Primetime 585 Spotlight Team: HF-L girls lacrosse

Yahoo06-06-2025
After securing the program's 15th sectional title in 18 years, the Primetime 585 Spotlight Team of the Week is the HF-L girls lacrosse team.
The Cougars earned a brick by defeating Pal-Mac 9-6 in the Class C championship game.
'All of these kids are my own kids, and my husband feels the same way,' assistant coach Aria Goodberlet said. 'Every kid on this team, we treat every kid like they're our own. It's a blessing to watch these girls grow and see what they're capable of.'
Freshman Harper Jacob, an All-Tournament selection, led the way for the Cougars with three goals to earn 84 points so far this season.
Junior Shaye Angelo, committed to Duke University, scored two goals and was named tournament MVP. Angelo has been playing varsity since eighth grade and has a season-high 137 points going into regionals.
'Everyone tonight stepped up, played their role,' Angelo said. 'We had some awesome plays by younger classmen. Everyone played their role and we came together tonight.'
Senior Caroline Smith has also been a force on defense for HF-L this season. After the win, Smith talked about HF-L's lacrosse dynasty, as the boys also ended this season with a sectional title.
'It's very special. I think it says a lot about our program, about how everyone is just one big family and just hard workers,' Smith said.
Head coach Kristin Butka coached the junior varsity team for 15 years, but this year is her first season at the helm of the varsity program.
'Being a part of this program for 15 years, I've gotten to see each and every one of these girls grow from when they're itty-bitty and grow into these amazing young women,' Butka said. 'They truly played for each other tonight. Watching them put pieces together and pulling out the win at the end against a very strong Pal-Mac team, I could not be more proud of this team.'
Congratulations to Coach Butka and the HF-L Cougars for being named the Spotlight Team of the Week!

Injury status update for Jaguars DT Arik Armstead following Friday's practice

Here is the latest injury update for Jaguars' DT Arik Armstead. Jacksonville Jaguars' defensive tackle Arik Armstead participated in stretch during Friday's practice and then worked off the side with his helmet on. Armstead has yet to practice in training camp up to this point as he works through a back injury. Although he still isn't participating in the team portion of practice, it was a good sign on Friday that he was able to participate in some capacity. As far as when Armstead will be back going through team drills, that timeline hasn't been reported. Working with Armstead off to the side was Maason Smith, who was activated off the PUP list recently and is working his way back. "I think there's a little bit of a difference there with one being a 12-year vet and the other being a second, third-year player," Liam Coen said of Smith and Armstead getting reacclimated. "So I think there's maybe a little bit of a difference there, but very similar to where you don't really know what you have the position truly. You feel like, man, we could get better here with these guys coming back on the grass." Coen also noted the difference between being in conditioning shape and being in football shape, with Smith and Armstead both working towards the latter prior to Week 1 after missing time. After playing mostly at defensive end last season, Armstead is moving back to defensive tackle, where he put together some highly productive seasons with San Francisco. The return of Armstead and Smith will provide the Jaguars' defensive tackle position with a big boost, but as Coen acknowledged, overall, there is still unknown when it comes to what Jacksonville has with this unit as a whole.

NFL Great Makes Bold Statement Against Tom Brady, Peyton Manning

NFL Great Makes Bold Statement Against Tom Brady, Peyton Manning originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning were arguably the two greatest quarterbacks of their generation, combining for nine Super Bowl wins and eight NFL MVP awards. While they dominated the NFL spotlight for much of their careers, other legendary quarterbacks also left their mark, including former New Orleans Saints star Drew Brees. Brees may not match Brady and Manning's accolades, with one Super Bowl title and one MVP award, but he still believes he could beat both in one category to this day. Brees Had Words For Brady and Manning On Friday, Brees made a guest appearance on "The Dan Patrick Show." When discussing the longest run of his NFL career (23 yards), Brees, who was not known for his mobility, made a point to mention that he preferred throwing. "Hey, move the chains, get your team into the end zone," Brees said. "I'd much rather throw it to the guys who know what they're doing." Then, Brees was asked if he could outrun Manning, who also lacked speed. "Absolutely," Brees said. "Smoke him. Crush him. He's got short legs. He's all torso." Brees was then asked the same question about Brady. "Oh, Brady," Brees added. "Brady would be at the 25-yard line when I cross the 40." Then, Brees met his match when asked if he could beat Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. "No," Brees said. "He would be at the 40, I would be at the (25)." Who Was The Better Runner in the NFL? Brady, Manning and Brees were certainly not known for their rushing ability, but their passing is what made them special. But who was the best?During Brady's 22-year career with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he managed to run the ball 693 times for 1,123 yards and 28 touchdowns, an average of 1.6 yards per carry and 3.4 per game. He also ran a 5.17-second 40-yard dash in the 2000 NFL combine. Manning, who ran a 4.80-second 40-yard dash, played four fewer seasons than Brady. He finished his career with the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos with 431 rushes for 667 yards and 18 touchdowns, averaging 1.5 yards per carry and 2.5 per in his 20 seasons (including the San Diego Chargers), managed 498 carries for 752 yards and 25 touchdowns, finishing with a 1.5 yards per carry average and 2.6 per game. His 40-yard dash was just short of Manning's at 4.83 story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 8, 2025, where it first appeared.

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Years removed from his NFL career, Dez Bryant is still very much tapped into the football world. With his playing days in the rearview, he is now looking to become a mentor to the next generation. During his time with the Dallas Cowboys, Bryant was one of the league's top receivers. He had three straight 1,000-yard seasons, with his best statistical campaign being in 2012. Overall, Bryant's All-Pro campaign in 2014 (1,320 yards, 16 touchdowns) arguably sits atop his best showings. Like many other former players, Bryant has resorted to giving his thoughts on the NFL on social media. In a recent post, he extended an olive branch to a wideout he feels can still take their game to a new level. Photo by/Getty Images Ahead of the 2025 season, Bryant took to X (formerly Twitter) to extend an offer to Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf. He feels that if he can spend some time with him, he could help him further reach his full potential. "I want to work with DK has another level to him that I want to see him unlock...," Bryant wrote on X. I want to work with DK has another level to him that I want to see him unlock… — Dez Bryant (@DezBryant) August 14, 2025 Since being drafted in the second round in the 2019 draft, Metcalf has emerged as one of the league's top receivers. He's never finished a season with less than 900 yards, and has reached double-digit touchdowns on two separate occasions. Metcalf is coming off a 2024 campaign where he totaled 992 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games for the Seattle Seahawks. Also read: NFL Analyst Sounds Off on Dak Prescott's Bold Cowboys Prediction After spending the first six years of his career with the Seahawks, Metcalf is gearing up for a new chapter of his career. In the offseason, Seattle opted to trade him to the Steelers. With this change of scenery, Metcalf has a chance to be one of the league's top receivers in 2025. Among Pittsburgh's other notable moves was signing quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Now catching passes from the four-time MVP, Metcalf could be in store for a career year. As a big receiver who was also a high-end athlete, Bryant is someone who could pass along some wisdom to a player like Metcalf. Only time will tell if the Steelers wideout decides to take him up on his offer. For more Dallas Cowboys and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.
