One more arrest in Katraj kidnapping case
Swapnil Pawar, API and investigating officer in the case, said, 'In the past week, we have arrested five individuals from Tuljapur and various parts of Pune. During their interrogation, Sachin Pawar's name emerged. It appears that the kidnapping was carried out following Pawar's instructions.'
The investigation into the abduction of the two-year-old girl from the Wonder City slum area in Katraj on July 26 has led to the arrest of five individuals, mostly migrant beggars from the Pardhi community.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sunil Bhosale (51), Shankar Pawar (50), and Shalubai Kale (45)—all from Pardhi Vasti in Tuljapur, Dharashiv district.
The accused are believed to be part of an organised network of beggars who frequently travel between religious destinations that attract large crowds, such as Pandharpur and Alandi during the annual Wari, and Pune during the Ganesh festival. The network allegedly kidnaps young children to accompany them while begging, using the children to elicit public sympathy and increase earnings.
Rahulkumar Khilare, Senior Police Inspector (SPI) at Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Station, said, 'Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused belong to the Pardhi community and had planned to exploit the kidnapped child for begging. However, the investigation is ongoing.'

3 arrested for stealing sandalwood trees
Udupi: In a breakthrough, Karkala Rural police on Wednesday, arrested three persons involved in the theft of nine sandalwood trees worth Rs 4 lakh from a private plantation in Nitte village. The accused are Ganesh,44, and Santosh,35, from Karkala taluk, Udupi district, and Moidin alias Moyidu Kunja,60, from Bantwal taluk, Dakshina Kannada district. On the night of June 16, a case of sandalwood theft was reported under the jurisdiction of Karkala Rural police station, where nine sandalwood trees were stolen from the plantation of Dinesh Shettigar. A case was registered under Sections 329(3), 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Sections 86 and 87 of the Karnataka Forest Act. Following the registration of the case, a team led by PSI Prasanna MS and PSI Sundar took up the investigation. The team recovered pieces of the stolen sandalwood trees from the accused. During interrogation, the accused confessed to committing similar thefts in the jurisdiction of Shirva police station as well. They were produced before a court. ‘Drunk' constable rams car into bike in Navi Mumbai, booked
Navi Mumbai: A 42-year-old police constable in civilian dress, while allegedly driving his car rashly and at high speed under the influence of alcohol, hit a biker from behind and sped away in Ghansoli on Wednesday afternoon. The biker and a pillion woman rider woman sustained minor injuries in the collision, which also caused damage to the bike. The incident, which was video recorded by the dashcam in a car behind the constable's, went viral on social media. However, passersby intercepted the constable's car ahead at a junction and informed Rabale police station. A police team reached the spot and detained the constable, who was visibly inebriated. Inside his car, there was a plastic bottle containing liquor mixed with water, which was video recorded by the people gathered at the spot. API Deepak Kharat of Rabale police station informed that the accused constable, identified as Ravindra Pawar, resides in Gharonda Complex, Sector 9, Ghansoli. He is attached to Parksite police station, Vikhroli. On Wednesday, he had a weekly off and hence was not in police uniform when he was driving the car and hit a biker. Around 1pm, while Pawar was driving his car along the stretch of road from Sunberry Building to D-Mart Junction in Ghansoli, he hit a biker from behind near Rajiv Gandhi College bus stop of NMMT. The biker, with a woman riding pillion, skidded due to the collision and sustained minor injuries. He was booked under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash driving on a public way, endangering life or personal safety due to negligence or recklessness, and offence of mischief. Also, under the Motor Vehicles Act for dangerous driving and offence of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Since the accused was booked under relevant sections of BNS wherein, if convicted by the court, it attracts punishment of less than seven years, as per the provision of the law, he was not arrested and was served with a notice under Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), directing him to appear for investigation."
