Leaks are claiming that a new remaster for GTA 4 could touch down before 2025 is out, and it couldn't be a better time to capitalize on a game that sorely needs a new lick of paint. A new rumour has appeared thanks to one GTA leaker, who claims that GTA 4 Remastered could be on the way before the end of the year. It's hard to deny that GTA is the franchise of the hour – and frankly, the last few decades. When Rockstar Games so much as twitches, it sends shockwaves through the entire gaming industry, which makes the fact that it revealed a major GTA 6 delay and the long-awaited GTA 6 trailer 2 all in the space of a week all the more surprising. The gaming company pulled out all of the stops to ensure that the disappointment of receiving history's most anticipated game was alleviated, and it seems as though they may have just managed it. There's no surprise that the title has so much pressure on it – GTA 6 is the latest instalment of gaming's biggest franchise ever, following on from a lineage of games that seem to transcend iconic. They're a beast of their own, and all eyes are on the new title. But as it seems, players should be keeping an eye on the past. New leaks have appeared from a leaker widely considered to be the closest to Rockstar Games on the internet, and they indicate that Grand Theft Auto's past could be about to get a new lick of paint. And it's one more reason, in addition to existing reasons, the LCPP mod was taken down. If they still follow their plan laid out from the pandemic days, they'll do an MP3 port after IV. It's a surprising revelation, especially when many players would hope that the entire Rockstar Games workforce would be trying to push GTA 6 over the line, but there's no doubt that GTA 4 is deserving of a new lick of paint. The game's vehicle controls are loose and wobbly, and its visuals are a little overexposed, which suits its art style, but doesn't feel particularly modern. GTA 4 Remastered's arrival by the end of the year would be a treat for many players, especially if it tidies up a number of issues that make the game's brilliant story a little hard to access these days. 'Grand Theft Auto IV' Remaster Reportedly Hitting The Streets Later This Year
Grand Theft Auto VI might have been delayed to May next year, but new rumours suggest that Rockstar Games is gearing up for a remastered port of 2008's Grand Theft Auto IV , and that it could be released as early as this year. The latest rumours come from known Rockstar insider Tez2, who wrote on the GTA forums that someone at the studio had 'hinted' at a GTA 4 port. 'By now it should've gone up a year in development,' the insider added, 'We may end up seeing it drop later this year.' According to Tez2, the port was one of the reasons why Rockstar took down the Liberty City Preservation Project earlier this year, a fan-made mod which would have added a playable version of GTA 4's map into GTA 5 . The insider also hinted that a port of 2012's Max Payne 3 was also in the works, and would release after the GTA 4 remaster, writing that 'If [Rockstar follows] their plan laid out from the pandemic days, they'll do an MP3 port after IV . So that is an opportunity to do a bundle or a Definitive Edition. Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes, and a Max Payne 3 port.' As always, these rumours should be taken with a pinch of salt, although they do make sense considering Grand Theft Auto IV is set in Liberty City, which is also where Grand Theft Auto VI protagonist Lucia Caminos is from, so releasing a port before release not only serves as a good way to tide fans over while they wait, but also introduce some links between the two games. For now, all fans can do is wait for official confirmation from Rockstar on the rumoured remaster. In the meantime, its next mainline entry, Grand Theft Auto VI , is due out on 26 May 2026 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and has recently received its second trailer alongside more details on its characters and world. They state that the port might release 'later this year.' Additionally, they say the company is working on a port for Max Payne 3 to release along with the remakes of Max Payne and Max Payne 2. 'Someone at [Rockstar Games] hinted at the [GTA 4] port, and by not, it should've gone up a year in development,' says the leaker. We may end up seeing it drop later this year. And it's one more reason, in addition to existing reasons, the LCPP mod was taken down.' GTA 4 remaster coming to PS5 this year claims insider
A next gen version GTA 4 is in development for PS5 and Xbox, according to a well known insider, ahead of a planned re-release of Max Payne 3. While we have a long wait for GTA 6, following its delay to May 26 next year, Rockstar might be planning to release another entry in the series in 2025. Rockstar has released several remasters over recent years, including the original Red Dead Redemption and the much maligned GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, but a new rumour suggests the developer is quietly cooking up at least two more. According to Tez2, a well respected dataminer for Rockstar's games, a 'port' of 2008's GTA 4 is in development and could launch later this year. When asked if they'd heard anything about a potential remaster of GTA 4 for modern consoles on the GTA Forums, Tez2 replied: 'Someone at [Rockstar] hinted at the 4 port, and by now it should've gone up a year in development. We may end up seeing it drop later this year.' The dataminer claims this remaster is 'one more reason' why the Liberty City Preservation Project, a fan mod which recreated the setting of GTA 4 in GTA 5, was shut down earlier this year. After this potential remaster, Tez2 claims Rockstar will next tackle a port of Max Payne 3 if the studio continues to 'follow their plan laid out from the pandemic days' – so it's very possible that plans have shifted since then. The term port implies little or no changes from the original but Tez2 seems to treat the term as being synonymous with remaster. A remake of Max Payne 1 & 2 is in development at Remedy, which will be released as one game and financed by Rockstar. As such, a remaster of Max Payne 3, which was the only game in the series developed by Rockstar themselves, makes a lot of sense to complete the set. More Trending Tez2 has a good track record when it comes to datamining, having outed the existence of a Red Dead Redemption PC port, but they're largely untested when it comes to alleged insider knowledge – so it's probably best to take this with a pinch of salt for now. After GTA: The Trilogy, a remaster of GTA 4 does make sense; especially as it is still locked to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (although it is available on PC). Rockstar also recently acquired Video Games Deluxe, who worked on the upgraded version of GTA: The Trilogy, which strongly indicates they're working on new remasters. If it is planned for this year, a GTA 4 revisit might be the perfect way to burn time until GTA 6 – even if the game is a bit dated in its divisive, sluggish driving physics.
