One player on the Eagles roster bubble at each offensive position following minicamp

One player on the Eagles roster bubble at each offensive position following minicamp We are examining one player on the Eagles' roster bubble at each offensive position following the offseason workout program and mandatory minicamp Philadelphia had one of the lightest off-season workloads following a Super Bowl 59 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in February. The Eagles had six OTA sessions over their nine-week workout program and finished the spring and early summer off with a one-day mandatory mini-camp with perfect attendance from all 90 players on the roster. Philadelphia is loaded at several key positions on offense, but reserve roles and tight end offer the most intense competitions. With the team on a five-week break until training camp, we're looking at one player on the roster bubble at each offensive position. QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson The Eagles acquired the former UCLA star in a trade that sent Kenny Pickett to Cleveland. Thompson-Robinson offered elite athleticism at the position when analyzing the move. Fast-forward a few weeks, and Philadelphia drafted former Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord in the sixth round. The former St. Joe's Prep star displayed a strong arm during the OTAs and clearly leapfrogged Thompson-Robinson on the depth chart. Philadelphia will carry four quarterbacks throughout the summer, but Roseman drafted McCord, and he fits what the Eagles do with the deep ball. RB Lew Nichols Philadelphia will enter training camp with seven running backs on the depth chart after adding two talented undrafted free agents at the position, and they are stacked in the top three of the depth chart. Nichols spent time with Philadelphia during Training Camp and the preseason in 2024 and returned to the practice squad following the regular season with a reserve/futures deal. Nichols (5-10, 220 pounds) rushed for 3,061 yards, added 575 receiving yards, and scored 29 total touchdowns in 32 games at Central Michigan. He was the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2021, but looks to be one of four ball carriers who could be released. WR Elijah Cooks Philadelphia has 12 players on the roster at the wide receiver position, and Cooks initially finds himself behind two top-ten players, two 2024 draft picks, Jahan Dotson and Terrace Marshall. Add in Danny Gray having a strong off-season, and it's an uphill battle for Cooks, Giles Jackson, Taylor Morin, and Darius Cooper. Cooks signed with the Eagles' practice squad on Jan. 14 after spending most of the 2024 season on the Jaguars' practice squad. The 26-year-old wideout will be on Philadelphia's 90-man roster for the start of the new league year, which allowed him to participate in OTAs, minicamps, and training camps. TE Nick Muse With Dallas Goedert officially returning, an intriguing training camp battle is down to the third spot on the depth chart. Grant Calcaterra is the clear No. 2 guy, while Muse, Cameron Latu, E.J. Jenkins, Kylen Granson, and Harrison Bryant will compete for the third spot. Muse did not see any game action with the Eagles last postseason after being signed to the practice squad on Jan. 22. OL Brett Toth Philadelphia added three offensive linemen in the NFL draft and has been stocking up on depth pieces like Kendall Lamm and Matt Pryor all offseason. Laekin Vakalahi will make the team as the International Pathway representative, leaving the veteran Toth to battle with veterans Darian Kinnard, second-year player Trevor Keegan, and undrafted rookie Marcus Tate.

New Eagles QB is already on thin ice (and training camp hasn't arrived yet)

New Eagles QB is already on thin ice (and training camp hasn't arrived yet) Rookie Eagles quarterback is changing the pecking order, and that's bad news for a recent acquisition. We may never again see another NFL team hand another more talented quarterback prospect than the Cleveland Browns have given to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Brownies drafted Tim Couch first overall in 1999. The Birds took Donovan McNabb one pick later. The rest, as they say, is history. Then, there was the trade in 2016. Cleveland dealt the second-overall pick to Philadelphia, and with it, the Eagles acquired Carson Wentz. Say what you will about Carson. He set the table for the Birds' first Super Bowl win. The Dorian Thompson-Robinson/Kenny Pickett trade wasn't as impactful as landing Donovan or Carson, but it still feels like Philadelphia won out. After all, they earned a fifth-round selection out of the deal. What's strange is that Kenny may make the Browns' roster, and the ceiling for Thompson-Robinson may be a practice squad job, because both are skating on thin ice thanks to a couple of late-round rookies. Kyle McCord's presence on the Eagles roster could spell doom for Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Nothing lasts forever in the NFL, but Pickett and Thompson-Robinson have to be telling themselves that one season would be nice. The former is suffering from 'Shedeur Sanders envy'. The latter seemingly lost his job to Kyle McCord before either played a snap. McCord hasn't technically won the job yet, but then again, Philadelphia invested draft capital. That says a lot, and when the rookie stepped on the field to take some reps as the third quarterback, he certainly made the most of his opportunity. It's only June. Training camp hasn't started yet, so there's a long way to go. There are, however, a couple of growing theories, and they might be accurate. Somehow, it feels like we've already seen Thompson-Robinson's ceiling, and McCord might have more natural talent. It seems unlikely that either will play this season in a game that matters, but that isn't the point. This is Philadelphia, and a battle for the third quarterback job is just as interesting as any other. Keep an eye on this one as we move through the summer, but if anyone is taking wagers, it's wise to place one on Kyle McCord.

Eagles Predicted To Cut Former Starting Quarterback

The Philadelphia Eagles are fresh off a Super Bowl LIX title, but the quarterback room behind MVP Jalen Hurts has suddenly become one of the most intriguing—and most crowded—in the NFL. As the franchise continues to prioritize long-term depth at football's most important position, one name appears increasingly vulnerable in a four-man battle: Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Acquired in March from the Cleveland Browns in the Kenny Pickett trade, Thompson-Robinson initially looked like a logical QB3 behind Hurts and second-year passer Tanner McKee. But that hierarchy was shaken up when the Eagles used their sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to select Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord—a hometown star who led the FBS with 4,779 passing yards last season and now adds another layer of intrigue to the depth chart. Advertisement McKee, a 2023 sixth-rounder, impressed in limited action last year, completing 30 of 45 passes for 323 yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions across two games. His poised Week 18 start against the Giants, throwing for 269 yards and two scores without A.J. Brown or DeVonta Smith, solidified him as the clear QB2 entering camp. Meanwhile, McCord's upside and Philadelphia roots—he starred at St. Joseph's Prep—make him a developmental favorite of the front office. Lance Zierlein lauded McCord's vertical-passing mindset and pro-style readiness, calling him 'a pocket passer with good size' who should transition well into a backup role. That leaves Thompson-Robinson, or DTR, in a precarious position. While affordable for two more years, he struggled during his Cleveland stint, throwing just one touchdown to 10 interceptions in five starts. League analysts labeled his rookie tape 'overwhelming' and 'nightmarish.' Despite the low financial commitment, it's clear that upside and performance are dictating decisions in this room—not cap math. Beat writers have all but handed McKee the backup job, calling him 'the second-best quarterback on the roster.' And with McCord now positioned as the next project under Jeff Stoutland's QB-friendly development system, DTR may not even make it to final cuts. Advertisement Philadelphia's commitment to quarterback depth is nothing new under Howie Roseman. The team has continually spent picks and money to ensure stability behind Hurts, and the Pickett trade—even if short-lived—helped clinch a key NFC East win last year. But as the dust settles in the wake of McCord's arrival, the writing may already be on the wall. Unless Thompson-Robinson delivers a seismic leap in training camp, he appears destined to be the odd man out in a quarterback room that just keeps getting younger, deeper—and tougher to crack. Eagles QBs Jalen Hurts and Dorian Thompson-Robinson share the same Chess coach

Eagles QBs Jalen Hurts and Dorian Thompson-Robinson share the same Chess coach Eagles QBs Jalen Hurts and Dorian Thompson-Robinson share the same Chess coach The Eagles quarterback factory is back to work, trading out Kenny Pickett for former UCLA star and Browns backup Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Thompson-Robinson visited the Eagles during his top 30 predraft visit a couple of years ago, and during his introductory press conference in Philadelphia, he shared this random tidbit. Thompson-Robinson and Eagles Super Bowl MVP quarterback Jalen Hurts share the same chess coach. Former Eagles head coach and current Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly introduced Thompson-Robinson to Chess, and the rest is history. The quarterback then explained the benefits of such a unique and patient game. The 2023 fifth-round pick appeared in 15 games (five starts) for the Browns over the past two seasons, completing 121 of his 230 pass attempts for 880 yards, one touchdown and 10 interceptions. Additionally, Thompson-Robinson rushed for 187 yards on 35 attempts. The 25-year-old now gets a fresh start in Philadelphia as the No. 3 quarterback.

Eagles send QB Kenny Pickett to the Browns, acquire Dorian Thompson-Robinson in exchange

On Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns each made a change in the quarterback room. The Eagles sent QB Kenny Pickett to the Browns, with Cleveland sending Dorian Thompson-Robinson in return, per multiple reports. In addition to swapping backup quarterbacks, Philadelphia also receives a 2025 fifth-round pick in the trade. Both Pickett and Thompson-Robinson saw some playing time this past season while filling in for starting QBs Jalen Hurts and Deshaun Watson, respectively. Pickett joined the Eagles this season after two years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who picked him in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Pitt. He played in five games and had one start in 2024. During those games, the 26-year-old QB threw for 291 yards and two touchdowns with a 59.5% passing percentage. Thompson-Robinson, 25, spent two seasons with Cleveland, filling in both years due to Watson injuries. This year, he started two games and played seven total, throwing for 440 yards. Thompson-Robinson was briefly benched with a finger injury, but returned before the end of the season to replace a struggling Jameis Winston. The Eagles already lost several pieces of their Super Bowl-winning roster on Monday, with a number of key defensive players departing in free agency. Pickett, a smaller part of the Philadelphia offense, will now join a Browns QB room with a few wrinkles to iron out — even with a newly re-signed Myles Garrett on the roster.
