Tragedy as 12-year-old girl 'with vibrant spirit' dies following horror e-scooter crash
A 12-year-old girl 'whose bright energy was boundless' has tragically died in an e-scooter crash with a car.
Summah Richards is understood to have fallen into the path of a car in the town of Laidley, Queensland around 3pm last Saturday. Police are now investigating the tragedy and it said the incident happened on Vaux Street with the e-scooter appearing to fall into the path of a grey Holden Barina.
Emergency services rushed to the scene but despite the best efforts of paramedics Summah was declared dead at the scene. Stacey Ardrey, the best friend of Summah's mother Teigan, has remembered Summah as 'a remarkable young girl with such a vibrant spirit'.
'Summah was the kind of soul who could light up any room simply by being in it,' she said in a fundraiser for the family. Her playful nature was contagious, always ready to laugh, and bring joy to those around her.
'Whether she was popping up from behind a corner which she did often and with a mischievous grin or throwing herself into an adventure with pure excitement, Summah's bright energy was boundless.'
The youngster was only in the first year of high school but had ambitions of being a nurse one day. 'Her love wasn't just seen, it was felt. With her big brown eyes, full of wonder and kindness, she made everyone feel special,' continued Stacey on the GoFundMe page.
'She had a heart that cared deeply, always looking out for others with a tenderness beyond her years. Summah's ability to show love so freely and authentically left a lasting impact on all who were lucky enough to know her.
"Her infectious smile and the warmth of her spirit will forever be remembered—she will always be the playful, loving soul who brought light into every room.
"Summah sweet angel, you will forever be remembered and felt in our hearts. Your wild sense of humour will be missed but never forgotten. A mother's love will never end."
The statement from Queensland Police on the tragedy read: "The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating after a 12-year-old girl died following a vehicle and e-scooter crash in Laidley this afternoon, April 19.
"Initial investigations indicate that both vehicles were travelling south on Vaux Street and around 3pm the rider of the scooter has fallen into the path of a grey Holden Barina on Vaux Street. The rider of the scooter, a 12-year-old Laidley girl, was declared deceased at the scene.
"The driver and passenger of the vehicle were not physically injured. The Forensic Crash Unit are investigating the circumstances of the incident and are appealing for anyone with relevant dashcam/CCTV footage to come forward. Investigations are ongoing."

Service dog reunited with blind owner two months after being stolen from Chicago backyard
A loyal service dog has been reunited with its owner nearly three months after being stolen from a backyard in Chicago, officials say. Bam Bam, the 14-year-old tan and white Dachshund, was stolen from the yard in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago on June 5, according to a GoFundMe created to help find him. His owner, Angel Santiago, who is legally blind due to glaucoma, spent days walking miles and handing out flyers with the hope of finding his beloved friend and aid. Santiago told police that two unknown people entered through his gate and took the canine. Although he heard the disturbance and even grabbed one of the suspects in an attempt to stop him, the men were able to get away with Bam Bam. He believes the suspect he grabbed sounded like a teenager. Santiago said that he could hear Bam Bam barking as the men ran away with him. 'Let your eyes be mine and look out for Bam Bam for me, please. I beg of you to help me,' he wrote in a desperate plea on the fundraiser. The GoFundMe totalled almost $20,000 as concerned citizens looked to support the cause. A F acebook Page set up for the search effort led several flyer events, petitions, and meetups in the city to help find the dog. On August 12, a post read: 'We are incredibly grateful to be working with an amazing group of volunteers who are organizing walking routes and flyering to reach local residents who may not have heard Angel and Bam Bam's story.| Thankfully, after nearly three months of desperate searching, Bam Bam was found. On Tuesday evening, Chicago police said an unidentified man and woman dropped off a white-and-yellow dachshund mix at the 16th District police station. Police quickly confirmed the animal to be Bam Bam. Santiago, who is both blind and has Type 2 diabetes, rushed to the station to be reunited with Bam Bam, say police. The dog was reportedly in good health when it was recovered, police said. As it stands, no arrests have been made. A team of detectives is continuing to investigate the circumstances of how the dog ended up at the station.

Terrifying moment group of three children are hit by out-of-control car driven by 'P-Plater'
Three schoolgirls miraculously escaped with minor injuries after an out-of-control car crashed into them as they walked home from school. Chilling footage of the crash on Harry Street in Bellbird Park, south-east Brisbane, shows the white Ford Falcon fishtailing around a corner before collecting the three girls, who were hurled into the air. The car then crashed through a fence and into a tree around 3.30pm on August 12. Queensland Police have launched an investigation. CCTV footage revealed the car appearing from around the corner and immediately veering into the group, who had no oppourtunity to get out of the way. Two of the three primary school-aged kids were sisters, with their mother witnessing the crash as she walked to meet them. 'You just hit my daughter!' she said in the footage. She told by 7News on Wednesday: 'I seen the car, I seen them losing control... and I remembered the girls were on the footpath.' 'I looked over and my daughters were in the air.' Her daughter also described the crash. 'All I could see was the car coming towards us,' the girl said. 'So our friend who was walking with us - my first instinct was just to get them out of the way.' All three survived with two girls uninjured and one suffered a minor injury to her arm. The family allege that the Ford was driven by a teenage boy who was a red P-plater, with the partner of the concerned mother describing the situation as 'unimaginable'. The mother shared how grateful she is that the schoolgirls survived. 'Normally I'd say guardian angels are just a load of crap, but somebody was watching over them,' she said. 'You get behind the wheel of a car, you're putting everybody else's lives around you in your hands.' Her younger daughter, who was also hit by the car, told reporters she was more concerned for the alleged driver. 'I was scared that Mum was going to hurt that boy... he's just in high school. 'I didn't want his mum to ground him.'

Body of 'fun loving' boy, 5, dumped in car park bin as disturbing video emerges
WARNING - DISTRESSING CONTENT: The body of little Elyjiah Hearn was discovered inside a bin and a CCTV video has pointed to heartbreaking details A man is facing multiple charges following the death of his girlfriend's young son, who was found dumped inside a bin. The body of Elyjah Hearn, who was just five years old, was found in what prosecutors have described as a "commercial parking lot dumpster". Following the heartbreaking discovery, Brycson Malik Gaddis has been charged with one count of murder and assault on a child causing death. Gaddis is accused of beating the child to death in an apartment in Panorama City, LA, on 11 July, according to authorities. "This is truly a heartbreaking and horrific case, and our deepest sympathies go out to the young victim's family," District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in a statement, via People. "We are committed to seeking justice and will ensure this defendant is held responsible for his actions." US news station ABC7 has since obtained disturbing surveillance video from the night of the alleged murder that appears to show a man walking next to a woman while holding something wrapped in a blanket - similar to the one found wrapped around Elyjah's body. They are walking on the street where Elyjah's body was found the following day. Yousef Rabadi, the co-owner of E&J Market and Liquor, which backs up to the aforementioned street, told the station: "You can see a head and small feet dangling." According to the outlet, Elyjah's mother was questioned by police but has been subsequently released. Gaddis, meanwhile, appeared in court on 18 August and pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. He is currently in jail on a $2m (£1.4m) bond. A GoFundMe has been set up in Elyjah's memory to help cover funeral costs for the little boy. It reads: "It is with shattered hearts that we announce the tragic and senseless passing of our beloved Elyjah Anthony Hearn. Born on March 20, 2020, Elyjah was only 5 years old when his precious life was violently taken. "Elyjah was a joyful, fun-loving child who brought light into every room he entered. He adored his family and was deeply loved in return. His laughter, energy, and innocent spirit touched everyone who knew him. His life was cut short far too soon, and our hearts are broken beyond words."
