The investigation into the abduction of the two-year-old girl from the Wonder City slum area in Katraj on July 26 has led to the arrest of five individuals, mostly migrant beggars from the Pardhi community. The arrested individuals have been identified as Sunil Bhosale (51), Shankar Pawar (50), and Shalubai Kale (45)—all from Pardhi Vasti in Tuljapur, Dharashiv district. The accused are believed to be part of an organised network of beggars who frequently travel between religious destinations that attract large crowds, such as Pandharpur and Alandi during the annual Wari, and Pune during the Ganesh festival. The network allegedly kidnaps young children to accompany them while begging, using the children to elicit public sympathy and increase earnings. Rahulkumar Khilare, Senior Police Inspector (SPI) at Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Station, said, 'Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused belong to the Pardhi community and had planned to exploit the kidnapped child for begging. However, the investigation is ongoing.'

Development of Comprehensive Mobility Plan for Navi Mumbai and Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area initiated
Navi Mumbai: Cidco began crafting a Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for Navi Mumbai and the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) regions. This initiative seeks to establish sustainable and inclusive transport solutions extending to 2054. The programme emphasises safety, efficiency, and environmental consciousness whilst connecting various transport modes and encouraging public transit usage. According to Cidco, the plan takes an all-encompassing view, considering public transport, private vehicles, and non-motorised options like walking and cycling, whilst addressing urbanisation challenges. "With projects such as Navi Mumbai International Airport, Corporate Park, Aerocity, Edu City, Logistic Park, and Medicity, along with residential and industrial growth, traffic volume in Navi Mumbai is set to rise substantially. In this backdrop, the Comprehensive Mobility Plan will serve as a guiding framework for Cidco and other authorities to develop a versatile, inclusive, and future-ready transportation system," said Vijay Singhal, vice chairman & managing director, Cidco. However, it has not gone down well with residents who criticised the city planner for its tall promises which were never fulfilled on time. "A case in point is Cidco's metro line-1 which took over a decade to complete. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas Prices In Dubai Might Be More Affordable Than You Think Villas In Dubai | Search Ads Get Quote Undo Drinking water was a perennial issue which was yet to be addressed by Cidco in areas under Panvel corporation and Cidco administered nodes," said activist Swapnil Pawar. With ongoing developments including NMIA, Metro Line 8, and the Panvel-Karjat railway line, an integrated transport strategy becomes essential, said Singhal. "The CMP will serve to identify transport network gaps, determine investment priorities, and create a systematic implementation plan aligned with mobility requirements. It stands as a prerequisite for securing funding from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for metro and public transport initiatives," said Cidco. The plan aims to connect Navi Mumbai and NAINA with forthcoming developments like JNPT's Manufacturing Hub, NMIIA, and Corporate Park in Kharghar, said an official. "It focuses on delivering efficient mobility solutions that maintain environmental sustainability and social equity. The initiative promotes non-motorised and public transport, aligning with National Urban Transport Policy guidelines. It integrates with the MMR Comprehensive Transport Study whilst implementing advanced traffic engineering practices. The strategy emphasises enhanced traffic operations and road safety through comprehensive management measures," said an official.
