PS5 State Of Play: Everything announced from Nioh 3 to Pragmata

Sony's State Of Play may have lacked first-party games but there were plenty of surprises, between a new Lumines and a remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics. While State Of Play presentations are usually headlined by a first-party title from Sony, the company's latest showcase took a different approach. Some titles from PlayStation Studios got a mention, between a brief look at Ghost of Yōtei and new levels in Astro Bot, but the big closing moment belonged to Sony's collaboration with Guilty Gear creators Arc System Works on a new Marvel fighting game. While it is technically a PlayStation Studios production, it's not exactly the new God Of War spin-off some expected. Elsewhere, the other big reveal was perhaps the new James Bond game from Hitman developer IO Interactive, with a youthful, fresh-faced 007. It may have lacked a surprise from one of Sony's big names, but the rest of the presentation was filled with some pretty great announcements. You can check out a rundown of the highlights below. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. The creators behind Tetris Effect and Rez Infinite opened the show with another entry in the Lumines puzzle game series, titled Lumines Arise. The game is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 and PC in autumn 2025, with optional PSVR2 and PC VR support. A free single-player and multiplayer demo is planned for the summer. This is the first entry in the series since 2018's Lumines Remastered, which was also developed by Enhance Games. Capcom's sci-fi action title was originally unveiled back in 2020, but it was delayed indefinitely in 2023. Two years later, however, and it's reappeared in pretty promising shape. The gameplay looks somewhere between Vanquish and Astral Chain, with a promised 'two-in-one twist of action and strategy' as a young girl named Dianna sits on your back and throws out assist attacks during battles. It's set to be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2026. Japanese developer Goichi Suda, aka Suda51, revealed his new 'ultra-violent science-fiction' game, Romeo Is A Dead Man. The opening of the trailer sports a cel-shaded comic book style, but the gameplay appears to be more visually grounded, albeit with the bloody spectacle you'd expect from the creator of No More Heroes. You play as Romeo Stargazer, an FBI investigator who hunts wanted criminals across space. The game is set to launch in 2026 on PlayStation 5. Konami's next mainline instalment in the Silent Hill franchise, Silent Hill f, received a creepy new trailer, which showed off some of the spectacularly messed up monster designs. The trailer also confirmed a September 25, 2025 release date across PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. It might be just before the Halloween season, but this looks set to haunt you for weeks. This long-rumoured remaster was finally revealed, with the name of Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles. This is a remaster of the original PlayStation game from 1997, which wasn't released in Europe until the 2007 PSP port, The War Of The Lions. This includes the original game with the War Of The Lions translation, along with a new enhanced version with fully voiced dialogue, a renewed interface, and other improvements. It's set to be released on September 30, 2025 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The Bloodstained saga continues with this new 2.5D side-scrolling action role-player, which is set in the same world as Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night. The new Ethereal Castle map is described as being the largest yet, and the gameplay hinges around swapping between the two protagonists, Alex and Leo. While you directly control one, the other assists in combat, and you can switch between the two at the press of a button. Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement is set to launch in 2026 on PlayStation 5. Digital Eclipse, the studio known for retro gaming compilations like Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration, are back with a new Mortal Kombat retrospective. The collection boasts over 20 different playable versions of the classic games, across arcade, console, and handheld entries. A bunch of these titles come with modern enhancements too, including online play with rollback netcode. It's set to be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, Switch, and PC in 2025. One of the only VR games at the showcase was Thief VR: Legacy Of Shadow, which is set to launch across PSVR2, PC VR, and Meta Quest next year. This is the first Thief game in over a decade, and it comes with a new protagonist called Magpie, who is described a 'cunning thief orphaned by Northcrest's brutality and shaped by the streets'. It's being developed by Vertigo Games and Maze Theory, in collaboration with Eidos-Montreal. Five years after the last instalment, Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja officially announced Nioh 3 and there's a limited time demo available right now until June 18 on PlayStation 5. More Trending This sequel, which is slated for next year, features two combat styles between Samurai and Ninja. The former is similar to the Nioh combat seen in past games, while the Ninja style serves up quick movements, aerial actions, Ninjitsu techniques, and other abilities. While these were the main highlights, there were several other smaller announcements, with new trailers for Sea Of Thieves-like Sea Remnants, Tides Of Tomorrow from the creators of Road 96, and Sword Of The Sea from the team behind The Pathless. There were release dates for several indie titles too, with Baby Steps slated for September 8, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound arriving on July 31, and survival climber Cairn planned for November 5, with a demo available now. As for Ghost of Yōtei, Sony announced it will offer a gameplay deep dive on the sequel in July, ahead of its launch on October 2, 2025. Email gamecentral@ leave a comment below, follow us on Twitter. 007 First Light trailer revealed and fans are convinced this actor is James Bond

Hitman developer IO Interactive has debuted the first trailer for 007 First Light, with a very youthful James Bond. After the game's title was announced earlier this week, developer IO Interactive has unveiled the first trailer for its upcoming James Bond game 007 First Light. The trailer, which was showcased during Sony's State Of Play, debuted a new 26-year-old version of the character, originally created by Ian Fleming. While a young James Bond was perhaps always going to look odd, his plain appearance more echoes a Fortnite skin than a British spy (even though he does have the original scar on his cheek). The actor playing James Bond is yet to be confirmed, but many fans have highlighted the similarities to The OA and Dexter: Original Sin actor Patrick Gibson. Lennie James, who is known for playing Morgan in The Walking Dead, also appears to be playing a new character called John Greenway, who is described as Bond's mentor. As noted in a PlayStation blog post, you'll encounter new versions of classic Bond characters M, Q, and Moneypenny in the game too, some of which pop up in the trailer. 007 First Light is described as an origin story for James Bond, who starts out as a Royal Navy air crewman before he's propelled into MI6 training following 'an audacious act of bravery', according to the blog post. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. The game features an original standalone story, which was developed in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios. Developer IO Interactive has said in the past how it hopes to expand the story into a trilogy. More Trending Gameplay wise, the combat looks very reminiscent of IO Interactive's work on Hitman, but it also boasts driving sections and gadgets to mess around with, including a laser watch. It also promises to span a variety of locationsaround the world, with the trailer showing island resorts and nightclubs. Unless I'm mistaken, our new game Bond is being played by Patrick Irish Bond in the bag, can't argue with that! Also… the scar down the cheek from the books, FINALLY!!!#007FirstLight — Aaron McGahon (@AarontYouGreat) June 4, 2025 The production itself looks impressive, and the developer certainly has a strong history with stealth action games, but it remains to be seen if this young version of Bond will stick the landing. 007 First Light is set to launch in 2026 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. More about the game is set to be revealed at the IOI Showcase on Friday, June 7 at 2am BST. Email gamecentral@ leave a comment below, follow us on Twitter. Everything Announced at PlayStation State of Play in June

On Wednesday, Sony's State of Play online event showcased plenty of trailers of upcoming games launching later in 2025 and into 2026. The preview, lasted less than an hour, showcased new and previously-announced PS5 titles as well as a new controller. The last State of Play was in February and featured previews of games including Sonic Racing: Crossworlds, Lies of P: Overture and Saros, from the studio behind Returnal. This time, Sony released a few teasers for many of its most-hyped games, including Ghost of Yōtei, Silent Hill F, Pragmata, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a remaster of the original Final Fantasy Tactics and even more levels from last year's fan-favorite hit Astro Bot. The trailer fest also included a reveal of a new official Sony fighting stick, which Sony has given the codename Project Defiant (a final name is forthcoming). While it doesn't have a release date or price, the company noted that it will have wired or "ultra-low latency" wireless connectivity, a durable design and a sling carry case included for easy transport. How to watch Sony State of Play State of Play streamed live on YouTube and Twitch starting at 2 p.m. PT (5 p.m. ET). 007 First Light We got our first look at the new James Bond game from Amazon MGM Studios, 007 First Light. From the trailer, it's clear that the game will cover the origins of the super-spy set in what seems like the groovy 1960s. Bond is young, eager and getting his start at MI6, with missions that will take him around the world. 007 First Light is coming in 2026. Ghost of Yotei The spiritual sequel to Ghost of Tsushima had a trailer that showed more vibes than gameplay, pretty much just teeing up a gameplay reveal stream coming in July. Ah well. Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls Ignore that word salad title -- this is a heretofore unlooked-for Marvel fighting game from Arc System Works, famed for the Guilty Gear and BlazBlue series as well as Dragon Ball FighterZ. While a little more grounded than Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 (where are my super jumps?), Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls will have 4v4 tag team battles, promising tight gameplay and fun new costumes for Marvel heroes. It's coming to PS5 and PC in 2026. Lumines Arise A new game in the Lumines universe is coming from the creators of Tetris Effect: Connected, and you can see the impact with synesthetic combination of music and visuals working together. Lumines Arise comes out Fall 2025 for PS5. Pragmata Our second big trailer for Pragmata, Capcom's next single-player adventure, shows even more of the relationship between the astrogear-wearing protagonist and the robot (looking like a small girl) with more capability than she seems. Pragmata comes out in 2026. Romeo is a Dead Man Romeo Is A Dead Man, a new game from Grasshopper Manufacture, was created by noted game developer Suda51 (Killer7). The trailer opened with a bloody protagonist origin transitioning into gameplay of him, newly reborn, slashing and shooting his way through hordes of dead demon-like things. This game -- and whatever panoply of styles and oddball features suitable for Suda51 -- is coming in 2026. Silent Hill f Another trailer for the next Silent Hill game set in 1960s Japan, this game interspersed cutscenes with some gameplay of main character Hinako, a schooolgirl, fighting horrific mannequin-like monsters in schools and shrines across a mist-covered town. The game comes out on September 25, 2025. Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement The next game in the Bloodstained series of Castlevania-likes is another side-scrolling grim action game, which is coming out in 2026. Digimon Story: Time Stranger A new Digimon game from Bandai Namco, Digimon Story: Time Stranger is a story-rich RPG with a cel-shaded anime style set in a Japan invaded by monsters. The game comes out October 3, 2025. Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles A remaster of the Final Fantasy Tactics classic, the game has two versions: the original game and the enhanced version with fully-voiced dialogue, improved graphics and more. Launching on PS5 and PS4 September 30, 2025. Baby Steps Described by one CNET colleague as "open world QWOP," Baby Steps looks to be a surrealist adventure of a character with one goal: make it to the bathroom. It looks like a zany idea brought to life in Garry's Mod (and I meant that as a compliment). Baby steps comes out September 8, 2025. Hirogami Hirogami is a beautiful-looking platformer starring protagonist Hiro, a master of origami folding themself into different forms to traverse the locations. It's got a unique animation look where your character moves "on the 2's", or with half the framerate to give it the stylized look of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. Hirogami is out September 3, 2025. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound From the makers of the Blasphemous games comes the next side-scrolling action entry in the Ninja Gaiden series, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, featuring two heroes from rival clans who must team up to defeat evil. It's out July 31 on PS5 and PS4. Cairn The upcoming climbing game Cairn got another trailer ahead of its release later this year. In Cairn, you climb using natural handholds, but it's more than just the ascent -- main character Aava has her own personal journey to make in her ascents. Cairn comes out for PC and PS5 on November 5, 2025. Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection Over 20 different versions of the original Mortal Kombat games are coming to PS5 and PS4 later in 2025. Retro game restorers Digital Eclipse have bundled the first four Mortal Kombat games (as well as Mortal Kombat 3 Ultimate) and more into the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, which will also let you challenge players online. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Another trailer for the remake of the third Metal Gear Solid game, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, showed off more bosses and, curiously, a crossover with Ape Escape (capture the ape and get a robo-ape mecha to deploy?). Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is out August 28, 2025. Nioh 3 Nioh 3 is coming next year. The reveal trailer for the next entry in the samurai demon-killing game showed off its open world design and a new ninja playstyle to add to its armored samurai fighting. The game has a PS5 demo out today and will be released in early 2026. Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow A new game in the storied Thief franchise, Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow, is a PSVR 2-only game that follows in its predecessors' medieval stealth adventure footsteps -- except this time, of course, players get a virtual reality hands-on perspective. Made by Vertigo Games, creators of Metro Awakening and Arizona Sunshine, Thief VR is coming later in 2025. Tides of Tomorrow An oceanborne post-apocalypse game that looks like Waterworld by way of the wildly vibrant Sunset Overdrive, Tides of Tomorrow has another feature that could distinguish it from the crowd: a multiplayer story. Though its exact processes are hard to tell from the trailer, players can follow their friend or favorite streamer to see how their choices shape the collective story of the game. Tides of Tomorrow comes out next year on February 24, 2026. Sea of Remnants Have you ever wanted to sail the seas as a puppet? Sea of Remnants seems like an even more colorful and zany single-player Sea of Thieves with some interesting color and ocombat mechanics. The trailer showed off dragons and massive floating crab bosses whose shells are coated in gold. Also what looks like mermaid bosses? Sea of Remnants is coming in 2026. Sword of the Sea Yes, Sony debuted a third sea-themed game at State of Play -- or rather, one mixing seas and deserts from game-makers versed in both. Sword of the Sea is a new indie adventure game from Giant Squid, creators of the iconic games Journey, Abzu and The Pathless. And yes, we're getting another soundtrack from Austin Wintory. Sword of the Sea comes to PS5 and PlayStation Plus on August 19, 2025.

PS5 exclusive Marvel fighting game coming from Guilty Gear creators

Sony's big State Of Play surprise was Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, a new superhero fighting game from Arc System Works. While rumours were rampant about a new God Of War spin-off and a reveal for Resident Evil 9, Sony closed its State Of Play presentation with something completely unexpected. Developed by Guilty Gear and Dragon Ball FighterZ creators Arc System Works, in collaboration with Marvel Games and PlayStation Studios, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a 4v4 tag team fighter which puts a distinctly Japanese spin on its famed superheroes. As seen in the trailer, confirmed characters so far include Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, Storm, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, and Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes), all with pretty incredible anime-inspired designs. While past Marvel fighting games like Marvel Vs. Capcom have sported 3v3 match-ups, the unique hook here is the jump to 4v4. However, as noted in a Marvel blog post about the game, this apparently doesn't mean you'll have to master four characters to have a fighting chance, with the system promising to be flexible to your playstyle. Michael Francisco, senior product development manager at Marvel Games, said: 'Learning four characters is extremely daunting, but the team at Arc System Works has found a way to design a system that adapts to your playstyle. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. 'So you could either duke it out as just the leader and three assists, or you can tag in your assist to swap the leader and change the match-up on the fly.' How this works in practice remains to be seen, but it certainly looks impressive, with all the flashy animation and anime stylings developer Arc System Works is known for. More Trending It was stated that more characters will be added later (c'mon Squirrel Girl!) and revealed in the 'coming months' but whether they'd be part of the starting line-up or something available only as DLC remains to be seen. Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls ('tōkon' translates to 'fighting spirit' or basically someone that's good at fighting) is set to be released on PlayStation 5 and PC in 2026. Normally Sony doesn't release console exclusives on PC straight away, but whether this is the start of a new policy, or just a reflection that it's not made by an internal studio, is unclear. Elsewhere in the State Of Play, Sony announced its very first fight stick for PlayStation 5 and PC called Project Defiant, which is set to launch sometime in 2026.
