James Gunn Thinks Adria Arjona Would Be 'a Great Wonder Woman'
If Superman and the forthcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow weren't enough, a new Wonder Woman movie is officially in the works, too. In June, James Gunn confirmed that a new iteration of Wonder Woman is 'being written right now.' Ana Nogueira, who will also write Supergirl, is in talks to write the script. Here's everything we know about the new DC movie. Gal Gadot will not be reprising her role in the new Wonder Woman film. A new actress has not been cast as the titular hero yet, but Adria Arjona is rumored to be in consideration after people noticed that Gunn followed her on Instagram. 'I follow Adria on Instagram, but everybody came out [and thought], 'He just followed her, that means she's Wonder Woman,'' Gunn shared in an interview with Extra, per Deadline. 'She'd be a great Wonder Woman, by the way.' He also clarified that the follow wasn't recent. They had previously worked together on his 2017 film The Belko Experiment. 'She was in a movie that I made seven years ago,' he said. 'We've been friends and have known each other since that time. I followed her then, I didn't just follow her.' In a previous interview with ELLE, Adria Arjona spoke about the types of projects she hopes to make. 'I'm really intentional and I follow my intuition,' she said. 'When [the right project] comes in front of me, I know that's what I want to do next. When you're in the arts, you can't plan too far ahead. I could say right now, 'All I wanna do is comedy.' But [then I] would not be making good ones, you know? I like to stay as open as I can for the opportunities that are coming my way. I don't wanna get in my own way.' Not yet. On Threads, Gunn shared that though Wonder Woman is a 'priority,' it's not being 'fast-tracked.' He continued, 'Nothing is going to be shot unless we're as sure as we can be that the script is good.' No director is attached to the film yet, and screenwriter Ana Nogueira is only still in talks—not yet confirmed—to write the script. It's unclear whether Patty Jenkins will return after helming the two Gadot-starring Wonder Woman films. She was supposed to direct a third movie, but it did not move forward at Warner Bros. After the news broke in 2022, Jenkins said in part of a larger statement, 'I wish her [Wonder Woman] and her legacy an amazing future ahead, with or without me.' This story will be updated.

'Supergirl': Everything you need to know about the DCU's upcoming movie
The revamped DC Universe (DCU) is off to a soaring start, with James Gunn's "Superman" surpassing $400 million at the box office. It also folded an important new hero into the mix, 'House of the Dragon' and 'Sirens' star Milly Alcock as Supergirl, who is set to get her own standalone movie next year. And the origin story for the Man of Steel's hot-headed cousin looks to be just as chaotic as her cameo. This reboot promises to introduce a bolder, edgier tone to the new DC Universe—so here's everything you need to know about "Supergirl." Look Out. 2026. 16, 2025 "Supergirl" is scheduled to launch in theaters worldwide on June 26, 2025. That means Supergirl will officially soar into the DCU nearly a year after James Gunn's "Superman" hit theaters. While he's not directing the film, Gunn confirmed that principal photography for the project wrapped in May, so post-production should be in full swing by this point. So while delays aren't impossible, there's every reason to believe Supergirl's first standalone venture in the DCU will hit its scheduled release date. The "Supergirl" movie is based 2021's 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,' an eight-issue comic book miniseries written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely. Initially, the movie retained the comic's "Woman of Tomorrow" subtitle before Gunn confirmed in June it was shortened to simply "Supergirl." Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. This epic, space-faring adventure leans more toward the cosmic vibe of Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy" than the character-driven storytelling we saw in "Superman." That tonal difference should help set it apart from the Man of Steel's first outing in the revamped DCU. The movie doesn't have an official synopsis yet, but in the comics, the story centers on a jaded Kara Zor-El (aka Supergirl) who finds herself at a crossroads. Struggling with a sense of purposelessness, she feels adrift now that her younger cousin, Kal-El (Superman), can fight his own battles and no longer needs her protection. Just as she's on the verge of walking away from it all, a young alien warrior named Ruthye Marye Knoll pulls her into a revenge quest. As she sets out to track down Krem, who killed Ruthye's father and destroyed her home, it soon becomes a race to save Krypto's life after he's critically injured in a fight. "We will see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl, raised on a rock, a chip off of Krypton, and who watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life and then come to Earth," Gunn said in a 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "She is much more hardcore and not the Supergirl we're used to." So far, only a few actors have been confirmed for "Supergirl." As we said before, Milly Alcock is starring as the titular superhero Kara Zor-El. The movie will feature "3 Body Problem" star Eve Ridley as Ruthye, Matthias Schoenaerts as the villainous Krem of the Yellow Hills, and Jason Momoa in a small role as DC anti-hero Lobo. Lobo, who doesn't appear in the "Woman of Tomorrow" comic, possesses superstrength and rapid healing abilities in the same vein as Wolverine and roams the galaxy as a ruthless bounty hunter with deadly marksmanship. David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham are also on board as Kara's parents, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed in January. "Supergirl" will be directed by Craig Gillespie with a screenplay by Ana Nogueira of "The Vampire Diaries" and "Hamilton" fame.

Supergirl Cast Reveal: Jason Momoa Joins As Lobo In Milly Alcock-led Film
Last Updated: Just days after releasing the first poster of Supergirl, the makers have revealed the list of some key stars who will appear in the film. Following the release of David Corenswet-led Superman, the revamped DC Universe (DCU) is gearing up for the release of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, the film is set to hit the theatres next year. Just days after releasing the first poster of Supergirl, the makers have now revealed the list of a few key stars who will appear in the second instalment of the DCU. It has already been confirmed that Milly Alcock of House of the Dragon and Sirens fame is set to play the titular character, Kara Zor-El / Supergirl. The cousin of Kal-El, also known as Superman, she made a special appearance towards the end of the James Gunn-directed film, offering a glimpse of what to expect from her character. She was raised on the destroyed planet Krypton, where everyone around her died at a very young age. Previously, DCU co-head James Gunn told ScreenRant that Supergirl will be a 'total mess" in the film and discussed that they will be telling the emotional backstory of the character. According to Just Jared, the very young Eve Ridley will portray Ruthye Marye Knoll, who is a noble and honourable young warrior. She will travel across the galaxy with Supergirl with her personal mission of hunting down Krem, who is responsible for killing her father. The film's main antagonist, Krem of the Yellow Hills, will be played by Matthias Schoenaerts. As the Supergirl film will give a glimpse into her past life, it will also feature her parents. David Krumholtz will play Supergirl's father, whereas Emily Beecham will portray the role of Supergirl's mother. Meanwhile, actor Jason Momoa has been roped in for a cameo as Lobo, who is an alien mercenary and bounty hunter from the utopian planet of Czarnia. The 45-year-old actor has previously expressed his desire to play the character. In a chat with Fandango, he said, 'If they call me and ask me to play him, it's a f–k yeah…it's the perfect role." There are also reports claiming that David Corenswet might make a cameo in Supergirl, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, whose filming reportedly wrapped up recently, with shooting taking place in Iceland and England, is scheduled for release in theatres on June 26, 2026. The official synopsis of the film reads: 'Supergirl travels across the galaxy to celebrate her 21st birthday with Krypto the Superdog. Along the way, she meets a young woman named Ruthye and winds up on a murderous quest for revenge." First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. James Gunn reveals Superman secrets, teases Supergirl and DCU future
James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios and director of Superman (2025), opened up in a spoiler-heavy interview about the film's themes, character decisions, and what's next for the DC Universe (DCU). Speaking to Rolling Stone, Gunn emphasized that Superman is rooted in kindness, compassion, and identity — rather than traditional notions of destiny and hope. 'I wanted a Superman who could be beaten,' Gunn explained, highlighting Kal-El's vulnerability as a strength. The now-viral 'punk rock' line was present in the early drafts and ties to Iggy Pop's 'Punkrocker,' which Gunn discovered via Spotify and used in the ending montage. Gunn confirmed that the Justice Gang's imp villain is not Mr. Mxyzptlk and discussed the fictional band 'Mighty Crabjoys,' which inspired the end-credits song he co-wrote. A cameo poster in Clark Kent's room reflects Lois' understanding of Clark's warmth, a moment Gunn called pivotal. Supergirl, portrayed as a 'rougher' character, will be the focus of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (2026), written by Ana Nogueira. Gunn confirmed that Krypto the Superdog — now Supergirl's companion — will return, but reassured fans that tonal shifts will occur. Peacemaker Season 2 will explore dimensional conflict, not a direct reset of the DCEU. Meanwhile, Easter eggs in the Hall of Justice hint at long-term plans, though not all characters will appear soon. Gunn dismissed fan hopes of a retcon regarding Jor-El and Lara, saying their portrayal reflects the film's emotional arc. Gunn also hinted at fast-tracking Wonder Woman and acknowledged strong domestic performance, citing global anti-American sentiment as a hurdle abroad. Still, he remains optimistic: 'This is just the seed of the tree we've been watering.'
