 21 seconds left to send the game into overtime. After the defense stopped HFL on the first possession of overtime, Weaver took a beautiful pass from Schorr and put it in the back of the net to give Canandaigua the thrilling comeback victory! The assist was Schorr's fifth of the game. Congratulations to Coach Alyssa Zacharias and the Canandaigua girls for earning the Spotlight Team of the Week. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Primetime 585 Spotlight Team: Williamson girls track and field
WILLIAMSON, N.Y. (WROC) — The Primetime Spotlight team of the week is the Williamson Girls track and field team. The girls won their fourth consecutive sectional championship in class B3 by an incredible 62 points. 'They all contributed,' head coach Carl Comstock said. 'It starts in November and it goes all the way through. And everybody did what they needed to do. It's not a one-person thing. It's a 30 girl thing.' Madison Nuessle is one of the few seniors who have been a part of all four sectional championships. There's a good chance there will be five in a row because more than a third of the Marauders are juniors. 'It's amazing,' Nuessle said. 'I wish I could say they're not going to do it again next year without me, but they will. These juniors are crazy. I'm just glad I got to be a part of it every year. It's so nice just to be part of this little family.' Williamson dominated the 1,500 race walk by placing 1-4, earning the team 31 points alone in the race, with Faith Atwater winning with a time of 8:40.92 Williamson also has Hannah Governor, a three-time News 8 Primetime Elite Award winner who won the 1500 with a time of 5:06.50. The second-place runner was 34 seconds behind her!! Hannah also won the 3000 by 37 seconds and added another first-place finish in the 1,000 meters. Hannah's older sister Alexa was also an accomplished Section Five distance runner. That last name has become a target on the Williamson junior's back. 'There is some pressure because I know people are trying to race me in everything,' Governor said. 'It feels good because I definitely worked for it. My coaches are really supportive of everything.' The Marauders won the 4×200 and the 4×400 relays. In the field events, Madyson Storey easily won the high jump to earn another 10 points for her team. Congratulations to Coach Comstock and the Williamson girls varsity track and field team for earning the Class B3 Sectional Championship and the Spotlight Team of the Week!
