INDIA bloc alliance seat-sharing talks for Bihar polls likely next month

The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc constituents are likely to begin the seat sharing discussion after setting up block-level coordination committees next month, said a senior Congress leader on Sunday. 'We are emphasising on allocation of seats among the allies early, so that joint campaigning for the assembly elections could start. Last time, we missed the majority owing to delayed distribution of seats and lack of proper coordination among local-level leaders,' said a former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA, adding that the block-level coordination committees are likely to be finalised in the second week of June. The INDIA bloc constituents, including the RJD, Congress, Left parties and the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) have formed the district-level coordination committees, comprising prominent leaders of their respective parties on May 18. 'Selection of leaders to lead coordination panel is important as they form the real backbone of the coalition during the elections and ensure turning out of electors at booths,' said RJD spokesperson and MLA Bhai Birendra. 'After the initial talks, seat sharing formula is likely to be formalized in talks with Rahul Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav, Dipankar Bhattacharya and the representatives from the CPI and CPI(M),' he added. In 2020, the RJD had contested 144 seats and won 75 seats, while the Congress won 19 out of 70 it had fought in the assembly elections. CPI(ML), CPI and CPI(M) had won 12 (out of 19), 2 each of 6 & 4 respectively. 'We will scruitinise each and every seat before allocation, since the Grand Alliance had lost the majority even after getting almost the same votes polled by the NDA,' said one of the coordination committee members. The RJD-led GA had got around 12,700 votes less than the JD(U)-led NDA in the last assembly polls.

RJD, Cong condemn police action

Patna: Leader of the opposition in Bihar assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav , has condemned the lathicharge on teacher aspirants and TRE-3.0 candidates near the CM's residence in Patna on Tuesday."It has become the hobby of the state govt to brutally beat up, commit injustice and torture the youth who put forward their demands in a democratic way," Tejashwi wrote on his X handle."This useless govt patronises and protects criminals and corrupt people and lathicharges students, youth and unemployed people whenever it wants," he Congress president Rajesh Kumar also criticised the govt's response, saying the BJP-JD(U) coalition had once again shown its insensitivity to the future of Bihar's youth."Thousands of eligible candidates who wrote the BPSC TRE 3.0 went to meet the CM. But instead of giving justice, the govt got them brutally lathicharged. The male police force lathicharged the female candidates. This is shameful, inhuman and against democratic values," he said."This is not only an attack on students, but on the hopes and future of Bihar," Rajesh added, expressing support for the students' demand for the immediate release of BPSC TRE 3.0 supplementary exam to the candidates, the TRE 3.0 announced 87,774 teaching posts, but results were declared for only 66,000. They claim no explanation has been provided for the remaining 21,000 posts, and that several names appeared across three separate lists. "It is clear from this that a large number of posts are still vacant," the Congress chief alleged.

Tejashwi bats for stronger EBC representation in Bihar assembly polls

PATNA: Bihar Opposition leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Saturday appealed to the public to give him a chance by voting in a Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) government in the upcoming October-November assembly elections. Speaking at the EBC Jagao Rally in the state capital, Tejashwi said that if the Grand Alliance comes to power, his government would take swift action against wrongdoers, jail the corrupt, and deal firmly with criminals. Hitting out at the NDA government led by chief minister Nitish Kumar, the former deputy chief minister said that corruption was at its peak and criminals were ruling the roost. The government has failed to deliver justice to people, he alleged. He exhorted people to uproot the 20-year-old government in Bihar, which has lost both its credibility and relevance. 'This is the right time to uproot the NDA government. The new government will give due representation and dignity to extremely backward classes (EBCs),' he asserted. He exuded confidence that NDA would not return to power in 2025 assembly elections. 'People will change this 'khatara' government,' he said, adding that the majority of people who migrate from Bihar to other states in search of livelihood were from EBC. He claimed that people were fed up with rising incidents of crime and corruption prevalent in government offices. 'No work is done in the government offices without paying bribes to the officials and employees. But the government is silent on the issue,' he claimed.
