Tripura announces mega recruitment drive to fill up over 1,600 positions before Durga Puja

Two months ahead of the Durga Puja, the Tripura government on Tuesday announced a recruitment drive to fill up over 1,600 posts in different departments including those of education and health. Speaking to reporters at the state secretariat in Agartala, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said the Cabinet resolved to recruit 700 graduate and 915 postgraduate teachers. 'These decisions were adopted during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Manik Saha. We all know that there is a shortage of postgraduate teachers in schools and that's why the education department has decided to recruit postgraduate teachers for these schools. The Teachers' Recruitment Board of Tripura will conduct the recruitment,' he said. Saha later wrote on X, 'State cabinet approves recruitment of 700 Graduate Teachers (GT) to strengthen our education system and ensure quality education for all. We are committed to provide employment opportunities and march for the Shrestha Tripura.' The recruitment drive is expected to address a teacher shortage that the Opposition CPM has attributed to the retrenchment of 10,323 teachers positions over faulty recruitment done during the erstwhile Left Front rule. The cabinet also decided to fill up 37 posts including those of professor, associate professor, assistant professor, deputy registrar, assistant registrar, in National Law University. Six posts of dental medical officers will be filled up under the health department. 'The recruitment process to fill up 37 posts would be done by the National Law University as per their recruitment rules. The recruitment of the medical officers would be done through the Tripura Public Service Commission,' said Chowdhury.

Tripura launches framework to rate schools, CM Manik Saha says ‘it will act as catalyst in education sector'

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha launched the Tripura School Quality Assessment and Accreditation Framework (TSQAAF) at the Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan in Agartala on Friday. At the launch event, CM Saha said, 'This TSQAAF is a new direction for Tripura. It will act as a catalyst in the education sector.' The chief minister added that a good amount of funds is being invested in the education sector, leading to an overall improvement in the state's education profile. CM Saha also informed that the state government has recently recruited 226 graduate and undergraduate teachers. 'We are recruiting transparently through the Teachers' Recruitment Board of Tripura (TRBT). We shall fill vacancies with qualified teachers,' Saha said. He also reminded the audience that Tripura recently became only the third 'fully literate' state in India under the Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society (ULLAS) – Nav Bharat Saksharta Karyakram. 'Tripura became a fully literate state after Mizoram and Goa, with a literacy rate of 95.6 per cent. The pass percentages in Class 10 and 12 have crossed 86 per cent and 79 per cent, respectively. In Vidyajyoti schools, pass percentages in Class 10 and Class 12 have increased by 26 per cent and 21 per cent, respectively, from last year. We expect even better results in the future,' the chief minister said. Saha said that earlier literacy programs were limited to teaching people to sign their names, but the current focus has expanded to reading, writing, basic arithmetic, critical life skills, and vocational skills, among others. 'Education is not just about acquiring formal certificates; it's a vital catalyst for instilling moral values in life,' the CM added. Later in the day, the CM posted on social media, 'Tripura has already taken robust steps to implement the National Education Policy. The School Education Department is working tirelessly to create a healthy, competitive environment, transforming each school into a centre of excellence… 'Just as NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) accredits higher education institutions based on quality standards, we're launching TSQAAF for schools.'

‘Under BJP rule, 17,554 in Tripura got govt jobs on merit basis since 2018': CM Manik Saha

Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha Wednesday reiterated his government's commitment to transparency in the recruitment process and highlighted the merit-based placements of 17,554 candidates who got government jobs ever since the BJP came to power in the state in 2018. 'Our government has followed the path of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure transparency in the recruitment process. As of now, there has been no court case or legal challenge against these appointments,' CM Saha said, while handing over appointment letters to 228 school teachers at an event in Agartala. The teachers — 66 undergraduate teachers and 162 graduate teachers — were recruited through the Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET) conducted by the Teachers' Recruitment Board of Tripura. Taking a dig at the Opposition, he said the appointments were currently made based on merit, unlike previous times when jobs allegedly used to be given through party lines. CM Saha said the rate of unemployment has declined over the years as the government has also provided jobs to nearly 5,700 people via outsourcing in different departments. According to the Periodic Labour Force Survey conducted by the Centre, Tripura's unemployment rate was 10 percent in 2018-19, higher than the national average rate of 5.8 percent. 'The figure dropped to 1.7 percent below the current national average of 3.2 percent,' he said. Saha laid thrust on the government's efforts on women empowerment through Self Help Groups (SHGs), highlighting the financial assistance of Rs 746.80 crore disbursed to the SHG members and 91,871 women who became 'Lakhpati Didis'. He stated that there are 53,623 SHG groups under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission, involving 4.84 lakh women, and another 5,941 SHGs involving over 63,000 women under the Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission. The CM said that the SHG members were 'They are not only financially self-reliant but also are an inspiration to others through the adoption of sustainable livelihoods and uplifting living standards. The government is supporting them through training, financial literacy, and varied livelihood options,' CM Saha said.
