J-K: Special Police Officer arrested for drug peddling in Udhampur, heroin recovered
Udhampur (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 4 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Police has arrested a Special Police Officer (SPO) posted at District Police Lines (DPL) Udhampur for drug peddling after heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession during a police checking operation, said officials. SPO was arrested from the Phangyal area of Udhampur town on Wednesday. According to an official release, a team from Police Station Udhampur led by the Station House Officer (SHO) was on patrolling and checking duty near Phangyal when they intercepted a suspicious person. On noticing the police party, the individual attempted to flee but was apprehended promptly. Upon frisking, the person was identified as Vishal Singh, an SPO posted at DPL Udhampur and a resident of Shakti Nagar, Udhampur. Police recovered 5.64 grams of heroin-like contraband substance from his possession. A case has been registered under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Udhampur. Further investigation into the matter is underway. Earlier on June 2, in a decisive action against subversive and criminal elements inimical to the security and integrity of the nation, Srinagar Police have booked five terror associates of proscribed terror outfits involved in subversive activities under the Public Safety Act (PSA). According to officials, the arrested individuals have been identified as Nayeem Ahmad Khan, resident of Gamandar Panthachowk in Srinagar, Faizan Akhter Bhat alias Faizan, resident of Gousia Colony, Mehraj Ud Din Bhat, resident of Pandach in 90 FT Road, Umar Hamid Sheikh, resident of Assar Colony in Hazratbal Srinagar, and Suhaib Shafi Baba alias Chamna, resident of Diwat Walipora, Rainawari Srinagar. These accused persons have been booked after obtaining formal detention orders based on dossiers prepared against them by the Srinagar Police. Consequently, they have been detained and subsequently lodged in the district jails of Kathua, Udhampur, and Kot Balwal in Jammu. It is pertinent to mention that many criminal cases have been registered against these individuals. Despite this, they did not mend their ways. After getting bailed out from the courts, they were brazenly involved in criminal and subversive activities prejudicial to the interests of the Nation. Pertinently, J-K Police has been systemically targeting and dismantling such anti-national infrastructure in Srinagar city, with a relentless crackdown on such elements. (ANI)

In its ongoing efforts to combat the terrorist ecosystem, the Srinagar Police is actively targeting associates of proscribed terrorist outfits as part of investigations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The police are conducting intensified searches across multiple locations in the city to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure in the district. To date, searches have been conducted at the residences of several terrorist associates to target the support systems for terrorist activity. Recently, the Srinagar Police conducted searches at the residences of the following individuals: 1. Noor Mohammad Sheikh, son of the late Gh Mohammad, resident of Kanimazar, involved in case FIR No. 156/2023 under sections 7/25 of the Arms Act, and sections 13 and 23 of the UAPA. 2. Waseem Tariq Matta, son of Tariq Ahmad, resident of Rampora, involved in case FIR No. 46/2023 under sections 7/25 of the Arms Act, and sections 4/5 of the Explosive Act, and sections 18, 23, and 38 of the UAPA at Police Station Chanpora. 3. Anjum Younis, daughter of Mohammad Younis, resident of Kenihama, involved in case FIR No. 27/21 under sections 302, 392, 7/27 of the Arms Act, and sections 13, 16, 18, and 20 of the UAPA at Police Station Nowgam. 4. Bilal Ahmad Lone, son of Ab Rehman, resident of Syedpora Eidgah, involved in case FIR No. 51/021 under sections 302, 147, 148, 149, and section 13 of the UAPA at Police Station Safakadal. 5. Faizyab Showkat Dewani, son of Showkat Ahmad, resident of Pater Masjid Zainkadal, involved in case FIR No. 35/2022 under sections 505, 153-A, and 153-B of the IPC, and sections of the UAPA at Police Station M.R. Gunj Sgr. 6. Bilal Lone (alias Choonin), son of Ab Rahman Lone, resident of Saidpora Eidgah, involved in case FIR No. 51/2021 under sections 302, 147, 148, 149, and 341 of the RPC, and case FIR No. 130/16 under sections 147, 148, 336, and 152 of the RPC at Police Station Safakadal. 7. Manzoor Tola (released militant), son of Asadullah Tola, resident of KhaneSokta, involved in case FIR No. 156/2023 under sections 13 and 19 of the UAPA at Police Station Safakadal. 8. Mohammad Ayoub Dar, son of Gh Mohammad Dar, resident of Reiteng Khanyar, involved in case FIR No. 31/2024 under sections 7/25 of the Arms Act, and sections 13, 18, 20, and 23 of the UAPA at Police Station Khanyar. 9. Mushtaq Ahmad Bachoon, son of Gh Mohi ud din Bachoon, resident of Kathidarwaza Rainawari, involved in case FIR No. 31/2024 under sections 7/25 of the Arms Act, and sections 13, 18, 20, and 23 of the UAPA at Police Station Khanyar. 10. Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, son of the late Gh Qadir, resident of Trehgam Kupwara/A/P Deviagan Hawal, involved in case FIR No. 31/2024 under sections 7/25 of the Arms Act, and sections 13, 18, 20, and 23 of the UAPA at Police Station Khanyar. 11. Firdous Ahmad Dar, son of Gh Mohd Dar, resident of Ibrahim Colony, involved in case FIR No. 46/2023 under sections 7/25 of the Arms Act, and sections 4/5 of the Explosive Act, and sections 13, 23, and 38 of the UAPA at Police Station Chanpora. These searches were conducted in accordance with legal procedures, in the presence of Executive Magistrates and independent witnesses, under the supervision of officers from the J&K Police. The objective of these operations was to seize arms, documents, digital devices, and other evidence to gather intelligence and detect or deter any conspiratorial or terrorist activity against the security of the nation. The decisive actions taken by the J&K Police aim to dismantle the terrorist ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir by identifying and prosecuting individuals engaged in anti-national and criminal activities. The Srinagar Police remains committed to maintaining peace and security in the city. Any individual found to be promoting violence, disruption, or unlawful activities will face strict legal consequences.

Srinagar Police raid eight more homes in crackdown on terror ecosystem, over 150 searched in two weeks
Srinagar, May 12 (UNI) Srinagar Police has intensified its crackdown under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), targeting individuals linked with proscribed outfits. On Monday as part of ongoing investigations into UAPA cases, police teams carried out extensive searches at eight locations across the city, focusing on the residences of suspected terrorist associates. In Srinagar, the police have so far searched the residences of over 150 suspected terrorist associates over the last fortnight. A police statement said the searches were conducted in accordance with proper legal procedures in the presence of Executive Magistrates and independent witnesses under the supervision of the officers of J&K Police. Police said the searches were conducted in the houses of Adil Manzoor Langoo of Zaldagar; Basit Bilal Makaya of DoomKadal; Waseem Tariq Matta of Rampora; Fayaz Ahmad Lone, an ex militant of Kaw Mohalla; Mohammad Ashraf Kaloo of Aabi Gurpora; Qazi Usman of Devi Angan Hawal; Muzaffar Ahmad Magray of Qalamdanpora and Shahbaz Farooq Bhat of Palpora Noorbagh. 'The searches were carried out to seize arms, documents, digital devices etc. with the objective of evidence collection and intelligence gathering to detect and deter any conspiratorial or terrorist activity against the security of the Nation,' police said. This decisive action of J&K Police aims to dismantle the terrorist ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir by identifying and taking legal action against individuals engaged in such anti-national and criminal activities, the statement added. Srinagar Police said it remains committed to safeguarding peace and security in the city. Srinagar Police files case over online provocation, false information
Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], May 9 (ANI): Srinagar Police has initiated legal proceedings against individuals accused of circulating false information and inflammatory content on social media, following recent tensions between India and Pakistan. Taking on X, Srinagar Police stated that it had initiated legal action against online provocation and false information prejudicial to peace and public order.' 'It has come to the attention of credible agencies that certain unidentified individuals, acting in furtherance of a larger enemy design, are systematically disseminating misinformation and inflammatory content on various social media platforms amidst the current rise in tensions between India and Pakistan. Preliminary findings indicate that these posts contain fabricated narratives, distorted facts, and sensitive information about ongoing covert operations within Indian territory. The unauthorised disclosure of such information poses a serious threat to national security and serves the strategic interests of hostile elements. The content being circulated is deliberately crafted to spread confusion, incite fear, and provoke unrest among the public. Initial assessments suggest that the dissemination of such material has already caused concern within sections of the civilian population and holds the potential to disrupt public order,' the Police said. Given the gravity of the situation and its impact on national sovereignty, unity, and security, Srinagar Police has identified the accused, Inayat Hussain Rather Shalina, Pampore, Rather Arif (Wanpora, Anantnag, and Sheikh Umar Farooq from Ichgam, Budgam, the post further added on X. In this connection, case FIR No. 14/2025 under sections 197(1)(d), 353(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered in PS Shergarhi, and investigation has been initiated to apprehend the individuals responsible for these unlawful activities. The general public is urged to remain vigilant and refrain from sharing unverified information on social media. Any suspicious activity or content may be reported to the concerned authorities for prompt action. Srinagar Police says it remains committed to preserving peace and ensuring the security of all residents. Any individual found promoting violence, disruption, or unlawful activities will face stringent legal consequences following the law.(ANI)

J-K: Authorities to conduct mock drill in Kashmir valley; urges citizens to cooperate
Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], May 6 (ANI): Authorities in Kashmir are set to conduct a Civil Defence Mock Drill on Wdnesday at around 4 pm in the valley, said the official handle of the Srinagar Police on Tuesday while urging the public to cooperate and remain calm during the exercise. The police department stated that this is a practice exercise to test emergency response systems and during the exercise, sirens will be activated at various locations in Kashmir. In a post on X, Srinagar Police wrote, 'Through Directorate of SDRF & Civil Defence Kashmir. Public Advisory: Civil Defence Mock Drill. To enhance the Civil Defence preparedness for emergencies, a Civil Defence Mock Drill will take place on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 4:00 PM. As part of the drill, sirens will be activated at various locations in Kashmir. This is a practice exercise to test our emergency response systems. We kindly request all members of the public to remain calm and not be alarmed. Your cooperation is essential in making this safety initiative a success.' Earlier, Union Home Ministry has asked several states to conduct mock drills on May 7 to enhance Civil Defence effectiveness. The measures to be undertaken include operationalisation of Air Raid Warning Sirens and training of civilians, students, and others on Civil Defence aspects to protect themselves in the event of a hostile attack. According to a letter written to Chief Secretaries, the Union Home Ministry said the exercise aims to assess and enhance the readiness of Civil Defence mechanisms across states and Union Territories. The exercise is planned up to the village level. 'Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to organise Civil Defence Exercise and rehearsal across 244 categorised Civil Defence Districts of the country on May 7, 2025,' the letter said. The primary objectives of the mock drill include assessing the effectiveness of air raid warning systems, operationalisation of hotline, radio communication links with IAF, testing functionality of control rooms and shadow rooms, training of civilians including students on civil defence aspects to protect themselves in the event of hostile attack and provision of crash blackout measures. The objectives also include the provision of early camouflaging of vital installations, to verify the activation and response of Civil Defence Services including warden services, firefighting, rescue operations and depot management, assessing the implementation of crash blackout measures and evaluating the preparedness of evacuation plans and their execution. The Home Ministry had on May 2 written to Chief Secretaries of all states and UTs about civil defence preparedness in the vulnerable areas and districts. Tensions have risen between India and Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed. The government has said that perpetrators of the terror attack will face severe punishment. (ANI)
