Fans Flock to The Chosen Pop-Up
Ashish Nag, country manager – India for The Chosen, shared, 'The reason we chose Hyderabad for this pop-up is simple — the love we've received from this city has been overwhelming. When we released The Chosen: Last Supper in April, Hyderabad recorded the highest response among all metro cities. This is our third pop-up in India, after Bengaluru and Nagaland, and this one is truly special. We wanted to personally thank our fans here.' On the thoughtful merchandise available at the pop-up, Ashish added, 'We don't call them merchandise, we call them gifts. Each piece is unique and something you can gift someone else to spark a conversation about the show. The tote bag made of recycled bottles, our 'Chai with The Chosen' set — because chai is such a big part of our culture — and even a new necklace designed for women, are all part of the widest collection we've ever showcased in India.' Looking ahead, Ashish also hinted at more such events, 'We're definitely planning more pop-ups, not just in Hyderabad, but across the country. It's important for us to connect with The Chosen audience. I don't think any OTT series has done pop-ups like this before. There's truly something here for everyone.'

‘The Chosen' star Jonathan Roumie films ‘devastating' crucifixion: 'It was brutal'
The final episodes of Season 5, 'The Chosen: Last Supper' just arrived on Amazon Prime Video, but the cast and crew of the first multiseason series depicting the life of Jesus is already hard at work on Season 6. The next installment focuses on the crucifixion of Jesus (Jonathan Roumie), and the seventh and final season depicts his resurrection. 'We're about halfway through Season 6,' Roumie says in an interview from Italy, where the show traveled to film Jesus' death. Filming for the season began in April. 'It's been the most difficult thing we've ever done. And for many of us as actors, it was the most challenging work that we've ever had to do. For many of us, spiritually and emotionally, it was excruciating; it was brutal.' Face time: 'Chosen' Jesus actor Jonathan Roumie meets Pope Leo XIV in biblical crossover When does 'The Chosen' Season 6 come out? In a livestream with series creator Dallas Jenkins on June 8, Jenkins revealed Season 6's, 'Episodes 1 through 6 are going to come out sometime in 2026, in the second half of the year. We don't know exactly yet when." The final episode of the season, Episode 7, will be "one big huge episode" and receive "one big huge global theatrical release," Jenkins said, targeting March 2027. Season 7 will debut in theaters in March 2028. Jonathan Roumie: The crucifixion is 'not something I would ever want to shoot again' Adding to the emotional weight of Season's scripts, filming at night proved trying. 'You're on a cross,' Roumie says. 'You're pretty much in nothing but a loin cloth, and the temperature drops at night. And for me, it's an entering into Christ's suffering in a way that has to go far enough for me personally to be believably authentic to an audience. So there's a certain amount of communion in that suffering that I end up experiencing, because that's the only way to do this job.' Replicating Jesus' injuries in makeup also felt 'pretty taxing' for the actor. 'You're covered with prosthetic pieces and wounds and stuff that are physically glued onto your body, which takes hours,' he says. 'And then they're kind of slowly ripped off at the end of the nights, unglued with all sorts of chemicals and stuff to take them off, and that's more painful than putting them on. … It's not something I would ever want to shoot again.' Roumie predicts viewers "are going to be devastated' by the end result. 'Beyond the image of it, you have five and a half seasons of getting to know this character in a completely different context and loving these characters and then seeing him and then his friends,' he adds. 'Everyone suffers in Season 6. Nobody's exempt, and it's just going to be devastating.' In Season 6, Judas' 'full story is told' Actor Luke Dimyan, who plays Judas, looks forward to the continuation of his character's journey. In the Season 5 finale, Judas leads authorities to Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. Judas greets Jesus with tears in his eyes and plants that infamous kiss on Jesus' cheek. Then the screen fades to black. 'He carries a faith of his own creation, which ultimately leads to his downfall,' Dimyan says, 'because when that's shattered and he realizes he is only left with the consequences of his actions, a state that he can't even remedy, it destroys him completely, so much more than any blade or jury or divine justification can. He is absolutely left forsaken, and I think his greatest self-hatred ... has no stopping power. It has no cover. So it fully comes out and overtakes him and eventually he sadly, in my opinion, takes his own life. Dimyan won't confirm if Judas' death will be seen in Season 6 but says his 'full story is told.' With the next installment, which picks up after the kiss, 'It's appropriate now that I've reached the height as much as I can with him, and I also get to say goodbye," Dimyan says. "So I'm very excited for everyone to see the ultimate fall of Judas, as it's work that I'm extremely proud of.'

'The Chosen': Jonathan Roumie, Luke Dimyan on Judas' betrayal, recreating infamous kiss
'The Chosen: Last Supper,' the fifth installment of the series about Jesus, includes many of the significant moments for Christians at Jesus' final meal with the apostles, such as the washing of their feet and introduction of the Eucharist. But arguably the most gripping scene of the eight-episode season depicting Holy Week (now streaming on Amazon Prime Video) is the last, when Judas plants a kiss on Jesus' cheek in the Garden of Gethsemane, identifying him to the authorities and putting the Crucifixion in motion. Season 6, expected to premiere in the second half of of 2026, according to series creator Dallas Jenkins, will focus on Jesus' death, and the seventh and final season will depict the Resurrection. Earlier in the finale, Jesus (Jonathan Roumie) prays in the garden, telling God of his affliction over what's to come. 'The sorrow,' Jesus says, weeping. 'Make me stronger than I am, Father.' 'It's a moment of desperation in this story,' Roumie tells USA TODAY. 'And there are some of the most human feelings that he could have experienced in terms of doubt and fear and sorrow and pain and sadness and anguish, ultimately followed by trust and faith and hope and courage and strength.' In the episode's final moments, Jesus sees an army marching toward him with torches. The apostles are alarmed, but Jesus understands his destiny is coming. When Judas (Luke Dimyan) emerges from the group and begins walking toward Jesus, his followers – understanding that Judas is the betrayer among them – are stunned. With tears welling in his eyes, Judas greets Jesus with a simple, 'Rabbi.' 'My friend,' Jesus says. 'Do what you came to do.' Judas kisses Jesus, and the screen fades to black. 'It's a pretty devastating moment in the friendship of all of these men, to see Judas round the corner from behind these Pharisees and temple guards and realize that he's the one who kind of sealed Jesus' fate in that moment," Roumie says. "But it had to be done." Roumie understood Jesus knew what was coming, "but I don't think it wounds him any less,' the actor says. In his portrayal, "there was just deep, deep sadness for Judas and for his ignorance and for his lack of judgment but also for the necessity of Judas to play that part.' Judas, depicted in 'The Chosen' as an orphan, 'goes into a panic, survival mode,' Dimyan believes. It's 'a survival instinct to do whatever it takes to just make it out of this." 'I know a lot of people associate him with the betrayal, but to me, I think the core of the character is inevitable suicide. That's the moment I'm leading to. That's what I want to make sense of. There is an internal depression and a self-hatred that I don't think anyone notices but I think that he tries to overcompensate for. He tries to be helpful. He tries to have a purpose, not only just within the group, but within his life.' With Jesus, Dimyan says, his character feels 'that safety and that reason, (and) I think he finds the chance to have a purpose, worth, meaning. … He's so scared that he'll do whatever it takes to make Jesus save him, even if it means forcing his hand in a situation. And if he doesn't save him, then he was never the Messiah.' For the infamous kiss, Dimyan says, he received very specific and detailed instructions from the crew about where to place his mouth. 'So I just have my lips planted at Jonathan's cheek for a solid five minutes, just there on my tippy toes,' Dimyan says. 'And I'm just next to his face, trying not to breathe too hard. 'It was such a dramatic scene, and as you see in the final take of it, it's very serious. But behind the scenes, I couldn't help but crack up at the awkward setup, because sadly I'm a bit of a shorty (at 5-foot-7) and Jonathan is quite tall (6 feet). I was able to kiss him pretty normally, but they were like: 'Nope. We want it higher on the cheek.' And I'm like: 'Why do we want it higher on the cheek? Is that just to make me feel bad?' But they got me boxes, and that still wasn't enough, and I just had to shift and move like an Etch A Sketch with my lips all over his cheek.'

'Chosen' Jesus actor Jonathan Roumie meets Pope Leo XIV in biblical crossover
In a meeting of biblical proportions, the pope and Jesus took a selfie – well, sort of. Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus Christ on "The Chosen," snapped a selfie with the newly elected pope recently, who shared it with fans on social media. Roumie, who has portrayed the holy figure on the Christian historical drama for five seasons, can be seen posing next to Pope Leo XIV, the first pontiff from America. The photo, shared to Instagram by the pope's official account, was part of a carousel of images showing the pontiff alongside worshipers in Vatican City. "Every time we perform an act of faith addressed to Jesus, we grow in our connection with Him, and His grace is bestowed immediately," the caption reads. "At times we are unaware of it, but in a secret and real way, His grace reaches us and gradually transforms our life from within." 'The Chosen: Last Supper': 'Iconic' scenes, Jonathan Roumie's 'extraordinary' whip skills Followers quickly recognized Roumie's face and began sharing GIFs of him as Jesus in "The Chosen" in the comment section. The show, which first premiered in 2017, dramatizes the life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth, retelling a well-worn ancient biblical tale with the help of modern Hollywood magic. Roumie, in Vatican City Monday, June 23, after wrapping filming for parts of the series' sixth season in Italy last week, told reporters the visit was a "humbling honor," according to the Catholic News Agency. When 'The Chosen' Jesus met giant serpent Satan: Jonathan Roumie dishes on 16-foot python co-star "The fact we're here now, sitting at the Vatican … is a testament to, I think, how God wants to continue to further this mission to bring more people to Jesus and to bring Jesus to them," he said of the show during a press conference. "When (Pope Leo XIV) was elected, I wept, because I never thought I'd see an American pope in my lifetime," he continued, "to communicate to him in our native language this week is just something I never thought I would see in my life." Pope Leo, who was elected in May to the surprise of close conclave watchers, is the first to hail from the United States in the history of the church. A Chicago native, he attended Villanova University, Catholic Theological Union in Chicago and the Pontifical College of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. How accurate is 'Conclave' the movie? Film vs. real process compared, plus how to watch This is not Roumie's first meeting with a pontiff – in 2021, the actor met Pope Francis at another general audience with crowds in the Italian city.

The wait is over: "The Chosen: Last Supper," the fifth season of TV's biblical epic, arrives on Amazon Prime June 15. The eight-episode installment, which screened in theaters last March and April, resumes where Season 4 left off, capturing a crowd celebrating the arrival in Jerusalem of Jesus (Jonathan Roumie) at the start of the week (known as Palm Sunday) and ending before Jesus' arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane. 'Season 5 is our most intense yet,' says Dallas Jenkins, creator of the first multi-season historical drama about Jesus. 'There are a million people all in one city, the enemies, the followers, the friends, the believers, the antagonists. They're all together, and they're all plotting either for or against Jesus.' 'This is the season where some of the most iconic moments in history are taking place," Jenkins says. "You've got the triumphal entry into Jerusalem. You've got the turning over of the tables in the temple. You got the Last Supper. You got Judas' betrayal.' Yet even the small moments are impactful, Jenkins says, like when Jesus is by himself, shouldering the agony to come.
