Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka instructed electricity officials to identify 23 locations across the State to bring into large-scale use power from hydel and pumped storage sources, and submit a comprehensive report. He held a review meeting with GENCO and TRANSCO officials at Somasila in Kollapur constituency on Sunday. He reviewed the hydropower projects on the Krishna River from Jurala to Pulichintala, and suggested that if necessary, the services of globally renowned consultants should be utilised. He praised the visionary thinking of the leaders and engineers of that era. Further, GENCO directors and officials were instructed to draw up plans for sufficient power generation over the next 10 to 20 years in line with increasing demand. He stressed the need to expand the use of alternative energy sources like Green hydrogen, Floating solar, Rooftop solar, Thermal power, Wind energy and battery storage systems.

Green energy to light up the world in future: Bhatti

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka has asserted that the future belongs to green power and Telangana is moving forward with strategic planning by prioritizing this sector. The Deputy CM visited the Greenko Integrated Power Project in Pinnapuram village of Orvakal Mandal in Kurnool district on Saturday. Highlighting Telangana's vision for boosting renewable energy, he said that MoUs worth ₹1 lakh crore had been signed for green power generation in Telangana. He noted that the Telangana government had introduced the 2025 New Energy Policy, aiming to achieve 20,000 MW green power by 2029–30. Bhatti observed that, with power demand increasing across the country, the Telangana government was exploring various avenues to enhance power generation and move toward surplus electricity. 'Every product in the world requires electricity. To increase production, electricity supply must be abundant. If production increases, employment and the state's GDP will grow. It's a continuous cycle,' he said. Bhatti Vikramarka pointed out that electricity consumption was rising across India, and if power was generated solely through coal, it would increase costs and pollution, impacting the environment. Hence, like elsewhere in the world, the nation was rapidly shifting toward green power, he emphasized. As part of his visit, the Deputy Chief Minister conducted an aerial survey of the project site via helicopter. He inspected key infrastructure including the upper and lower reservoirs of the closed-loop pumped storage system, the powerhouse complex, and the advanced substation. The Deputy CM reviewed the integration of solar, wind, and 1,680 MW of hydro pumped storage with a storage cycle of four hours, twice daily. Telangana principal secretary to Energy Department Sandeep Kumar Sultania, TRANSCO CMD Krishna Bhaskar, GENCO CMD Harish and others were present on the occasion.
