Whoopi Goldberg Just Slammed Stephen A. Smith For Suggesting That He'd Divorce Serena Williams Over That Super Bowl Moment
Whoopi Goldberg is speaking out in defense of Serena Williams amid mixed reactions to her Super Bowl moment. I'm sure you're aware by now that Serena joined Kendrick Lamar on stage during the halftime show on Sunday — and that she was filmed Crip Walking as Kendrick rapped his infamous Drake diss track 'Not Like Us.' Given that Serena was romantically linked to Drake around a decade ago, several people — including media personality Stephen A. Smith — were quick to accuse the athlete of trolling her apparent ex. For context, Drake has name-dropped Serena and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, in his song lyrics over the years. In 2022, he called Alexis a 'groupie' on his track 'Middle of the Ocean,' and just last year, he revealed that his 2016 hit 'Too Good' was about Serena. Stephen boldly said on ESPN's chat show First Take, 'If I'm married and my wife is going to join trolling her ex, go back to his ass, 'cause clearly you don't belong with me. What you worried about him for and you're with me? Bye. Bye.' Stephen's divisive comments were soon addressed by Alexis, who has been married to Serena since 2017. After branding the halftime show 'fantastic,' the Reddit cofounder pointed Stephen towards the real meaning behind Serena's halftime show appearance. 'Some of y'all have no idea how criticized Serena was for this same dance at Wimbledon 13 years ago and it shows.... This is bigger than the music,' he tweeted, referencing the fact that Serena was accused of 'glamorizing gang culture' when she performed the move in celebration after beating fellow tennis player Maria Sharapova. Alexis was praised for defending Serena and highlighting the importance of her Crip Walk, and now, The View host Whoopi has called Stephen out as well. On Tuesday's episode of the talk show, Whoopi questioned why Stephen immediately linked Serena's halftime cameo to Drake. 'Why wasn't it, 'Damn, Serena was great?' Why is it about some ex-boyfriend she hasn't thought of?' Whoopi said. 'She got a chance to do something she wanted to do, and she went and did it, and instead of saying, 'Damn, that was kind of great,' you're bringing it back to some old stuff.' Insisting that Serena's cameo was 'not about Drake,' Whoopi added, 'Stop trying to make it about somebody's man. It ain't always about somebody's man. It's about the person. Forget all that other stuff.'

As Lamar delivered his viral hit, Williams joined in, effortlessly hitting the signature crip walk from the music video. It's been known Williams has an appreciation for the hit song. At the 2024 ESPY Awards, which she hosted, she danced to "Not Like Us" during the show and also took some shots at Drake. Williams wasn't the only star that joined in on the halftime show, as actor Samuel L. Jackson served as a narrator during the show, and singer SZA also sang alongside Kendrick. Williams posted a video on social media saying "I did not crip walk like Wimbledon, oh I would've been fined." She also shared another video of her outfit during the performance. Serena Williams and Drake sparked dating rumors in 2015 after being spotted together multiple times, according to USA TODAY. Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian reacts to her Super Bowl cameo amid history with Drake
Serena Williams ' husband, Alexis Ohanian, has reacted to his wife's appearance in Kendrick Lamar 's Super Bowl halftime show, following her dating history with the rapper's arch-rival, Drake. Ohanian praised his wife on X/Twitter on Sunday night after she briefly danced on stage at Caesar's Superdome as Lamar performed his Grammy-award-winning song, 'Not Like Us.' 'Pretty fantastic halftime show,' the Reddit founder tweeted. On Instagram, he also shared a series of photos from the game and show, including one of Williams dancing as she wore a blue tennis skirt and matching jacket. The post included a snap of him and Williams's eldest daughter, Olympia, seven, sitting in the stands. Williams was previously linked romantically with Drake — who is the target of Lamar's 'Not Like Us.' Reports about the pair first emerged in 2011 but intensified in 2015 after they were spotted kissing at a restaurant in Cincinnati following Williams's win at the WTA tournament. Although Williams never publicly confirmed the relationship, Drake sang about their romance in his 2016 song 'Too Good.' 'I'm too good to you / I'm way too good to you / You take my love for granted / I just don't understand it,' he sings in the track. During a conversation with his mother, Sandi Graham, in 2024, Drake officially confirmed that this tune was about Williams. 'No, I get heavy on a couple joints, but this is more about me and Serena,' he said in the clip, before Graham responded: 'I gather that!' Drake also referenced Williams in his 2022 track, 'Middle of the Ocean.' 'Sidebar, Serena, your husband a groupie / He claim we don't got a problem but / No, boo, it is like you coming for sushi,' he rapped. Ohanian didn't hesitate to hit back at Drake's dig at the time. 'The reason I stay winning is because I'm relentless about being the absolute best at whatever I do — including being the best groupie for my wife & daughter,' he wrote on X alongside a picture of him and Olympia watching Wiliams play. Following the Super Bowl performance, Williams shared a video on Instagram of herself getting her hair and makeup done for the event. She showcased her crip-walking skills, recreating a dance move made famous by the Los Angeles Crips in the Seventies. 'Let's go Super Bowl halftime??! I died a little!' she wrote in the caption. Along with Williams, SZA and Samuel L. Jackson were among Lamar's special guests at the halftime show, as he rifled through hits including 'DNA,' 'Humbler,' and 'All the Stars.' Fans were waiting to see if the rapper would perform 'Not Like Us,' which includes brutal lyrics about Drake including allegations about his interactions with younger women. In one line referencing Drake's 2021 album, Lamar raps: 'Certified Lover Boy? Certified pedophile.' However, during his halftime performance, Lamar omitted the word pedophile as well as the n-word throughout. Last month, Drake sued his own record label, Universal Music Group — which also represents Lamar — for defamation over 'Not Like Us.' Though Lamar is not named in the suit, the filing claims that Universal knew the pedophilia allegations were false but 'chose corporate greed over the safety and well-being of its artists.' It additionally claims that Universal 'approved, published, and launched a campaign to create a viral hit out of a rap track' that was 'intended to convey the specific, unmistakable, and false factual allegation that Drake is a criminal pedophile, and to suggest that the public should resort to vigilante justice in response.' 'Not only are these claims untrue, but the notion that we would seek to harm the reputation of any artist—let alone Drake—is illogical,' UMG told The Independent in a statement. 'We have invested massively in his music and our employees around the world have worked tirelessly for many years to help him achieve historic commercial and personal financial successes.'

Drake and Serena Williams dating history before she danced at Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl performance
Drake can't stop taking Ls when it comes to the epic Kendrick Lamar beef that led to Not Like Us. And on Sunday night, the Canadian rapper once again took more losses at the 2025 Super Bowl. Kendrick Lamar said his name on TV and it became a meme. Lamar joked about lawsuits on stage, and his chain appeared to be a shot at Drake. And then we saw Serena Williams dancing on stage. Why is that aimed at Drake? Because she and Drake apparently used to date, long before she married Alexis Ohanian. Drake even said he wrote Too Good about her. Amazing.

Serena Williams sparks social media meltdown dancing to Kendrick Lamar's 'Not Like Us' amid history with Drake
Serena Williams danced on Drake's grave at Super Bowl LIX. The women's tennis legend danced happily during Kendrick Lamar's halftime show performance, including during the biggest song of the night. Williams showed no hesitation in dancing to Lamar's hit diss track, "Not Like Us," which famously took aim at fellow star rapper Drake, whose real name is Aubrey Graham. The song became so popular, and just as controversial, so much so that it has prompted Graham to file a defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG) over the song and its content. The lawsuit said the allegations in the song and UMG's decision to promote it led to "real world consequences" for Graham. On May 7, an armed group drove to Drake's Toronto home, and at least one gunman opened fire, wounding a security guard, the suit alleges. However, Graham's complaint did nothing to deter Williams from jamming out while Lamar played the game in front of a crowd of thousands and a TV audience of millions. Williams danced to the song amid a rumored history with Graham. Graham once implied he wrote his 2016 single "Too Good" for Williams when he shared footage of himself discussing the song's inspiration with his mother, Sandi Graham. "I get heavy on a couple joints, but this is more about me and Serena," Graham said. Graham and Williams were seen kissing in August 2015, in photos obtained by TMZ. Now, the image of Williams dancing to the song that mocks Graham has ignited widespread conversation on social media.
