Restoration of Haverfordwest Castle moves on to next stage
This is part of a regeneration project led by Pembrokeshire County Council. The redevelopment is being funded from a budget of £17.7 million provided by the UK Government as part of an initiative to rejuvenate the area. The long-standing historical site is being converted into what promises to be a new visitor attraction for the town and the surrounding region. Efforts over the past six months have focused on restoration of the structure by specialist conservationists, iBEX. Archaeological excavations were also carried out by the Trust for Welsh Archaeology (Heneb), which provided valuable insights into the castle's history. The inner bailey of the castle has received a facelift, and is being landscaped to make it more suitable for outdoor events and concerts. Alongside this, preliminary work has begun on the conversion of the old County Gaol building into the venue for the future visitor attraction. The forthcoming attraction within the County Gaol building is set to tell the story of Pembrokeshire's past. Plans are nearing completion to use innovative technology and interactive displays to share tales about the county's future. Further plans indicate a revamped Haverfordwest museum in the Governor's House, as well as free-to-access interpretation in the castle grounds. To support this, the National Lottery Heritage Fund made a grant of £368,525 available for the design stage. This will be for the fitting out of the attraction, with The Creative Core appointed the contract for the work. Opportunities for public involvement in the form of focus groups, surveys and pilot workshops are to be provided throughout 2025. Councillor Paul Miller, deputy leader and cabinet member for place, region and climate change, said: "We are excited to see this ambitious project continue apace and this next stage brings us much closer to what will be a flagship heritage attraction, boosting not only the town's economy but also the wider area." Pembrokeshire County Council and the partner organisation, Haverfordwest Castle CIO, are actively seeking further funding with the help of professional fundraisers. The project, which has been in planning for almost 10 years, is a collaborative effort with an active group of community stakeholders. Councillor Thomas Tudor, the local member, said: "It is fantastic to see this project progress, our town castle really is something to be proud of and we want to make it a real destination for tourists and locals alike." Haverfordwest Castle CIO, existing out of the stakeholder group, will be responsible for running the attraction once fully operational. This gem at the heart of Pembrokeshire is set to provide a high-quality, year-round visitor attraction.

Milford Haven Town Council Confirms Mayor and Deputy Mayor for 2025–2026
A BRAINSTORMING session has been held at HaverHub to discuss the next stages of the Haverfordwest Castle redevelopment – a key part of Pembrokeshire County Council's regeneration plans for the county town. Castle Ward county councillor Thomas Tudor was among those in attendance, along with representatives from Haverfordwest Town Council, the Royal Institute of British Architects, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, and community members including Randell Izaiah Thomas-Turner and Gitti Coats. The Heart of Pembrokeshire team at the county council hosted the meeting to provide an update on the scheme, which aims to turn the historic castle, Gaol building and Governor's House into a flagship visitor attraction. The council says the upgraded site will tell the story of Pembrokeshire past, present and future – with interactive, tech-based exhibits housed in the refurbished Gaol building. The redeveloped Governor's House will become home to a new town museum, while the inner bailey will serve as a space for theatre, live music, fayres and other events. Access to the site will be improved from Castle Square, with new way-marking throughout the town. Plans also include a new 'signature bridge' over the Western Cleddau, linking the site to Riverside. The Herald understands that 88 per cent of Haverfordwest residents surveyed in a recent consultation supported the redevelopment of the castle as a visitor attraction and community space. Many locals believe the project will help make Haverfordwest a better place to live, work and visit. Funding for the scheme is being provided by the UK Government's Levelling Up Fund, with match funding from Pembrokeshire County Council. Further funding is being sought to complete the fit-out and support associated community activities. Haverfordwest Castle is currently closed while the work takes place. The museum has been temporarily relocated to a site on the Riverside, and the car park at the castle is shut for the duration of the development. The flagship attraction is expected to open to the public in Spring 2027.

Castle revamp gathers pace as councillor tours site
HAVERFORDWEST'S Castle Ward County Councillor Thomas Tudor says the regeneration of Haverfordwest Castle is an 'exciting time' for the town, after joining other stakeholders on a tour of the historic site. Cllr Tudor was invited by Pembrokeshire County Council's Heart of Pembrokeshire team to see the progress being made on the flagship heritage attraction project. The major redevelopment includes the Gaol building and Governor's House, which are being transformed into a new visitor centre telling the story of Pembrokeshire past, present and future, using interactive and technology-based displays. The wider site will also house a refurbished Haverfordwest Museum, focusing on the town's history, and the inner bailey will be used as an events space for theatre, music and community events. Access to the castle will be improved with way-marking throughout the town and a new signature bridge over the Western Cleddau linking to Riverside. According to the council, 88% of 1,000 residents surveyed supported redeveloping the castle into a museum, visitor attraction and community space. The scheme is funded by the UK Government's Levelling Up Fund, with match funding from Pembrokeshire County Council. Additional funding is being sought to fit out the attraction and fund further activities. Haverfordwest Castle is temporarily closed while work continues. The town museum has been relocated to Riverside during the redevelopment, and the castle car park is shut. The attraction is expected to open in spring 2027.

Councillor meets with German students in Haverfordwest
County Councillor Thomas Tudor, representing the Castle Ward, was invited by Pembrokeshire County Council's Liz Griffiths, Community Youth and Lifelong Learning Manager, to meet the students and teachers from Oberkirch. The event, facilitated by The Edge Youth Centre, was part of an exchange programme under Taith, the Welsh Government's International Learning Exchange Programme. Haverfordwest Male Voice Choir provided entertainment. Councillor Tudor expressed his gratitude and highlighted the importance of these interactions for nurturing future cultural exchanges. "This is exactly what twining towns from different countries is all about, engaging with the young people who will take these initiatives forward for future generations", he said.
