LeBron James Barbie selling in record numbers on StockX

(Credit: eBay) The recent release of the LeBron James Barbie — the first Ken doll of a male professional athlete — made massive waves on StockX, setting a new record for the most launch-day sales for any collectible in the history of the platform. Advertisement According to data shared with cllct, there were more than 1,400 sales of the doll on its release day Monday with an average resale price of $118. That's 57 percent higher than its original retail price of $75. RELATED STORIES: Previously, the launch-day record for a collectible on StockX was owned by the Supreme Hot Wheels Fleet Flyer + 1992 BMW M3 Red from April 2019, which saw 1,170 trades on its first day. eBay also saw significant sales volume for the doll, including the $3,000 sale of one signed by James himself. Mattel's first ever Ken doll based on a professional athlete has generated a frenzy of interest both in stores and online since it became available for purchase. The new LeBron James 'Kenbassador' Barbie doll carried a retail price of $75 and first went on sale last Saturday at Undefeated's La Brea location in Los Angeles, where fans and collectors started lining up two days before the doll hit shelves. One man even showed up dressed in a LeBron Lakers uniform and followed by a full choir singing a parody of Michael Jackson's 'Man in the Mirror' about the NBA's all-time points leader. Current searches for 'LeBron Barbie' on eBay reveal the dolls selling for over $100 on average and a rare autographed version sold for as much as $3,000. StockX says the doll is the site's number one collectibles release ever with over 1,400 transactions on its release day, surpassing the previous record set by the Supreme Hot Wheels Fleet Flyer + 1992 BMW M3 from 2019, which had 1,170 opening day sales.
