Summah Richards, aged 12, tragically died in Laidley, Queensland, after she fell in front of a car while riding an e-scooter and tributes have been paid to a "remarkable young girl" A 12-year-old girl 'whose bright energy was boundless' has tragically died in an e-scooter crash with a car. Summah Richards is understood to have fallen into the path of a car in the town of Laidley, Queensland around 3pm last Saturday. Police are now investigating the tragedy and it said the incident happened on Vaux Street with the e-scooter appearing to fall into the path of a grey Holden Barina. ‌ Emergency services rushed to the scene but despite the best efforts of paramedics Summah was declared dead at the scene. Stacey Ardrey, the best friend of Summah's mother Teigan, has remembered Summah as 'a remarkable young girl with such a vibrant spirit'. 'Summah was the kind of soul who could light up any room simply by being in it,' she said in a fundraiser for the family. Her playful nature was contagious, always ready to laugh, and bring joy to those around her. 'Whether she was popping up from behind a corner which she did often and with a mischievous grin or throwing herself into an adventure with pure excitement, Summah's bright energy was boundless.' The youngster was only in the first year of high school but had ambitions of being a nurse one day. 'Her love wasn't just seen, it was felt. With her big brown eyes, full of wonder and kindness, she made everyone feel special,' continued Stacey on the GoFundMe page. 'She had a heart that cared deeply, always looking out for others with a tenderness beyond her years. Summah's ability to show love so freely and authentically left a lasting impact on all who were lucky enough to know her. "Her infectious smile and the warmth of her spirit will forever be remembered—she will always be the playful, loving soul who brought light into every room. ‌ "Summah sweet angel, you will forever be remembered and felt in our hearts. Your wild sense of humour will be missed but never forgotten. A mother's love will never end." The statement from Queensland Police on the tragedy read: "The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating after a 12-year-old girl died following a vehicle and e-scooter crash in Laidley this afternoon, April 19. "Initial investigations indicate that both vehicles were travelling south on Vaux Street and around 3pm the rider of the scooter has fallen into the path of a grey Holden Barina on Vaux Street. The rider of the scooter, a 12-year-old Laidley girl, was declared deceased at the scene. "The driver and passenger of the vehicle were not physically injured. The Forensic Crash Unit are investigating the circumstances of the incident and are appealing for anyone with relevant dashcam/CCTV footage to come forward. Investigations are ongoing."

Inquiries are continuing into how a schoolgirl lost control of her e-scooter and was tragically killed during the Easter long weekend. Initial reports suggested Summah Richards, 12, was walking her scooter along a road in Laidley, west of Brisbane before she was struck by a car about 3pm on Saturday. Investigations have since indicated she was riding the scooter when she fell into the path of a Holden Barina heading in the same direction. Summah died at the scene, despite the efforts of emergency responders to revive her. The driver and passenger in the grey hatchback were uninjured. An investigations into the tragedy is still in its early stages. 'To lose a young person like that to a fatal traffic crash is really tragic and my heart goes out to the family and the friends of that young person who has been taken away from the family much too early,' Road Policing and Regional Support Command Acting Chief Superintendent Garrath Channells told the ABC. 'It would appear that the child has lost control of the e-scooter … [resulting] in the individual falling off the scooter and coming to the ground in front of a moving vehicle, which has collided with the child. 'Our specialist investigative unit from the forensic crash unit will work through the full investigation, but at this early date that is what appears to have occurred.' Summah's death has rocked the local community who have rallied behind her devastated parents and brothers. She had just started high school and been remembered as a remarkable young girl with a vibrant spirit. 'Summah was out in the world living her best life doing what children do,' family friend Stacey Ardrey wrote. 'Summah was the kind of soul who could light up any room simply by being in it. Her playful nature was contagious, always ready to laugh, and bring joy to those around her,' she wrote in a tribute online. 'Whether she was popping up from behind a corner which she did often and with a mischievous grin or throwing herself into an adventure with pure excitement, Summah's bright energy was boundless.' 'Her love wasn't just seen, it was felt. With her big brown eyes, full of wonder and kindness, she made everyone feel special. 'She had a heart that cared deeply, always looking out for others with a tenderness beyond her years. 'Summah's ability to show love so freely and authentically left a lasting impact on all who were lucky enough to know her.' The community has raised nearly $15,000 on GoFundMe. Flowers and toys were seen left in a touching memorial near to the crash site over the weekend. One note, left by a friend, accompanied flowers and a packet of Summah's favourite gum read: 'in memory of you, missed 4ever by all your friends and family'.

A Queensland high school student killed in a e-scooter crash in a rural town is being remembered as a caring young girl whose smile would light up a room. Twelve-year-old Summah Richards was riding an e-scooter in Laidley, west of Brisbane, when she died in a collision with a car at about 3pm on Saturday. Queensland Police said initial investigations suggested Summah was riding southbound on Vaux Street when she fell into the path of a grey Holden Barina travelling in the same direction. Authorities said Summah died at the scene. The driver and passenger of the other vehicle were not injured. Summah is being remembered as a mature girl with a caring nature and big dreams. ( Supplied ) Family friend Stacey Ardrey said the 12-year-old, who had just started high school this year, had such a "bubbly" personality and cared deeply about her community. "She just had this really cheeky grin that anytime you looked at her, she was always smiling," Ms Ardley said. "It was always that same grin. "It's going to be very much missed — she's leaving behind a very big gap in her family and community and in anyone's life she touched." The community is pouring out support for Summah's family ( Supplied ) Community support Ms Ardley said Summah always looked out for others, including her young children, and hoped to become a nurse practitioner not only to help people but also because she believed it would "bring her in the big dollars". "Words can't really describe the warmth this child radiated," she said. "I'm a helicopter mum myself and just having Summah interacting with my children, you just knew they were safe with her. "She was very mature and bubbly. " She was amazing. " Summah died on Vaux Street on Easter Saturday. ( ABC Southern Qld: Peter Sanders ) Ms Ardley said a GoFundMe campaign she created to help cover the family's ongoing costs had already surpassed its goal for funeral expenses. "It's just been phenomenal seeing how quickly everyone jumped on board," she said. "I'm just hoping to relieve that financial and that mental load of worrying about how everything is going to be paid for. "We've reached the goal and it'll provide Summah a beautiful send-off for her eternal place of rest." One of Summah's friends left a heartfelt note at the memorial near the scene. ( ABC Southern Qld: Peter Sanders ) 'Extremely tragic' Flowers and soft toys have been placed near the crash site in honour of Summah's memory. Road Policing and Regional Support Command Acting Chief Superintendent Garrath Channells said the incident was being investigated. "That's an extremely tragic incident that occurred in Laidley," he said. "To lose a young person like that to a fatal traffic crash is really tragic and my heart goes out to the family and the friends of that young person who has been taken away from the family much too early. "It would appear that the child has lost control of the e-scooter … [resulting] in the individual falling off the scooter and coming to the ground in front of a moving vehicle, which has collided with the child. "That's still under investigation — our specialist investigative unit from the forensic crash unit will work through the full investigation, but at this early date that is what appears to have occurred."
