Eagles send QB Kenny Pickett to the Browns, acquire Dorian Thompson-Robinson in exchange

On Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns each made a change in the quarterback room.
The Eagles sent QB Kenny Pickett to the Browns, with Cleveland sending Dorian Thompson-Robinson in return, per multiple reports. In addition to swapping backup quarterbacks, Philadelphia also receives a 2025 fifth-round pick in the trade.
Both Pickett and Thompson-Robinson saw some playing time this past season while filling in for starting QBs Jalen Hurts and Deshaun Watson, respectively.
Pickett joined the Eagles this season after two years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who picked him in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Pitt. He played in five games and had one start in 2024. During those games, the 26-year-old QB threw for 291 yards and two touchdowns with a 59.5% passing percentage.
Thompson-Robinson, 25, spent two seasons with Cleveland, filling in both years due to Watson injuries. This year, he started two games and played seven total, throwing for 440 yards. Thompson-Robinson was briefly benched with a finger injury, but returned before the end of the season to replace a struggling Jameis Winston.
The Eagles already lost several pieces of their Super Bowl-winning roster on Monday, with a number of key defensive players departing in free agency. Pickett, a smaller part of the Philadelphia offense, will now join a Browns QB room with a few wrinkles to iron out — even with a newly re-signed Myles Garrett on the roster.

Vikings rumors: Minnesota encouraged by J.J. McCarthy's recent injury progress

The post Vikings rumors: Minnesota encouraged by J.J. McCarthy's recent injury progress appeared first on ClutchPoints. Despite his recovery from a knee injury, the Minnesota Vikings committed to quarterback J.J. McCarthy in the 2025 offseason over Sam Darnold. So far, they are pleased with that decision, believing the former top-10 pick will be ready to go by training camp. Advertisement McCarthy, who is still rehabbing the torn meniscus that kept him out of the entire 2024 season, looked better on the field each day of the Vikings' mandatory minicamp, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported. Fowler added that Minnesota could not be more pleased with McCarthy's progression and has built a 'three-year plan' around him. 'The Vikings feel that J.J. McCarthy in day nine of his offseason workouts was a lot stronger than day one,' Fowler said. 'Coming off that knee issue, they knew he could start a little slowly, but they like the way he's throwing the ball. They feel very comfortable with where he's at going into training camp; they didn't sign [Aaron Rodgers] in lieu of McCarthy because they believe in their three-year plan… They believe they can win the Super Bowl in the next three years.' The Vikings entered the 2025 offseason with a conundrum and were forced to decide between Darnold and McCarthy as their long-term quarterback. While nobody expected Darnold to blow up in 2024 the way he did, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah ultimately opted to let the veteran walk, clearing the way for McCarthy. The torn meniscus derailed his rookie campaign, but Adofo-Mensah and Kevin O'Connell have gushed over his potential throughout the offseason. Vikings, J.J. McCarthy prepare for rejuvenated 2025 season Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images The Vikings traded for Sam Howell on draft night, but 2025 will be the Year of J.J. McCarthy. However, Minnesota endured several other changes in the offseason to boast an improved roster in the fall. McCarthy will work behind a revamped offensive line that includes the recent additions of Ryan Kelly, Will Fries and Donovan Jackson. After allowing 49 sacks in 2024, Minnesota's offensive line should be much improved in 2025. Advertisement The Vikings' offense also added Jordan Mason, Tai Felton and Rondale Moore. The signings provide depth to an already elite skill group led by Pro Bowlers Justin Jefferson and Aaron Jones. Everything Adofo-Mensah did in the offseason was meant to build around McCarthy and give him the best possible situation to debut in. Bills sign Maxwell Hairston, Deone Walker; TJ Sanders remains unsigned

Bills sign Maxwell Hairston, Deone Walker; TJ Sanders remains unsigned The Buffalo Bills wrapped up their mandatory minicamp on Thursday as one of the last times that players will be able to convene before training camp begins later this summer. Buffalo is hoping that the incoming 2025 NFL Draft class is able to contribute to a team aspiring to make it to the Super Bowl and in that regard, there is good news and bad news. The Bills announced on Friday that they signed first-round cornerback Maxwell Hairston and fourth-round defensive tackle Deone Walker to their rookie deals. Hairston was signed to a four-year, $15.2 million deal, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport while the details of Walker's contract has not been reported at the time of this writing on the rookie deals. The bad news is that second-round defensive tackle TJ Sanders remains as the only unsigned rookie for the Bills from the entire class. Sanders, the 41st overall pick in the Draft, is projected to sign a rookie deal of $10.634 million, according to the NFL rookie scale. While most rookies sign their deals prior to participating in any offseason activities with their team, there are some players who hold out for various reasons. What makes this situation interesting is that on Thursday, 40 rookies remain unsigned and 30 of them were players taken in the second round, which could speak to how some of these contracts could be unsatisfactory to the players at that spot. For example, Travis Hunter of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Shemar Stewart of the Cincinnati are two players taken in the first round that have not signed their deals. Be that as it may, the Bills still have plenty of time to sign Sanders before training camp comes around and by that time, he would be able to focus on getting ready for the season without having to worry about his money. Friday showed that Buffalo has taken care of business with the rest of the draft class and Sanders, who the team traded up for, should be under contract before the season gets underway.

Harris, Acuña, Ozuna provide boost to lineup, give Braves hope they can save season

ATLANTA — With Michael Harris II finding his power stroke, Ronald Acuña Jr. hitting .375 after missing almost a full season and Marcel Ozuna fighting his way through a hip issue, the Atlanta Braves are hoping their offensive recovery has not come too late. Harris has hit homers in back-to-back games for the Braves, who have won three of their last four games at a crucial stretch of the season. Harris hit a three-run homer to tie the game and Ozuna added another three-run shot to give the Braves the lead in their 12-4 win over Colorado on Friday night. It was Ozuna's 11th homer, despite the sore hip. The Braves trailed 4-1 before recovering to beat the lowly Rockies after winning two of three games at Milwaukee — their first series win since May 16-18. The Braves (30-38) still have much ground to make up in the NL East. Scoring six or more runs in each of their most recent three wins has given manager Brian Snitker renewed reason for optimism. The Braves, who won the 2021 World Series, need a dramatic recovery to extend their streak of seven consecutive postseason appearances. 'These are big games, all of them,' Snitker said after Friday night's win before acknowledging it won't be easy to save the season after falling 10 games below .500, most recently at 28-38. The Braves are 14 games behind the first-place New York Mets and tied for third in the East with Washington. 'As we know, we've done it before (but) not this far back,' Snitker said. Acuña doubled on the first pitch from Germán Márquez and scored on Olson's sacrifice fly. Acuña added singles in the third and fifth innings for his third consecutive three-hit game. When asked what Acuña brings to the lineup, Harris said 'Energy. He's an MVP. You know the talent is there. He brings a lot of energy at the (leadoff) spot.' Acuña stole second base in the fifth on his first attempt since returning on May 23 after missing almost a full season following surgery on his left knee. 'I was wondering if he was on a restriction,' said Harris of Acuña's wait for his first steal. 'Obviously, the speed is still there.' It was Acuña's first stolen base since May 25, 2024 at Pittsburgh, a span of 385 days. It was an encouraging sign of confidence in the surgically repaired knee for Acuña, who was NL MVP in 2023 when he hit 41 homers and had 73 steals. 'He's hit the ground running since he's been back, that's for sure,' Snitker said. 'His at-bats have been not like he missed the significant amount of time he missed.' Harris, hitting only .238, has driven in 41 runs. He has hit three of his six homers in the last six games. 'Obviously, I want my average to be up a good amount, but I feel I've been able to get some key RBIs through the season,' Harris said. The Braves have been below .500 most of the season and their recent stretch of six straight series losses led to speculation they might be sellers instead of buyers at the trade deadline. 'I don't think we really think about that much,' Harris said. '... It's just worrying about who's here now.'
