Madonna's Decades-Old Single Debuts On Several Charts At Once

Madonna has been teasing the next chapter of her music career recently. She has stated publicly that she's working on a project tentatively titled, at least according to her own statements, Confessions 2. Though that likely won't be the actual name of an album, she's back at work on a collection that will surely dance-pop tunes alongside Stuart Price, who helmed the original Confessions on a Dance Floor. As the world waits to hear what Madonna has been cooking up in the studio, one of her oldest singles becomes a hit once more. 'Live to Tell' debuts on a pair of charts in the United Kingdom this week. The track, which is nearing its fortieth birthday, opens at No. 50 on the Official Singles Downloads chart, right in the middle of the list of the most-downloaded tunes throughout the country. The same cut opens just a few spaces below that spot on the Official Singles Sales list, where competition is just slightly more intense. On that tally, which includes purchases of individual songs via any medium, including vinyl, CD, and cassette, as well as downloads, 'Live to Tell' opens at No. 52. While 'Live to Tell' is decades old, both the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads charts did not exist when the tune was new. That's not to say that it wasn't a hit, however. The track opened her third full-length, True Blue, and it was released in the spring of 1986. 'Live to Tell' rose all the way to No. 2 on the Official Singles chart in the United Kingdom. It launched at No. 10 and spent a handful of frames inside that loftiest tier before falling away. It has not been seen on a U.K. ranking since then, so this comeback and debut is especially notable. 'Live to Tell' is reaching new audiences via TikTok as it goes viral, thanks to a trend that sees people remembering the tune and sharing how it has impacted them. Only people of a certain age have the connection to the Madonna cut, but it seems that even younger users are getting in on the fun. As 'Live to Tell' debuts, another one of Madonna's earlier smashes, 'Like a Prayer,' is still a hit in the U.K. This time around, it rises from No. 98 to No. 79 on the Official Singles Downloads chart. It also reenters the Official Singles Sales list at No. 84.

Madonna to rerelease ‘Bedtime Stories' 30 years after multiplatinum album hit the charts

NEW YORK — Madonna is getting ready to rerelease her sixth studio album, 'Bedtime Stories,' three decades after the multiplatinum project first hit the charts. 'Bedtime Stories Re-release and Vinyl coming soon,' the Queen of Pop wrote on Instagram Monday, as the caption of a video of herself whirling around what appears to be her Upper East Side townhouse to the sound of the album's third single, the Björk-co-written 'Bedtime Story.' In classic Madonna style, the 66-year-old pop superstar hinted at suggestive poses while wearing a Burberry trench coat over a pink slip dress, fishnet gloves, thigh-high sheer tights and stilettos. Originally released in October 1994, 'Bedtime Stories' followed the sexually charged 'Erotica,' showing a more romantic side of the often-controversial star. The album's second single, the sugary pop ballad 'Take a Bow,' spent seven weeks atop the U.S. Hot 100 chart, while 'Bedtime Stories' became a top-five album in countries around the world, including the U.K., France and Canada. In the U.S., the heavily R&B-influenced album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified triple-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Monday's announcement comes just days after the Grammy-winning superstar stunned fans with news that she was working with frequent collaborator Stuart Price on a sequel to her No. 1 album 'Confessions on a Dance Floor,' released in 2005. 'My Valentine's Day gift to all my fans is to let you know I'm putting my heart and soul into my new music and I can't wait to share it with you!!' she wrote on Instagram. The pop diva recently celebrated her 40-year career with a massive world tour, which kicked off in London in October 2023 just months after she was rushed to a hospital in New York City, where she spent several days in intensive care to be treated for a reported 'serious bacterial infection.' The critically acclaimed Celebration Tour wrapped up seven months later with a record-breaking finale in front of 1.6 million fans on Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana Beach.

Madonna teases new music as potential sequel to ‘Confessions on a Dance Floor'

NEW YORK — Madonna has given fans an early Valentine's Day treat. The 66-year-old pop superstar announced Thursday that new music is underway with collaborator Stuart Price — the same producer behind her beloved 'Confessions on a Dance Floor' opus from 20 years ago. 'My Valentine's Day gift to all my fans is to let you know I'm putting my heart and soul into my new music and I can't wait to share it with you!!' she captioned a series of snaps on Instagram. She also once again teased that the project is a 'Confessions Part 2,' a sequel to the 2005 Grammy-winning album that spawned international hits like 'Hung Up' and 'Sorry.' Madonna first revealed her reunion with Price late last year. 'Working on new music with Stuart Price. These past few months has been medicine for my SOUL,' she wrote on Instagram Dec. 16. 'I'm so excited to share it with you. Who wants to hear new music in 2025!' No release date for the new project was given. Madonna's last full-length album, 'Madame X,' reached No. 1 in the United States following its release in 2019.

Madonna reveals new music is ''Confessions' Part 2,' teases potential sequel to 'Confessions on a Dancefloor'

Madonna is hung up on releasing new music, as the pop icon just made a surprising reveal that her upcoming album could be a sequel to her global 2005 smash Confessions on a Dancefloor. The legendary recording artist announced Thursday that she has a special holiday treat for fans upon premiering a series of new images of herself in a recording studio with her Confessions collaborator, music producer Stuart Price. "My Valentine's Day gift to all my fans is to let you know I'm putting my heart and soul into my new music and I can't wait to share it with you!!" Madonna wrote in the post's caption, before cryptically teasing that the new material is "Confessions Part 2." Related: Madonna teases new music for 2025 with Confessions on a Dance Floor collaborator Stuart Price Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for Madonna for more information. In December, Madonna confirmed that new music would release in 2025, and also unveiled that she was back in the studio with Price. "These past few months has been medicine for my SOUL," Madonna wrote at the time. "Songwriting and making music is the one area where I don't need to ask anyone for their permission. I'm so excited to share it with you. Who wants to hear new music in 2025?" In addition to his work on Confessions, which turns 20 in November 2025, Price also recently served as the musical director on Madonna's Celebration tour, a retrospective international concert series that kicked off in 2023 before concluding in May 2024 with a free set on Brazil's Copacabana Beach that drew a record 1.6 million fans to watch her perform. Outside of working on her new solo material, Madonna also joined The Weeknd and Playboi Carti for the 2023 The Idol soundtrack tune "Popular," which recently crossed 1 billion streams on Spotify and reached No. 43 on the Billboard Hot 100 — Madonna's highest-charting single since "Give Me All Your Luvin'" hit No. 10 in last full-length album, Madame X, reached No. 1 in the United States in 2019. It was preceded by 2015's Rebel Heart, 2012's MDNA, and 2008's Hard Candy — all of which followed the success of Confessions. The 66-year-old also recently developed a self-directed biopic about her life, which she co-wrote an initial draft of with Juno's Diablo Cody, and later finished with Erin Cressida Wilson. She later said in November 2024 that she might adapt the project into a TV series instead. Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly
