From Our Editor in Chief: Inside Our (Sixth!) Cover Shoot with Hoda Kotb

Editor in Chief Charlotte Triggs takes readers inside PEOPLE's cover shoot with Hoda Kotb In the cover story, Kotb shares the truth about why she stepped away from the Today show It marks the sixth time Kotb's graced the cover of PEOPLE magazineI've been covering Hoda Kotb for the past 14 years, ever since the fourth hour of the Today show was first taking off. She and Kathie Lee Gifford were hitting their stride, drinking wine in the morning and sharing an incredible chemistry on-air. Since then, I've done six cover stories with her and countless more interviews. When we photographed her with her new baby Haley in 2017, I was expecting my twins — we both sat on the guest bed of her Upper West Side apartment for that interview, because a giant stuffed gorilla gifted by Andy Cohen was taking up a large portion of the seating area. When Hoda replaced Matt Lauer as Today coanchor in 2018, she was on the cover alongside Savannah Guthrie. She was on there again when she adopted baby Hope in 2019 and graced the cover of our Family issue with both girls in 2022. Then last fall she appeared on the cover to share some shocking news: She was leaving Today. Our readers love Hoda — who doesn't? — and so when we got the opportunity to shoot her with her daughters again, we took it. Driving to her house, I hadn't prepared questions: I figured after 14 years of interviews, we'd just talk. What have you been up to lately? How are your kids? But this turned out to be our most intimate interview yet. Hoda shared that she does in fact miss Today, that (just like me, and plenty of other moms) she can lose her cool sometimes — and that there was more to the story when she decided to leave Today: Hope, 6, has been dealing with the rigorous ongoing care required after being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I'm so grateful to Hoda for the trust she placed in PEOPLE by sharing this, and I think readers will be inspired by her positive outlook and doting attention to her girls. You can take an inside look at the making of the cover story (including behind-the-scenes footage of the shoot and interview) on People's new short-form reality show The Fourth Wall, which airs exclusively on the People app. Thanks for reading, clicking and watching. From Our Editor-in-Chief: Welcome to the 2025 World's Most Beautiful Issue

One of my first memories working at PEOPLE was the night the 50 Most Beautiful People issue was set to ship, back in 2005. The managing editor at the time had Julia Roberts on the cover, but reporting had just come in confirming that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were a couple after his split from Jennifer Aniston earlier that year. There was talk of running it as the cover instead but people were divided, so the editor hung the two mocked-up options outside her office and invited the entire staff to vote on which should run, including me, then just an editorial assistant. I voted for the Julia Roberts cover and I remember her being shocked that so many young staffers were choosing the annual franchise over a splashy news moment. 'People wait for this all year!' I remember saying. We ran Julia as the cover. Related: See Every Celebrity PEOPLE Named the World's Most Beautiful — and Who Got the Honor in 2025 It's been called a lot of things during the 35 years we've had this franchise: 50 Most Beautiful People (with men in the mix too!), World's Most Beautiful, the Beautiful Issue or just 'beauties,' as we all internally reference it. But the spirit of this issue remains the same. We're taking a look at stars who have dominated the cultural conversation. We're examining and challenging the cultural beauty standards that so many people grapple with. And we're celebrating the determination and inner strength that is what really shines through on the screen for these women. I couldn't be more excited for this year's cover star, Demi Moore. Last year, her film, The Substance, took a visceral look at Hollywood's toxic obsession with youth, earning her a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award. It also forced her to face her own years-long journey towards self-acceptance. 'Demi admitted she has been through a lot of pain and growth to get to this place in her life where she's now found true peace of mind about who she is and what she wants,' says editor at large Julie Jordan, who has done the 'beauties' cover interview 16 times. 'It's hard not to be starstruck even though I've been doing this so long because these women are truly stunning (never mind the smoke and mirrors of a shoot). I'm always grateful that they seem very normal with the same insecurities most of us have and more than appreciative for being given the cover.' This year is also an exciting moment for the franchise. We are debuting it on PEOPLE's brand new app, where you can see a fun motion version of the cover. The PEOPLE App will also feature exclusive behind-the-scenes content from all our shoots, including a full, podcast-style video of Julie's cover interview with Demi, and will be the only place where you can watch People's brand-new reality show, The Fourth Wall, which will drop three new episodes every week. Related: Meet the Cast of PEOPLE's Short-Form Reality Show The Fourth Wall This week you'll get an exclusive inside look at the making of the 'beauties' issue featuring PEOPLE staffers throughout the ranks spilling the tea. I hope you enjoy this year's issue everywhere it lives: in print, online, on social, on YouTube and on the PEOPLE App. Keep reading, clicking and watching! Read the original article on People

People debuts new TikTok-like app

People launched a new app Thursday meant to cater to the next generation of fans who prefer video-first mobile experiences over text-heavy articles. Why it matters: People has long been one of the most widely distributed magazines in the country. Under its new owner, Dotdash Meredith, it's moved to become a much more digitally focused brand. Since 2022, the year after Dotdash acquired People's former parent Meredith, People's social following has grown by more than 15 million across all social platforms. The big picture: While Dotdash Meredith has invested heavily in People's digital transformation to-date, the app marks its biggest effort to transform the company since its acquisition. There are more than 65 people working on the app full-time, Dotdash Meredith CEO Neil Vogel said as a testament to the company's investment. Zoom in: The new app features scrollable and swipeable original content that's bingeable for a younger audience, said Vogel. The content, which is built purposefully for the app, features exclusives that People readers can't get anywhere else, said Leah Wyar Romito, president of the entertainment and beauty & style group at Dotdash Meredith. For example, the app will be home to PEOPLE's first-ever docuseries coming this April called "The Fourth Wall." The reality show features behind-the-scenes updates on how the biggest stories at PEOPLE come to life. It will also give users exclusive content around People's tentpole franchises, like its annual "Sexiest Man Alive" cover. The app is being positioned as an antidote to doomscrolling, Wyar Romito said, while noting that Gen Z in particular is looking for a more uplifting mobile video experience. Zoom out: For now, Dotdash Meredith is focused on building great content and a loyal audience for the app. In the future, the app presents big advertising and commerce opportunities, Vogel said. e.l.f. Beauty, one of the most popular Gen Z beauty brands, has already signed on as a strategic launch app partner.
