Blue-chip CB names Texas in top five schools
Blue-chip CB names Texas in top five schools Texas has eight commitments in its 2026 recruiting class. They have one cornerback in four-star Hayward Howard Jr. who committed earlier this month. The Longhorns are also heavily in play for another cornerback in four-star Justice Fitzpatrick as he named them in his top five schools this week. Fitzpatrick plays at powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and has 43 total offers. He's the nation's No. 62 overall player and the No. 7 cornerback per On3's industry rankings. They have him as the No. 11 prospect in the state of Florida as well. It was a very productive junior campaign for Fitzpatrick in 2024. He racked up 34 tackles, two interceptions, and seven pass breakups as he aided St. Thomas Aquinas when the Florida 5A state championship. He also received Junior All-American honors from MaxPreps. Fitzpatrick hasn't spent a lot time in Austin with just an unofficial visit taken this April. However, he has an official visit locked in for June 13, which gives the Longhorns and opportunity to separate themselves from the pack. St. Thomas Aquinas' Finch and Campbell are the Broward Lacrosse Players of the Year
St. Thomas Aquinas stuffed its lacrosse trophy case once again in 2024 and now the Raiders have some individual awards to add to it, too. James Finch and Jordan Palmer are the Miami Herald's Broward County Lacrosse Players of the Year. Finch, a junior, is the Herald's Boys' Lacrosse Player of the Year for the third straight year after helping the Raiders win their fourth state title. The attack scored 76 goals and added 76 assists as the engine of one of the top teams in the state. Finch also had 34 ground balls and seven takeaways for St. Thomas Aquinas, which won yet another state championship with a well-rounded style of play. 'It was the greatest feeling ever, I was bawling my eyes out,' Finch said. 'It was always the talk I heard from the 2022 team, how good it was to win state. Their grit, their determination. That's the team we wanted to model ourselves around.' Finch is already orally committed to Ohio State and is closing in on 200 goals in his career, topping 50 in each of his first three seasons in Fort Lauderdale. Most importantly, he now has a championship on his resume after narrowly missing out in each of his first two seasons of high school. Palmer, the Herald's Girls' Lacrosse Player of the Year, was one of the most well-rounded players in the county and helped the Raiders come just one goal short of a trip to the final four. The midfielder had 69 goals, eight assists, 30 ground balls, 12 caused turnovers and 53 draw controls this season to wrap up her career at St. Thomas Aquinas. The Raiders reached the Region 4-2A championship, but came up just one goal short against Vero Beach. The senior was especially dominant in the postseason, scoring 13 goals in the region playoffs, including two in the season-ending loss to the Indians. Palmer scored 14 hat tricks, including at least four goals in five of her last six games in high school and seven in a thrilling shootout win against Bradenton Manatee—another region finalist—in March. Palmer is heading to UCF in the fall and will keep playing lacrosse as a club sport there. 'We did so well and played for each other the whole season,' Palmer said. 'We won a lot of really close games and games we haven't won in the past. Overall, it was amazing.'

St. Thomas Aquinas' Chase Carroll is the Broward Boys' Scholar-Athlete of the Year
As usual, there was no shortage of great athletes this past school year at St. Thomas Aquinas. But few maintained the balance of success in the classroom and on the field like senior Chase Carroll did. Carroll, a standout on the boys' soccer team, helped the Raiders continue to keep their place among Broward's best while excelling academically. He led St. Thomas Aquinas to the regional finals in Class 6A, which was the best finish in that class among Broward schools while maintaining a 5.4 GPA and earning the chance to attend MIT. As such, Carroll is the Miami Herald's Boys' Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Broward County. Carroll, a forward, was a versatile contributor on an Aquinas squad, which came up one win short of returning to state for the second time in three seasons. Carroll scored 11 goals and had 12 assists, helping him earn first team All-Broward honors in soccer. But off the field, Carroll was even more impressive. In addition to his GPA, Carroll scored a 1580 on his SAT and a 34 on the ACT, and took multiple dual enrollment college and advanced placement courses. During his high school years, Carroll became a member of several National Honor Societies, made the Principal's Honor roll and was a National Merit Finalist. Carroll also received the Veritas Scholarship Award, Rensselaer Medal Award, AP Scholar with Distinction, National African American Recognition Award and National Hispanic Recognition Award. When he wasn't studying or playing soccer, Carroll was volunteering in the community. He served as a junior firefighter with City of Miami Fire Rescue and was a board member and website manager at the Fort Lauderdale International Book Fair.
