Will Best admits proposing to his fiancée while on holiday was a 'mistake'

After popping the all-important question to his long-term partner Tobi Rose last year, Big Brother presenter Will Best has now revealed why it was a mistake Will Best has revealed that it was a "mistake" proposing to his long-term girlfriend while they were on a romantic holiday last summer. ‌ Last July, the Big Brother presenter, 40, finally popped the question andproposed to his girlfriend of over a decade, stylist Tobi Rose. The TV star, who co-hosts the ITV reality TV show alongside AJ Odudu, got down on one knee to propose to his future wife during a romantic trip abroad and said at the time that he couldn't wait to "celebrate making it down the aisle". ‌ Will, who first gained fame co-hosting TV show T4 before landing the Big Brother gig last year, took Tobi on a romantic trip to Italy and proposed in the stunning setting of Tuscany. ‌ At the time of their engagement, a friend close to Will said: "It's been a long time coming, but Will and Tobi are finally engaged." They added: "Naturally, they are both overjoyed and can't wait to celebrate making it down the aisle." Despite the romantic gesture, Will has now revealed that proposing while on holiday with Tobi wasn't the best idea in the grand scheme of things. The TV star had revealed that he and his future wife have yet to even start planning their wedding, one year after the romantic engagement. ‌ However, after popping the question to Tobi in Tuscany, Will has revealed that his other half is dead set on tying the knot in Italy too. Speaking about why his engagement could have been a mistake, Will joked: "It was lovely. It was really nice. The only problem is now my fiancé is like, 'oh, let's get married in Tuscany too. But that just sounds expensive," he told Mail Online. While Will is in no rush to walk down the aisle and say his 'I do's', Tobi can't wait to become his blushing bride after being in a relationship with the TV star for over a decade. ‌ Speaking in the new interview, Will joked that he told Tobi about a segment he previously did while working on Hits Radio. Will and his team spoke to several couples who waited years before actually tying the knot after getting engaged. One couple even waited a whopping 32 years after their engagement. Will also admitted that he's the kind of person to take things slow in a relationship, even confessing that he and Tobi didn't take their first holiday abroad until 11 years into their relationship. ‌ "We'd done a decade without a proper holiday, because we're both freelancers, and every time I booked a holiday, work would come up, or every time something would happen which meant I couldn't do it," he revealed. "So we would holiday sporadically and briefly - lots of city breaks, lots of weekends away, which is still great, but your long, fully unplugged holiday, that took us a long time. Also, because I travel a lot with work, it kind of always felt like my my travel itch was being scratched all the time, and she travels a lot with work as well, like she goes on shoots abroad for weeks at a time." ‌ When it comes to his personal life, Will likes to keep it under wraps generally, but he has shared some glimpses into his relationship on social media. He and Tobi share a beautiful home as well as an adorable pet dog. The couple don't yet have any children. On one of their anniversaries, Will posted a gorgeous picture of the two of them commemorating the significant milestone and gushed about how much Tobi means to him. At the time, he penned: "Twelve years ago today I met this truly one in a 7.88 billion human being. She was even my first ever Instagram post. "And if you scroll right you'll see that, as well as being the love of my life, she's also frighteningly true to her word." Accompanying the romantic post, he shared another picture featuring a comment from Tobi circled from the old photo, saying: "I'll never leave you."

Singapore's Airport Police Division trials autonomous patrol robot that doubles up as transport option

SINGAPORE: Two scooter-like automatons marked with the Singapore Police Force (SPF) logo have been making the rounds at Changi Airport's Terminal 4 (T4) in recent weeks. These are not your typical cleaning or tray collection droids that you see at shopping malls, but actually new patrol robots being trialled in T4's departure area by the Airport Police Division. The robots, which have been on trial since early July, have two functions. They serve as autonomous patrol robots and also provide a 'ride-hailing' service for airport police officers. Officers can summon the devices to their locations, before riding on them to get to their intended destinations within the airport quickly. The GIBSON robot, named after the inventor of the first motorised scooter, Arthur Hugo Cecil Gibson, was developed by the Home Team Science and Technology Agency (HTX) in collaboration with the A*STAR Institute for Infocomm Research. Both of GIBSON's functions were demonstrated to the media at T4 on Wednesday (Jul 16). The device stands at about chest height and has handlebars and a platform for riders to stand on. The operational speed of the robot will be determined during the trial period. The length of the trial, as well as which parts of the airport the robots will eventually be deployed in, have not yet been made public. In autonomous patrol mode, it stopped whenever people walked in front of it. It also made detours to an intended location if an obstacle stood in its way. GIBSON is equipped with cameras, 3D light detection, sound navigation and other features that allow it to determine its location and safely navigate indoor environments and avoid collisions, SPF and HTX said in a joint statement. In its "ride" mode, GIBSON can be used as a means of ride-hailing by officers. Using an internal phone application, officers can call the robot to come to where they are autonomously. An airport police officer showed how he could use the application to summon the robot, and subsequently boarded it to move around the airport using manual controls such as the handlebars. But not just anyone can ride it. To take control of the robot, an officer has to use a personal key. This ensures that members of the public cannot abuse or ride on the device. If a member of the public stands in GIBSON's way, it may also use a horn. "Officers riding the GIBSON can traverse large indoor areas swiftly, thereby improving incident response time while enhancing their mobility and operational readiness within the airport," said SPF and HTX. During the demonstration, CNA observed that the robot moved at about walking speed. Speaking to the media after, the Airport Police Division's operations officer for planning and readiness Patrick Pang said the ride-hailing function makes it convenient for officers to summon GIBSON without having to manually search for it. Mr Seah Qi Yan, a ground systems engineer at HTX's Robotics, Automation and Unmanned Systems Centre of Expertise, said GIBSON was a step up from robots that typically only conduct autonomous patrols. "We hope to create more integrated robotic systems that respond dynamically to both environmental cues and input from Home Team officers," said Mr Seah. The police in 2023 rolled out robots which cannot be ridden but can help patrol premises autonomously.

Vernon Kay hits back at fans questioning how he got so many Oasis tour tickets

Liam and Noel Gallagher have been delighting fans in Cardiff and Manchester on their current Oasis Live '25 Tour - and fans have noticed Vernon Kay in the crowds more than once Vernon Kay has hit back at fans who have questioned how he got so many tickets for the current Oasis tour. The 51-year-old model and TV host, who is married to Strictly Come Dancing star Tess Daly, has been following the Gallagher brothers like a shadow after they kicked off their 41 date tour this month. Liam, 52, and Noel, 58, launched their Oasis Live '25 Tour in Cardiff on 4 July where they performed two night and are now in the midst of a five night run at Manchester's Heaton Park. Former T4 host Vernon was among the crowd at Principality Stadium to watch Oasis perform in Wales. ‌ And this weekend, he shared video clips of himself enjoying the group again - this time from Heaton Park in Manchester. The fact that he has appeared at two points on the same has left some music fans perplexed. ‌ Following their gig on Friday, Vernon shared footage of himself watching the boys on stage while he sang along in the 80,000 strong audience. He shared the footage on his main Instagram grid, writing: "Manchester! Day1. @oasis The excellence continues! Bravo!!" along with a flame emoji. But one baffled fan responded, writing: "How did Vernon get so many tickets? Cardiff now Manchester!" However, the mystery was anything but - as Vernon swiftly answered the question himself, writing in reply: "Paid for them!!" ‌ Vernon, who has been the mid-morning host on BBC Radio 2 since May 2023, has been working for the BBC at Heaton park too. He interviewed support act Cast ahead of the weekend shows. By all rights, the new Oasis tour has been a smash hit among fans and critics. The tour sees Liam and Noel belt out 23 hit songs - with crowds lapping up the banter, vocals, and staging. Oasis: What's Their Story? An unofficial celebration magazine on sale now! A few simple words on social media on August 27 in 2024 were enough to spark pandemonium among Oasis fans and were the catalyst for the most eagerly awaited UK gigs of all time. This special unofficial magazine, available to order here, marks the reunion and honours the band both now and down the years with our incredible archive of photos and interviews - and with exclusive reviews and photographs of their first show! ‌ The Mirror's Showbiz Editor Mark Jefferies attended one of Oasis's first two Heaton Park gigs and was blown away by the performance - as well as the friendly relations between the lead singers. He recounts: "On Saturday night at the end of the show the brothers hugged and then Noel pointed over to his brother in a clear show of admiration and to tell the crowd just how much he loved Liam's performance. It was a shocking sight, the total opposite of their old rows on stage." Having managed to attend three of the first four gigs, Mark adds: "Would I like more stage interaction? Of course. And some of the lines on stage are now pre-planned which doesn't feel very Oasis. But the Gallaghers have grown up, and like their mature fans who can only manage to jump up and down for the odd song in three these days, this style of set is what they need to make things work." ‌ The Mirror's Daniel Bird also attended one of the Manchester dates, revealing: "Walking out at Heaton Park, you could never have imagined that there was once a feud between the two siblings. Putting on a united front, the two legends walked out to their 2000 track, F***in' In The Bushes, to a crowd of 80,000 people, with the atmosphere instantly becoming electric." Oasis performed at Heaton Park on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 July - and will return for three more gigs in the park in north Manchester. They have dates there on July 16, 19 and 20. They then advance to London's Wembley Stadium where they will take to the stage on July 25, 26 and 30 and August 2 and 3. While the two gigs in Manchester were a success, they were also marred by controversy as music fans without tickets attempted to storm the venue. ‌ Police arrested 15 people over the weekend as dozens of fans attempted to scale the security barriers with a ladder. Manchester Evening News reporter Chris Slater, revealed: "An eyewitness has told me that just before Oasis came on stage around 50 people tried to 'rush' one of the internal entrances to the gig area. They said around 10 appeared to get in but the rest were apprehended and turned away." Police later confirmed: "No one made it through to the concert area". A dispersal order was issued in the park to combat the ticketless Oasis fans - and viral footage showed at least one man being led away in handcuffs.

This Melbourne school is one of the best in the world for overcoming adversity

For most Australian children, school is a place to learn and to socialise. But for Khurshid Mohammadi, attending classes is an act of defiance. When the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in August 2021, women's rights were eroded, including access to education. 'I was crying, it was unbelievable. Families were scared of the Taliban taking women from their houses,' said Mohammadi, 21. 'It changed the dreams of women all over Afghanistan.' But she, along with 120 other female refugees and asylum seekers, found hope and a community on the other side of the world at River Nile School, a small independent school in North Melbourne. The unassuming school on Capel Street is a finalist for educational platform T4's award for World's Best School for overcoming adversity, alongside schools in Uganda, England, Latin America, Pakistan and war-torn Palestine. Principal Charles Hertzog said the students – who he calls 'friends' – had a real gratitude and desire for education that he hadn't seen elsewhere. 'I think that having had education removed from you for some block of time, which is true for all of our young women, makes them their own advocates for school in really different ways, based on their lives and their family situations,' Hertzog said. 'But it does create this kind of shared camaraderie and gratitude that crosses over those country lines and experiences.'
