Pink Villa20-07-2025
Milly Alcock will take on the role of Kara Zor-El in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the second movie in the new DC Universe (DCU). Alcock is best known for playing young Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon and Simone Dewitt in Sirens. She briefly appeared as Supergirl in the new Superman movie, giving fans their first glimpse of her take on the character.
Supergirl is Superman's cousin and was raised on a fragment of Krypton, witnessing devastating loss before arriving on Earth. James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, said, 'We see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock…and watched everyone around her die.'
Eve Ridley as Ruthye: The young warrior
Newcomer Eve Ridley plays Ruthye Marye Knoll, a noble young woman who joins Supergirl on a galactic journey, as per Just Jared. Ruthye's mission is personal, to seek revenge on the man who killed her father. Together, the two embark on a deadly quest. Matthias Schoenaerts has been cast as the film's main villain, Krem, the man responsible for Ruthye's father's death.
The movie also includes a look at Supergirl's past. Emily Beecham plays her mother, while David Krumholtz appears as her father. These characters are expected to give more emotional depth to Kara's backstory.
Here's who's making a surprise cameo
Jason Momoa is set to appear in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as Lobo, the alien bounty hunter from Czarnia. The casting was officially confirmed in December. Momoa has long expressed his desire to play the role.
In a 2022 text message shared by James Gunn, Momoa wrote: 'F–king Lobo.' Gunn replied, 'Dude, I've said you should be Lobo for years. No lie.' Momoa later told Fandango, 'If they call me and ask me to play him, it's a f–k yeah…it's the perfect role.' Superman actor David Corenswet may also make a cameo, though it has not been officially confirmed.
Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow recently wrapped filming in England and Iceland. The film is based on the comic of the same name and will explore a darker, grittier version of Supergirl.
The official synopsis reads: 'Supergirl travels across the galaxy to celebrate her 21st birthday with Krypto the Superdog. Along the way, she meets a young woman named Ruthye and winds up on a murderous quest for revenge.' Krypto the Superdog is confirmed to appear in the film.

After Jurassic World Rebirth and Superman, this sci-fi film became blockbuster, made on budget of Rs 2300 crore, earned Rs 2500 crore, movie name is…

In a world of cosmic echoes and multiverse revelations, one film made waves by crossing Rs 2500 crore within three days, where giants like Jurassic World: Rebirth and DC's most anticipated Superman are already dominating the box office heavily. The film has now become a huge topic of discussion, which has now set the bar for the upcoming parts and the fate of the fallen Marvel Cinematic Universe. Which film is this? Here we are talking about Marvel's newly released sci-fi, 'Fantastic Four: First Steps. Helmed by Matt Shakman with music by Michael Giacchino, the film transports viewers to an alternate 1960s Earth. Its ensemble cast includes Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben. Julia Garner debuts as the female Silver Surfer (Shalla‑Bal), while Ralph Ineson portrays the cosmic titan Galactus. What is the storyline? The film bypasses the usual origin plot from the comic, of the Fantastic Four, where these four have already inherited their superpowers after their space mission. The plot gets interesting when Galactus arrives, demanding Sue's (played by Vanessa Kirby) unborn son Franklin and the family faces their darkest hour. Reed Richards (played by Pedro Pascal) builds teleportation bridges to save Earth and the finale sees the Silver Surfer sacrificing herself to betray Galactus, only for Franklin's emerging power to resurrect Sue, revealing his immense potential for the upcoming calamity. How much did Fantastic Four: First Steps make at box office? Globally, the film opened to 218 million (118m domestic, 100m international) 2500 crore according to the Indian rupee, which was made on a staggering budget of Rs 2300 crore. In India, it began modestly at Rs 5.1 crore on day one and Rs 12.6 crore by day two. By day three, collection reached Rs 19.6 crore, reflecting growing audience interest despite strong competition like Jurassic World: Rebirth, Superman, Saiyaara and latest releases, Mahavatar Narsimha and Hari Hara Veera Mallu. More about Fantastic Four: First Steps Galactus, whose entry was awaited by Marvel fans after Thanos, has completely shaken everyone, a godlike cosmic entity that consumes planets. His looming threat and retro design ground the story in tangible dread. Meanwhile, Doctor Doom doesn't appear fully in this film, the mid-credits tease Robert Downey Jr.'s portrayal in Avengers: Doomsday, setting up a future confrontation with the Fantastic Fours.

Saiyaara: When the audience becomes the show

When sai hit theatres on July 18, few expected the kind of frenzy it would ignite. Directed by Mohit Suri and starring debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, the movie is more than just a box office winner – it's a full-blown pop culture moment that has turned cinema halls into concert stages. A viral video across the internet from a movie's show featured a fan, a man who took off his shirt in excitement to dance to the title track of the show. In another, a man is seen watching the film with an IV drip attached to his hand. Videos have surfaced online of young girls sobbing their hearts, while their friends consoled media is divided over the reception of the movie. Like any discourse, this too has two sides. But despite all the mixed reactions, it is clear that Saiyaara has somehow struck a chord. Saiyaara tells the story of hotheaded wannabe composer Krish Kapoor (Panday) and Vaani Batra (Padda), an earnest journalist who loves poetry. Through the course of the film the two fall in love while creating music, but life throws obstacles in their way. How they navigate this complication forms the crux of the story. Such is the frenzy of the film, that on a weekday afternoon, theatres were jam-packed with audiences from different age demographics pouring in to watch the movie. A large set of the audience had shown up only due to the online reviews and viral videos and the curiosity to know what is all the buzz and hush about. 'I should have not fallen for this. I should have just booked the ticket for Superman or something,' a man was telling his friends in the dark theater, even before the movie neared the intermission. A lot of the videos that went viral showed audiences breaking down after watching the film, but at Inox Odeon at Connaught Place there was no extreme reaction to the film. People came, watched the film and left. 27-year-old Saniya Kapoor, who caught the film in Connaught Place said, 'The album is really good. And it is a breath of fresh air to see a romantic film after so long in Bollywood.' Khushi Khurana also had a similar opinion, she said, 'It is a one-time watch for sure. The music and the chemistry between the two leads really works. Moreover, it reminds me of the Bollywood that I grew up on. My friend had tears in her eyes.' At the heart of the craze is the film's music. Composed by Mithoon, Sachet-Parampara, Tanishk Bagchi, Rishabh Kant, Vishal Mishra, Faheem Abdullah and Arslan Nisami, the film's soundtrack is being majorly credited for the movie's popular appeal. The movie also comes at a time, when across industry the market is in more favor of high-action flicks. 17-year-old Samriddhi and 18-year-old Shreya who had come to catch the early evening show in the PVR Inox in Mall of India, Noida said that movie worked really well for them because it was not over the top dramatic. 'The movie was to the point, and I think it really explains the concept of love well. And the chemistry between the leads and their acting was also really good.' 22-year-old Varshika says, 'The combination between the protagonists and their chemistry worked really well. The music along with it just added to its beauty.' What has also worked in the movie's favor is the lack of promotions, which has helped in building curiosity. A large number of audiences who showed up at the theatre were after seeing the online frenzy or through word of mouth. But it still doesn't really justify the extreme reactions of having a breakdown and fainting after watching the movie. Not to dismiss anyone's emotions, Saiyaara is not as devastating as the reaction shows, instead it has a happy-ending that leaves its audience hopeful. More telling is, though, how the conversation around Saiyaara has shifted from what's on screen to what's happecinemaning in front of it. The viral videos feel less like spontaneous outpourings and more like staged performances engineered for Instagram clout. Theatrical audience behaviour — shirtless cheering, flash mobs in auditoriums —reads as performance, not passion. It's fandom flattened into content. What Saiyaara ultimately captures is not just a hunger for emotional storytelling, but the way virality now manufactures impact. The line between genuine fan connection and orchestrated gimmick is increasingly blurry — and Saiyaara walks it expertly. Whether that's a testament to the film's power or a sign of the industry's evolving PR machinery is a question the next box-office 'phenomenon' may answer more clearly.
