What to expect as County Ground concerts return to Swindon this weekend

The Vengaboys and Tinchy Stryder will be the headline attraction as the County Ground concerts return to Swindon for their second year. After a ten-year absence, concerts returned to the home of Swindon Town last summer, and they are expected to be bigger and better this year following a successful first year. Across May 23 and 24, there will be Clubland Live and the Could Be Real Tribute Festival taking place with last year's total attendance of 5,000 expected to be surpassed. Taking shape at the Nigel Eady County Ground 🔧 — Swindon Town Football Club (@Official_STFC) May 22, 2025 Clubland Live takes place on May 23, starting at 4 pm as Biggz Deejay opens the eight-hour extravaganza of iconic artists from the '90s and '00s, with Tinchy Stryder taking the stage at 7.45 pm and headliners Vengaboys at 9.30 pm performing their hits like 'Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom.' The other artists performing will include the likes of: DJ Sammy, Whigfield, Ultrabeat, and Ian Van Dahl. Then on May 24, starting at 3 pm and running until 11 pm, some of the best tribute acts around will excite the crowds with the music of many beloved artists with the Could Be Real Tribute Festival. Festival goers will be treated to the music of David Bowie, Elton John, Blur, Amy Winehouse, Kasabian, Oasis, Stereophonics, and Queen. There will also be a large array of refreshments available for those attending, with three food vendors serving attendees, with burgers, fries, chicken gyros, and ice cream available, as well as plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. Swindon Commercial Officer James Watts said of the concerts: 'Last year was the first event for ten years, and we have learned from the little mistakes we made; we are looking at extra bar space, more food vendors inside, and a more vigorous idea around how the VIP will work. 'Those were the three big lessons we have learned from last year, and I feel like we are more prepared now, having done one last year. 'There are a lot of venues, but in Wiltshire, there aren't really any, and that probably extends to between Bristol and London, that there aren't a lot of places which can host big acts. 'Realistically, in the long term, I think that we can look at a 10-15,000-people event, but that has to be built up over a number of years. 'We have put ourselves in the shop window to be able to do larger-scale events and attract people not only from Swindon but the wider area.'

Swindon boss has skin cancer removed with surgery

Ian Holloway, manager of Swindon Town, had to have surgery for a cancerous growth removal. (Image: Swindon Town Football Club) Swindon Town's manager, Ian Holloway went under the knife recently to remove a cancerous growth beneath his eye. Holloway was still on the touchline for Town's final game of the season, a 1-1 draw with MK Dons, despite the recent surgery. Many fans may have noticed the scarring on the right side of his face where the growth was removed, which he admitted makes him look like he "had a fight with a bear". In an interview with The Sun, the Swindon manager opened up about his battles with skin cancer, saying: "I am getting all sorts of bit and pieces falling off me. "You can see it, but I used to go out in the sun, I get skin cancer problems. "My advice to anybody is please don't do it. Don't let your kids get burnt. Don't go out there if you've got fair skin like I have. "Put [Factor] 50 on, keep covered, because I can't do anything about these bits, and I've got a huge scar on the right-hand side of my face now. "Luckily they cut it out and they're sending it off to see. There'll probably be more bits of me in a jar somewhere than there is sat here." Fortunately, Holloway was there to see out his side's season, and will be hoping to build on the progress the club has made on the pitch going into next season. When Holloway was first appointed as the new main man in the dugout in October 2024, Swindon were sitting just above the drop zone in 22nd place, four points being the gap. In his first full game as manager, he led the Robins to a 2-1 win at the County Ground against Colchester in the FA Cup first round. Fast forward to May and Holloway turned the team from relegation fodder to play-off hopefuls. Although, they fell short and finished in mid-table, Holloway impressed as the boss and made football exciting for fans again at the County Ground. After the final game, Swindon Town's X account posted photos of Holloway with the caption: "Speedy recovery, Gaffer". Fans showed their support in the replies with one account saying, "All the best Ollie, Still remember as a kid when I would wait for my mate at the King George and you would always give us a thumbs up on matchdays when you drove past & when you offered us a lift to the ground". Another said: "As a Donny fan, just wanted to wish Ollie all the best, thought he did an incredible job last season."
