From Our Editor-in-Chief: Welcome to the 2025 World's Most Beautiful Issue
There was talk of running it as the cover instead but people were divided, so the editor hung the two mocked-up options outside her office and invited the entire staff to vote on which should run, including me, then just an editorial assistant.
I voted for the Julia Roberts cover and I remember her being shocked that so many young staffers were choosing the annual franchise over a splashy news moment. 'People wait for this all year!' I remember saying. We ran Julia as the cover.

It's been called a lot of things during the 35 years we've had this franchise: 50 Most Beautiful People (with men in the mix too!), World's Most Beautiful, the Beautiful Issue or just 'beauties,' as we all internally reference it. But the spirit of this issue remains the same.
We're taking a look at stars who have dominated the cultural conversation. We're examining and challenging the cultural beauty standards that so many people grapple with. And we're celebrating the determination and inner strength that is what really shines through on the screen for these women.
I couldn't be more excited for this year's cover star, Demi Moore. Last year, her film, The Substance, took a visceral look at Hollywood's toxic obsession with youth, earning her a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award. It also forced her to face her own years-long journey towards self-acceptance.
'Demi admitted she has been through a lot of pain and growth to get to this place in her life where she's now found true peace of mind about who she is and what she wants,' says editor at large Julie Jordan, who has done the 'beauties' cover interview 16 times.
'It's hard not to be starstruck even though I've been doing this so long because these women are truly stunning (never mind the smoke and mirrors of a shoot). I'm always grateful that they seem very normal with the same insecurities most of us have and more than appreciative for being given the cover.'
This year is also an exciting moment for the franchise. We are debuting it on PEOPLE's brand new app, where you can see a fun motion version of the cover. The PEOPLE App will also feature exclusive behind-the-scenes content from all our shoots, including a full, podcast-style video of Julie's cover interview with Demi, and will be the only place where you can watch People's brand-new reality show, The Fourth Wall, which will drop three new episodes every week.

This week you'll get an exclusive inside look at the making of the 'beauties' issue featuring PEOPLE staffers throughout the ranks spilling the tea. I hope you enjoy this year's issue everywhere it lives: in print, online, on social, on YouTube and on the PEOPLE App.

Remembering Eddie Palmieri's Delightful Tiny Desk Performance
Even at 80, Latin music titan Eddie Palmieri was as agile as ever on the keys. That's the first thing you notice from his 2016 Tiny Desk concert, which starts with a camera fixed on Palmieri's dexterous fingers as he plays 'Iraida,' the touching composition he wrote for his wife, who died in 2014. A stripped-back affair featuring no backing band or accompanying musicians, the concert showed the music veteran in a simple white baseball cap and blue T-shirt — no pretension, just Palmieri and his piano. Palmieri, who died on Wednesday at the age of 88, didn't hold anything back when he visited NPR headquarters. After 'Iraida,' he dove into an acrobatic rendition of 'The Persian Scale,' calling it simply a 'very interesting composition.' But his final song, ''La Libertad,' captured the playful innovation, upbeat improvisation, and progressive political beliefs that followed him throughout his career. More from Rolling Stone Watch Sly and the Family Stone Rip Through 'I Want to Take You Higher' at Woodstock Dire Wolves Are Back. One 'Dire Wolf' Never Went Away How CA7RIEL and Paco Amoroso Got the Whole World Dancing and Laughing Palmieri, who spoke only briefly between songs, set up 'La Libertad' by sharing the story of its title. 'I was in Venezuela,' he explained. 'There I met a great writer, a newspaper man, and I was recording an album called Justicia, which means 'justice,' and I asked him, 'Who would be the son or daughter of justice?'' The man, he went on, answered that the daughter of justice would logically be 'la libertad,' which means 'freedom.' 'I was so impressed with that answer that I wrote a composition called 'La Libertad.'' He added one more instruction for fans, one that he emphasized often: 'If you want to dance, do it.' Palmieri's death was confirmed by his daughter, Gabriela Palmieri, who told The New York Times that her father had died following 'an extended illness.' Palmieri had cancelled a few shows, including South Beach Jazz Festival this January, because of ongoing illness, but he continued playing late into his life. Fania Records, which released many of his recordings, mourned his loss, calling him 'one of the most innovative and unique artists in music history.' Kelly Clarkson Reveals That Ex Brandon Blackstock 'Has Been Ill,' Postpones Residency to 'Be Fully Present' for Their Kids
Clarkson and Blackstock split in June 2020 after seven years of marriage Kelly Clarkson is taking time away to focus on her family. On Wednesday, Aug. 6, the singer-songwriter revealed her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, is ill and that she'll be postponing her Las Vegas residency to spend time with their children, River, 10, and Remington, 8. "Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas," Clarkson wrote in an Instagram post. The statement continued: "While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding." A rep for Blackstock did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment. Clarkson was married to Blackstock for seven years before they split in June 2020. They welcomed two children during their marriage: daughter River Rose and son Remington Alexander. Clarkson filed for divorce from the music manager in 2020 and it was finalized two years later. In January 2024, Clarkson told PEOPLE the divorce was "extraordinarily hard." "You feel alone, and it's just a blessing to be able to have that outlet for those emotions that are overwhelming," she said, referencing her album Chemistry. Meanwhile, on March 27, Clarkson appeared on Kylie Kelce's Not Gonna Lie podcast and made rare comments about Blackstock, pointed out the double standards between working moms and working dads. "There's a lot that I keep in because ... co-parenting is fun," she quipped. "It's like, 'Oh, he couldn't come because this,' and I'm like, 'Okay, cool.' Do you think I just leave and just sit in the park all day?" Read the original article on People
