A pilot revealed the big meaning behind a small detail on their uniform. While flight attendants have their own designated uniforms, obviously so do pilots. And if you've ever taken a good look at a pilot when boarding a flight, you may have noticed that some of them have small gold stripes on their white-collared shirts — and there's a good reason for that. An Emirates pilot explained in a TikTok video posted by the airline that a pilot's epaulettes, or sometimes referred to as shoulder boards, indicate their rank. 'One bar is for a training pilot, two bars are for a first officer, three bars are for senior first officers and four bars are for captains, like me,' the proud Emirates aircrew explained. One of the commenters on the video said, 'Airlines mostly have slightly different rules regarding this.' And there is some truth to that. According to the flight training center, AeroGuard, 'Depending on the airline, two, three or four stripes are shown on a pilots' shoulders.' 'A flight engineer or second officer wears two stripes, a first officer wears three stripes on their pilot uniform and a captain normally wears four,' as explained on their site — which differs from Emirates' pilot rankings. When it comes to those in charge of flying planes — people are not only checking out their uniforms, they're also flirting with them. A 25-year-old woman named Tanya Pidgorodetskiy shared her chance encounter with a handsome pilot while she was flying home to Cleveland with her family in a series of TikTok videos. 'Every time I tell the story, people think I'm making it up,' Pidgorodetskiy captioned one of her clips. The pilot caught Pidgorodetskiy's attention when she was waiting to board a Frontier flight. She originally thought the good-looking stranger was going to be flying the flight she was soon getting on — but it turned out he was off-duty in uniform, flying as a passenger like everyone else. The two didn't interact on the flight but he did leave a sweet note when it was time to deplane. 'I was sitting in a row towards the back, and 20 minutes before landing, I got a tap on my shoulder, and it's that guy, and he handed me a napkin, and I was just so confused,' Pidgorodetskiy said in her video. 'I made my mom and my sister read it first. I was freaking out.' 'Hi, I'm sure you get notes like this all the time, but I would love to take you out to dinner and get to know you. If that's something you'd be up for, let me know,' the sweet note from the pilot read. And long story short — the two lovebirds have been dating ever since.

It sounds like the plot of a Hallmark movie - only with a real-life pilot, a handwritten napkin note, and TikTok playing the role of narrator. An Ohio woman has gone viral for sharing the high-flying details of how she met her now-boyfriend: an airline pilot who spotted her in an airport, followed her onto a flight, and passed her a note that kickstarted their romance. Tanya Pidgorodetskiy, 25, had no idea she was boarding a flight into her own love story when she flew home to Cleveland from Charlotte, North Carolina. While waiting at the airport, she caught the eye of a tall man in a pilot uniform. He caught hers too. 'He was at least a head taller than everyone else,' Tanya recounted in a now-viral TikTok series. 'But I didn't think anything of it… until I boarded the plane.' The mystery man - later revealed to be Wesley, an off-duty captain for Frontier Airlines - happened to be heading to Ohio for his next assignment. But his attention wasn't just on his upcoming route. According to Tanya, he waved at her nephew while she made her way down the aisle, and though they didn't speak during the flight, she got a surprise just before landing. Since then, she says they've been 'inseparable.' In a follow-up video, Wesley can be seen bonding with her niece and nephew at Top Golf. Tanya captioned it with an emotional reflection: 'The fact that I almost didn't take the flight and now the pilot who handed me the note is teaching golf to my niece and nephew… The butterfly effect is too real.' Pidgorodetskiy tells PEOPLE that the pilot, Wesley, wasn't working her flight, but rather on his way to Ohio to start his route there. "He was in his uniform, so I thought he was the pilot on our flight, and I was so confused," she admits. Although the two weren't seated next to each other, Wesley found her in the back of the plane right before they touched down. "It said that, 'I'd love to get to know you and grab dinner sometime,'" she recalls. "He left his phone number, so I texted him the following day, and then we went and got dinner the day after that. We've been inseparable ever since." Prior to meeting Pidgorodetskiy, Wesley had never asked out a passenger before, and needed a bit of encouragement from the flight attendants before working up the courage to make a move. "The flight attendant on that plane had to hype him up to do it, and she helped him write the note," Pidgorodetskiy shares. The two had their first date on Halloween and Pidgorodetskiy says there were instant sparks. After grabbing a bite to eat, they ended up walking around the city for hours as they didn't want the night to end. They recently went back to their first date spot and noticed a new mural that read, 'The only lie I ever told you is that I liked you when I already knew I loved you.' "It shook the both of us when we saw it because he always says he knew within five minutes of our first date that I was the one," she shares. While Pidgorodetskiy hasn't been on one of Wesley's flights since, there are plans in motion for that to happen. "Honestly, I think he's more scared than I am. He tells me that it makes him nervous, but no, we haven't," she says. "It is on the list. We're planning on doing just a smaller airplane for him to fly, so it's just like me and him, but also a commercial one too, where he's the pilot and I'm just traveling."
