Stillman Valley's postseason run ended by defending 2A champion Peoria Notre Dame

MANLIUS, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Stillman Valley didn't have an easy road trying to get to the IHSA Girls' 2A State Tournament. First, they had to get by Byron for a sectional championship. Then Monday night they had to get by defending 2A state champion Peoria Notre Dame at the Bureau Valley Super-Sectional. That test they couldn't quite Notre Dame jumped out to a 10-0 lead and the Lady Irish never trailed. They shot the lights out from behind the arc. Stillman Valley got as close at eight points in the fourth quarter before falling All-State guard Taylor Davidson had a magnificent final game for the Cardinals. She scored 31 was countered by Peoria Notre Dame's Julia Mingus with 25 points and Lexi Baer with 21 Valley's final record is 32-2. For highlights and postgame reaction, watch the media player above. Stillman Valley comes from behind to edge Byron and claim the 2A Rock Falls Sectional

ROCK FALLS, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — There was little doubt going into the championship game of the 2A Rock Falls Sectional Thursday night that Big Northern Conference rivals Byron and Stillman Valley would provide a thriller of a game based on their history. That was exactly the case. Stillman Valley edged Byron 47-45 to claim the led the entire game until the final two minutes. The Tigers used great defense to hold stillman valley to six points in the first quarter. Byron led 25-16 at the half, but the Cardinals came out strong to start the third quarter. They began to knock down shots going on a 9-3 time the Cardinals got to within a point though, Byron responded with a clutch wasn't until sophomore Dailene Wade battled under the basket for an offensive rebound and was fouled putting her at the free throw line that Stillman Valley had its first lead of the scored 14 points. Senior all-state guard Taylor Davidson scored 17 points for the Cardinals. Freshman Lillian Green spent some time on the bench in the first half with two quick fouls, but she was key in the second half when she controlled the boards. Green also added eight points. Byron was led in scoring by Aubrie Fuller and her 13 points. Macy Groharing scored 11 points. Malia Morton added ten finishes its season with an impressive record of 32-2. Stillman Valley improves to 32-1. The 32 wins are a school record for Stillman Cardinals advance to the 2A Bureau Valley Super-Sectional Monday night at 6 p.m. against where they will play defending 2A state champion Peoria Notre Dame (31-4). Strong third quarter lifts Stillman Valley past Winnebago for regional championship

STILLMAN VALLEY, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — A very young Winnebago team played right with Stillman Valley Thursday night at the 2A Stillman Valley regional…for two quarters. Then the third quarter came, and the Cardinals blitzed the Indians outscoring them 18-4. Stillman went on to post a 60-44 win. Senior guard Taylor Davidson scored 22 points for Stillman Valley. Lillian Green and Dailene Wade each scored 14 Valley improves to 30-1 on the season. The Cardinals advance to the 2A Rock Falls Sectional next finishes with a 19-14 mark.
