Liam Gallagher 'waiting on apology' from Edinburgh City Council in second mid-gig rant

The singer took yet another foul-mouthed swipe at Edinburgh City council during night 2 of their Murrayfield gigs. Oasis have now completed two out of three nights in Edinburgh for their globally famous reunion tour. And last night, August 9, Liam took another swipe at Edinburgh City Council, similar to his Friday night rant. ‌ The tension comes after it was leaked back in June that Edinburgh Council had deemed Oasis fans 'fat drunks'. On Friday, August 8, Liam hit out at the council, calling them 'f***ing s****'- and he came out with similar insults last night. ‌ The Gallagher had said on Friday: "One second, where do I start here with everyone at the city council, the f***ing slags. £1 billion pounds we're bringing to this city over the next three days. £1billion. But you won't see any of it because the Lord Provost will be splitting it between [his] posh ugly f***ing mates." ‌ Last night saw a similar outburst, with the singer declaring that they were bringing even more money to Edinburgh. Liam said: "Two billion pounds we'll have brought into this city over the next few days - two f*****g billion - and you'll see none of it. And they've got the f*****g cheek to slag us lot off." ‌ As Oasis launched into their iconic song Bring It On Down, Liam continued: "Still waiting for our apology... bring it on down!" Back in June, one note from the council's briefing documents showed officials warning that "middle-aged men take up more room, consider this when working out occupancy". ‌ Another detailed "concern about crowds of Oasis on weekends as they are already rowdy and the tone of the band". One document also suggested there would be 'medium to high intoxication' at the concert, and to expect a 'substantial amount of older fans', but added there had been 'minimal arrests' at recent events involving either of the Gallagher brothers. It's safe to say that Oasis didn't take the comments lightly, with Liam saying at the time: "To the Edinburgh council I've heard what you said about Oasis fans and quite frankly your attitude f****** stinks. I'd leave town that day if I was any of you lot.' ‌ In other Oasis news, Noel had an emotional moment during acoustic tune Talk Tonight last night, where audience members noticed him getting teary-eyed. Many fans speculated that the Scottish gigs were especially emotional for Noel, who got divorced from his Scots wife Sara McDonald in 2023. ‌ Noel's divorce from the Scottish music PR is said to have set him back £20m and forced him to give up their luxury £8M Hampshire home. The Gallagher previously opened up about their split on Matt Morgan's Patreon Podcast, where he spoke about adjusting to single life. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! "And get on the canal outside my wonderful ex-wife's house and give her a little wave, and go, 'You didn't take this from me'!"

Noel Gallagher 'tears up' at latest Oasis gig as he gets emotional during one song

Oasis performed a sold-out show in Edinburgh on Saturday (August 9th), and during the gig Noel Gallagher was spotted getting emotional in the middle of an important song Oasis concluded their second consecutive sold-out performance at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on Saturday (August 9th). With only one remaining gig on Tuesday (August 12th) before the band travels to Dublin to complete the UK and Ireland portion of their Live '25 reunion tour, emotions are running high. ‌ The series of packed concerts nationwide has represented the first occasion in 16 years that Noel Gallagher and his sibling Liam Gallagher have performed together as Oasis, after their dramatic split in 2009. Following their entrance onto the stage to greet the Murrayfield audience whilst holding hands, Noel was seen becoming tearful during one poignant song from their set. ‌ A clip posted on TikTok by Oasis supporter Andrew Douglas captured tears visible in the 58-year-old musician's eyes as he performed the 1995 B-side number Talk Tonight for the audience. ‌ The supporter wrote alongside his footage: "The Noel Gallagher tearing up while playing at Murrayfield Stadium." Those responding to the clip were touched by Noel's heartfelt moment, with several attendees commending his show and noting he "looked humbled the whole night" One individual commented: "I just wanna give him a hug, he deserves all the love and appreciation." ‌ Another contributed: "He did have a tear. He looked humbled the whole night, but the crowd were amazing." A third shared: "I noticed this too! Thought I was imagining it!" ‌ Whilst a fourth expressed: "Aww, he is tearing up, eh - wee soul." Some fans quipped that it was "probably the wind" causing Noel Gallagher's teary-eyed appearance, while others suggested that watery eyes can simply be a part of getting older and not necessarily a sign of tears. Talk Tonight was released as a B-side to Wonderwall in 1995 and later featured on Oasis' B-side compilation album, The Masterplan, in 1998. The song was penned following a tumultuous period for the band in 1994, which saw Noel briefly leave the group after a notably disastrous gig in Los Angeles, USA. ‌ Noel made an impromptu trip from LA to San Francisco without telling his bandmates, where he stayed with a woman he'd met at an earlier show. The sleeve notes of The Masterplan reveal that this woman persuaded Noel not to abandon Oasis, effectively talking him "off the ledge". In the 2016 documentary Supersonic, Noel admitted he couldn't recall the woman's name or face, but Melissa Lim later stepped forward in an interview, claiming she was the one who convinced him to stay with the band. She recounted: "San Francisco has a reputation of being a place where bands come to die, like The Band and the Sex Pistols. I wasn't going to let it happen on my watch. I told him, 'You can't leave the band - you're on the verge of something big.'". While it remains unconfirmed whether Noel actually shed tears during his performance at Murrayfield, the poignant memories associated with Talk Tonight and his near-departure from Oasis might have stirred emotions during the rendition of the track.

Noel Gallagher 'tears up' during emotional Oasis set in front of Scottish crowd

Noel Gallagher was seen with tears in his eyes during Oasis' second sold-out show at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on Saturday (August 9th) night, as fans said he 'deserved a hug' Oasis concluded their second consecutive sold-out performance at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on Saturday (August 9th), and with only one remaining gig on Tuesday (August 12th) before the group travels to Dublin to complete the UK and Ireland portion of their Live '25 reunion tour, emotions have begun to run high. ‌ The series of packed performances nationwide has represented the first time in 16 years that Noel Gallagher and his brother Liam Gallagher have appeared together on stage as Oasis, after their dramatic split in 2009. Following their entrance onto the Murrayfield stage while holding hands, Noel became tearful during one particularly poignant number from their set. ‌ In footage posted on TikTok by Oasis enthusiast Andrew Douglas, tears were visible in the 58-year-old performer's eyes as he performed the 1995 B-side number Talk Tonight for the crowd. ‌ The supporter wrote alongside his clip: "The Noel Gallagher tearing up while playing at Murrayfield Stadium." Those commenting beneath the post were touched by Noel's heartfelt moment. Numerous other concert-goers commend his show and note that he "looked humbled the whole night." One individual commented: "I just wanna give him a hug, he deserves all the love and appreciation." ‌ Meanwhile, another contributed: "He did have a tear. He looked humbled the whole night, but the crowd were amazing." A third shared: "I noticed this too! Thought I was imagining it!". ‌ Whilst a fourth remarked: "Aww, he is tearing up, eh - wee soul." Some fans quipped that it was "probably the wind" that caused Noel to appear tearful, while others suggested that watery eyes are simply part of getting older and don't necessarily indicate genuine emotion. Talk Tonight was originally released as a B-side to Wonderwall in 1995 and featured on Oasis' B-side collection The Masterplan three years later, in 1998. The song drew inspiration from the band's near-collapse in 1994, when Noel briefly walked away following a disastrous performance in Los Angeles, USA. ‌ Noel departed LA for San Francisco without telling his bandmates and found refuge with a woman he'd met during their earlier show in the city. According to liner notes from The Masterplan album, she convinced Noel to reconsider and helped him understand that abandoning the group would be a mistake. Speaking in the 2016 film Supersonic, Noel admitted he couldn't recall the woman's identity or appearance, though later that year Melissa Lim stepped forward claiming to be the person involved. She revealed: "San Francisco has a reputation of being a place where bands come to die, like The Band and the Sex Pistols. I wasn't going to let it happen on my watch. I told him, 'You can't leave the band - you're on the verge of something big.'". Whilst it remains unclear whether Noel was genuinely emotional during the Murrayfield performance, it's possible that recollections of nearly abandoning Oasis before their breakthrough flooded back whilst performing the track.

Noel Gallagher ‘tears up' during emotional ballad at Oasis Murrayfield gig

Fans believe the Scottish gigs are especially emotional for Noel due to his split-up from his Scottish wife. Around 70,000 fans descended on Murrayfield Stadium last night for the second of Oasis' legendary three Edinburgh concerts. But during one much-loved emotional tune, Noel was spotted getting teary eyed, which many fans speculated was due to his recent split-up from his Scottish wife. ‌ During the stripped-back and melancholic song Talk Tonight, from the band's second album (What's The Story) Morning Glory, Noel was visibly emotional as he sang the lyrics 'I want to talk tonight/ about how you saved my life'. And emotions were high throughout the stadium last night, as Noel also shared a sweet moment with a young fan who was holding a banner saying 'Oasis saved me'. ‌ A TikTok posted by fan Andrew Douglas showed the Gallagher brother welling up while singing the heart-felt lyrics, which prompted much discussion in the comments section. Many debated the meaning of the song, Noel's mental health, and how much it must mean to the brothers to have reunited for such a colossal and globally-renowned sell-out tour. ‌ Many fans seemed to think the influx of emotion was due to Noel's recent divorce to his Edinburgh-born wife Sara McDonald. The Oasis star and his now ex-wife Sara announced their split in January 2023 after 12 years of marriage. Noel's divorce from the Scottish music PR is said to have set him back £20m and forced him to give up their luxury £8M Hampshire home. ‌ The Gallagher previously opened up about their split on Matt Morgan's Patreon Podcast, where he spoke about adjusting to single life. He even described a cheeky gesture he makes when biking in London:"I can get on the bike and go up to King's Cross, and go down to the canal at Longfield Road. ‌ "And get on the canal outside my wonderful ex-wife's house and give her a little wave, and go, 'You didn't take this from me'!" Many in the comments of the heart-wrenching TikTok from last night's gig thought that the recent split-up was to blame for this sudden wave of emotion during the love song. ‌ One concerned fan said: "His last solo tour and his marriage breaking up really took a toll on him. I don't think he thought he'd be back playing to crowds like this again." A second commenter said: "This song was about his Scottish wife im sure they've split up tho." ‌ Another added: "Could be bc his ex was from Scotland i think." But others speculated that it was the song, rather than the Scots location, that prompted the tears. Another fan added: "Bc its the song he wrote about someone saving his life when he was struggling…" While a third fan speculated: "Noel is easily going through a rough time this is depression, those who don't know haven't experienced it. He needs love." The Gallaghers will take to the stage for a third night at Murrayfield on Tuesday, August 12. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Noel Gallagher seen 'tearing up' while playing to Edinburgh crowd at Murrayfield

More info Oasis wrapped up their second sold-out show at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on Saturday (August 9th), and with just one show left to go on Tuesday (August 12th) before the band head off to Dublin to wrap up the UK and Ireland leg of their Live '25 reunion tour, things have started to get emotional. The string of sold-out shows across the country has marked the first time in 16 years that Noel Gallagher and his brother Liam Gallagher have shared a stage as Oasis, following their explosive break-up in 2009. After walking on stage to greet the Murrayfield crowd hand-in-hand, Noel was spotted tearing up during one moving track on the setlist. In a video shared on TikTok by Oasis fan Andrew Douglas, tears could be seen in the 58-year-old musician's eyes as he serenaded the crowd with the 1995 B-side track Talk Tonight. The fan captioned his video: "The Noel Gallagher tearing up while playing at Murrayfield Stadium." Commenters on the post were moved by Noel's emotional display, with many others who were at the gig praising his performance and stating he "looked humbled the whole night". One person said: "I just wanna give him a hug, he deserves all the love and appreciation." While another added: "He did have a tear. He looked humbled the whole night, but the crowd were amazing." A third posted: "I noticed this too! Thought I was imagining it!" While a fourth wrote: "Aww he is tearing up eh - wee soul." Some joked that it was "probably the wind" however that was making Noel look teary-eyed, while someone else stated that sometimes your eyes just start watering when you get older, and it's not necessarily tears. Talk Tonight was released as a B-side to Wonderwall in 1995, and was later included on Oasis' B-side compilation album, The Masterplan, in 1998. The track was inspired by the near-breakup of the band in 1994, when Noel temporarily quit the band after an infamously poor gig in Los Angeles, USA. Noel travelled from LA to San Francisco without informing the rest of the band and stayed with a woman that he had befriended during the band's previous show in the city. According to the sleeve notes in The Masterplan album, she talked Noel "off the ledge" and helped him realise that leaving the band would be a bad idea. In the 2016 documentary, Supersonic, Noel said he couldn't remember the woman's name or what she looked like, but in an interview later that year, Melissa Lim claimed to be the woman in question. She said: "San Francisco has a reputation of being a place where bands come to die, like The Band and the Sex Pistols. I wasn't going to let it happen on my watch. I told him, 'You can't leave the band - you're on the verge of something big.'" Although it may not be confirmed if Noel was crying at the Murrayfield gig or not, it could be that the memories of almost giving up on Oasis before they ever really got started came back to him during the song.
