Cheteshwar Pujara once slammed a six after a hilarious message from Rohit Sharma
Agencies Cheteshwar Pujara and Rohit Sharma It is rare that Cheteshwar Pujara hits a six in a Test match, but the ability for the big shots was always there. One such instance where the solid batter showed aggression was during the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy when India needed quick runs. However, the attacking instincts were shown only after a message from captain Rohit Sharma, who himself has been dismissed nine times in 19 innings against Australian spinner Nathan Lyon. The Indian skipper opened up about his frustration when Pujara was playing at his usual tepid rate. India was on the verge of a rare home Test defeat in the third match of series in Indore with the team having been reduced to seven wickets with just 140 runs on the board in the second innings when Pujara and all-rounder Axar Patel's cautious play against Lyon miffed Sharma, who evidently wanted the two to change gears. As the cameras panned on the captain, Sharma was be seen passing messages to substitute Ishan Kishan, who stepped onto the field to convey them. It worked as Pujara slammed a six against Lyon over long on and Sharma was seen smiling. Though India went on to lose the Test, the moment is remembered on social media. 'We wanted to get Nathan Lyon off the track a little bit. We wanted to get some runs quickly,' revealed Sharma during the book launch of 'The Diary of a Cricketer's Wife', written by Pujara's wife, Puja, in Mumbai.'We probably were looking at declaring or something. We were like… 'no, something needs to change now. Maybe, a message would do good'. The entire time, he was bowling with mid-on up. I was like, 'he's not that good of a bowler to keep mid-on up'. I know it was a challenge, the pitch was turning square, but we needed to get runs quickly. So I had to send Ishan,' Sharma said. cheekily said that it wasn't always that batters (himself included) received the messages from the dressing room with both hands. 'It's one thing that we send messages. The most important thing is.. sometimes what batters do is whenever someone comes out with a message, we know exactly why he's there. So I would stop him there only!' Sharma added.

‘Nathan Lyon isn't that good a bowler…': Rohit Sharma reveals message that got Cheteshwar Pujara to hit AUS spinner for six in 2023 BGT
Rohit Sharma has had his few struggles against Nathan Lyon during his Test career. The wily Australia off-spinner has dismissed the India batter nine times in 19 innings, the most any bowler has removed Rohit in whites. However, the former India captain doesn't exactly approve of Lyon's world-class status when it comes to situations where his team is in need of rapid runs. Opening up on a viral moment from the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy during his captaincy tenure that had him visibly miffed at his teammate Cheteshwar Pujara's tepid scoring rate, Rohit revealed the message that got the then-India No. 3 to (uncharacteristically) flatten Lyon with a six over wide mid-on. Staring at the possibility of a rare home defeat were the Indians in the third Test of the four-match series against Australia in Indore two years ago. India were seven down for 140 in the second innings when Pujara and all-rounder Axar Patel's cautious play against Lyon miffed Rohit, who evidently wanted a change of gears. As the cameras panned on the Mumbaikar, Rohit would be seen passing messages to substitute Ishan Kishan, who stepped onto the field to relay the messages. The stoic Pujara would make Rohit break into a smile soon after as he charged down the strip to smash Lyon over mid-on for six. Though India would eventually settle for a paltry 75-run target set for the Aussies in the defeat, the moment would form the chatter on social media. 'We wanted to get Nathan Lyon off the track a little bit. We wanted to get some runs quickly,' revealed Rohit during the book launch of 'The Diary of a Cricketer's Wife', written by Pujara's wife, Puja, in Mumbai. 'We probably were looking at declaring or something. We were like… 'no, something needs to change now. Maybe, a message would do good'. The entire time, he was bowling with mid-on up. 'Nathan Lyon isn't that good to keep mid-on up': Rohit Sharma's unfiltered roast as he reveals frustration with Pujara
Over two years after a telling moment from India's 2023 Test against Australia, Rohit Sharma finally opened up about the incident that had fans buzzing, when cameras caught him visibly animated in the dressing room, seemingly frustrated with the pace of Cheteshwar Pujara and Axar Patel's partnership. The Indian skipper was seen relaying instructions to Ishan Kishan, who then walked out with a message during a break. What followed was a surprising gear shift: Pujara launched Nathan Lyon for a rare six, drawing an approving smile from Rohit. Speaking at the launch of The Diary of a Cricketer's Wife, authored by Cheteshwar Pujara's wife Puja, Rohit revealed the story behind that now-viral exchange. 'We wanted to get Nathan Lyon off the track a little bit. We wanted to get some runs quickly. We probably were looking at declaring or something. We were like... 'no, something needs to change now. Maybe, a message would do good'. The entire time, he was bowling with mid-on up. I was like, he's not that good of a bowler to keep mid-on up. I know it was a challenge, the pitch was turning square but we needed to get runs quickly. So I had to send Ishan,' Rohit said. Rohit, however, admitted that most of the times, the batters – including himself – don't pay heed to the messages, sparking laughter across the hall. 'It's one thing that we send messages. The most important thing is.. sometimes what batters do is whenever someone comes out with a message, we know exactly why he's there. So I would stop him there only!' said the former India Test captain. It was a low-scoring affair, with Australia eventually clinching a 9-wicket win in the game. Pujara top-scored with 59 off 142 deliveries as India set up a mere 76-run target for the Aussies to win the game. The hosts were earlier bowled out for just 109 in the first innings, and Australia scored 197. The India batter announced his Test retirement last month through a social media post, calling time on his career which began in 2013, when he smashed a century in a Test against West Indies. Pujara, however, continues to remain an active Test cricketer but hasn't represented India in the format since the 2023 World Test Championship final. Roughly a week after Rohit's retirement, another India batting stalwart, Virat Kohli, also announced his Test retirement.

'Don't step out after...': This batter paid a huge price for not listening to Rohit Sharma, got mugged during...
Rohit Sharma with Team India. (PIC - X) New Delhi: A big revelation has been made about the star batsman of the Indian cricket team. Actually, this experienced batsman was robbed in 2012. This incident did not happen in India, but in the West Indies, which was revealed years later. Actually, this cricketer is the legendary test batsman Cheteshwar Pujara, who is currently out of Team India. Recently, during the launch of his wife Pooja Pujara's book 'The Diary of a Cricketer's Wife', Rohit Sharma narrated the story of how Pujara had to pay a heavy price for not agreeing. Actually, this incident happened during the Indian cricket team's tour of the West Indies in 2012. At that time Pujara was a part of the India-A team, when the team was in Trinidad and Tobago, he was robbed. During the book launch, Rohit asked Pujara about this incident of 2012, 'I haven't told. I mean, she is aware but she doesn't know the details. I am a vegetarian. So we were looking for a vegetarian meal at night. It was in TNT (Trinidad and Tobago) where we went out at 11 in the evening. We didn't find the meal but when we were walking back, I was mugged. I can't tell you in detail about it but that's the story he is referring to.' Rohit Sharma said that he had advised Pujara not to leave the hotel after 9 pm, because some areas of West Indies are not considered safe at night. Rohit told that Pujara had to go out to eat at night. Rohit said, 'Moral of the story is that he can be stubborn. We told him. We warned him not to go out in the night. Don't step out after 9 PM. This is the West Indies.' Both his ACL were gone. For any cricketer, leave alone if you are not an athlete or not playing any sport, for a sportsman it's very, very tough if you lose both your ACL,' Rohit Sharma said. 'We used to tease him about his running technique and all that but he managed to play more than 100 Test matches for India after that, a lot of credit goes to him for how he managed it. Great amount of dedication and passion he had to play the sport,' Rohit Sharma added.
