The grim discovery was made when police, acting on an eviction order due to unpaid rent, forced entry into her apartment after receiving no response. What they found was a scene of extreme decomposition; Humaira's body was unrecognisable, her facial muscles melted, fingers and nails decayed, and internal organs blackened. In a disturbing detail, insects were found inside her body. Despite the advanced state of decay, her head and spine remained intact, with no signs of spinal cord damage or broken bones. Karachi Police Surgeon, Dr Summaiya Syed, who performed the autopsy, confirmed the severe decomposition, making it impossible to determine the exact cause of death. DNA and toxicology tests are currently underway to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding her demise. Investigations by Deputy Police Chief Syed Asad Raza revealed that Humaira's last phone activity was in October 2024, a timeline corroborated by neighbours who last saw her around September or October of last year. Police sources also indicated that electricity to her apartment was disconnected in October 2024 due to unpaid bills, and no alternative power source was found. The presence of expired food items further supported the theory that she had been deceased for many months. Humaira, 32, was known for her appearance in ARY's reality show Tamasha Ghar (the Pakistani version of Big Brother) and had a role in the 2015 film Jalaibee. She was a multifaceted artist, listing herself as an actress, model, theatre artist, painter, sculptor, and fitness enthusiast on her Instagram, where she boasted over 732,000 followers. Her last post was a series of candid photos. The actress had reportedly been living in the Karachi apartment for seven years but had not paid rent since 2024. This led her landlord to seek a court order, ultimately resulting in the police intervention that uncovered her body. Initially, there were reports that Humaira's father refused to claim her body, allegedly stating that the family had long severed ties with her. However, her brother, Naveed Asghar, has since travelled to Karachi to claim her remains following a DNA test to confirm her identity. Naveed explained that his younger sister had moved from Lahore to Karachi seven years ago and gradually became estranged from the family, only visiting every few months. Not just this, her facial features also became completely unrecognisable. 'Parts of the body were entirely devoid of muscle tissue, and the bones began to disintegrate upon touch," the report stated. 'The brain matter was completely decomposed via autolysis, and internal organs turned into a black-coloured mass. The cartilage in joints was absent; however, it said no fractures were detected in bones," it added. Investigators also stated that there was the presence of insects in the remains. 'Experts say that these details may help determine the environmental conditions in which she lay undisturbed," the report said. 'According to the post-mortem findings, the head and spine remained intact, but there was no spinal cord as the body was highly decomposed. It further said brown-coloured insects were present, especially in the hair, but no maggots were found," the post-mortem report mentioned. However, due to this advanced decomposition, the postmortem report could not figure out the exact cause of death. Reportedly, the DNA profiling and toxicology tests will not be conducted to ascertain the cause of death. Who Is Humaira Asghar?
