Punchestown Festival 2025 day 2 tips: Robbie Power's selections for Wednesday

The Ladbrokes Punchestown Gold Cup is a fascinating contest today despite there only being four runners. However, they are four top quality horses in Galopin Des Champs, Spillane's Tower, Banbridge and Monty's Star. Galopin Des Champs has never produced around Punchestown what he has done around Leopardstown and Cheltenham so I'd oppose him for that reason. Banbridge might just be the one here, with the track and ground to suit Joseph O'Brien's nine-year-old. He was disappointing in the Gold Cup, but back in a small field on nice ground, the King George winner could land another massive pot. The ground won't be in Spillane's Tower' favour, while Monty's Star ran well when fourth in the Gold Cup. He didn't have the ideal preparation for it and comes into this in much better form and will like the drying ground. He has a bit to find with Galopin Des Champs, but is entitled to take his chance and should run his race. Today's first Grade 1, the Channor Real Estate Group Novice Hurdle, looks like it could be a clash between the Willie Mullins-trained Jasmin De Vaux and Honesty Policy for Gordon Elliott. Jasmin De Vaux was very good when getting his jumping together to win the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham and see off The Big Westerner. But Honesty Policy was also good when winning the Grade 1 Turners Mersey Novices' Hurdle at Aintree. However, I'm going to go for Jasmin De Vaux. He was the Cheltenham Champion Bumper winner last season and is fancied to follow up his Prestbury Park success here. Jasmin De Vaux did not add the Punchestown Champion Bumper to his Cheltenham victory last year and Bambino Fever will aim to do so this time around. The seven-pound mares allowance is huge for her, but I like the look of Colcannon, who comes here fresh having not run since winning at the Dublin Racing Festival and will favour the dry ground. His form got a good boost on Irish Grand National when Sortudo, who was second behind Colcannon, bolted up at Fairyhouse under Patrick Mullins and he is fancied to run a big race again here under Derek O'Connor for Noel Meade. The Adare Manor Opportunity Series Final Handicap Hurdle kicks off the action today at 2.30 and it's a very competitive contest. In For The Night for trainer Desmond McDonogh is up seven pounds for winning at Naas last time out and he is interesting under Charlie O'Dwyer. Henry de Bromhead runs three in the opener and Nouvotic, who won a maiden hurdle at Wexford when last seen on the track last July, is one I'd be keeping on side. This six-year-old is open to further progression and should give Ethan O'Sullivan, who claims four pounds, a good spin. The Connolly's RED MILLS Irish EBF Auction Hurdle Series Final comes next at 3.05 and Champagne Jury and Downmexicoway look like the two for me here. Champagne Jury was second in an auction novice hurdle to Honesty Policy at Leopardstown back in March. That's the best line of form in the race and he looks like the one they all have to beat, but Downmexicoway is the highest rated horse in the race and could be the one to give Champagne Jury plenty to do. In the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel Hurdle at 3.40, I'd be siding with Kaid d'Authie for Willie Mullins and JP McManus, with Mark Walsh on board. He was disappointing the last day when pulled up behind The New Lion in the Turners Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. But he did win a maiden hurdle at Leopardstown over Christmas when beating Kottail Divin, which is a decent line of form and I'd side with him in another open race. In the penultimate race at 6.05, Lets Go Champ is fancied to win this contest again following his victory in it 12 months ago. He comes into it in good form and the better ground will suit this 10-year-old, with Rachael Blackmore onboard. And Seo Linn will take all the beating in the Weatherbys Mares bumper at 6.35 following her impressive win at Aintree earlier this month. Bet of the day - Let's Go Champ - 6.05

Grand National results LIVE: Winners, odds and latest updates on huge day of Aintree racing

The Grand National Festival concludes today with blockbuster showdown at Aintree Racecourse that the last couple of days have been building to. 2024 Grand National champion I Am Maximus is the pre-race favourite with the bookmakers and at the top weight of 11st 12lbs he'll have a tough job on his hands to emulate Grand National legends Red Rum and Tiger Roll by winning the race two years in a row. Competitors include the blazingly good Stumptown and Intense Raffles as well as an Irish chaser Perceval Legallois who is being tipped for a surprising victory in front of the thousands of fans gathered to watch. Aintree day three tips Just under 10 minutes to go until the next day, with a quick turnaround here. Here's Sam Turner's tip for the race... 2.30pm - William Hill Handicap Chase Imperial Saint – 1/2pt ew This trip represents a step into the unknown for Imperial Saint, but his racing style suggests the step up is within his compass and he should appreciate the return to his favoured venue. The selection is 3-3 at Aintree and was an impressive winner when scoring here on Boxing Day by six lengths. He also boasts good ground form on his CV, courtesy of a brace of victories on Merseyside before Christmas. Chris Wilson5 April 2025 14:22 Honesty Policy wins Turners Mersey Novices' Hurdle Here's the top three from race number two then. 1 - Honesty Policy - 5/1 2 - Regent's Stroll - 9/1 3 - Funiculi Funicula - 12/1 Chris Wilson5 April 2025 14:18 Honesty Policy wins Turners Mersey Novices' Hurdle 'He's as honest as it is,' says jockey Mark Walsh, who'll be riding Perceval Legallois in the Grand National later. 'Delighted for Gordon and all the team, it means a lot to them. 'Looking forward to it now, I'm here and ready to go,' he says of the National. Chris Wilson5 April 2025 14:07 Honesty Policy wins Turners Mersey Novices' Hurdle Down the final straight it looked like Regent's Stroll had won it, but Honesty Policy runs him down to finish half a length ahead! Chris Wilson5 April 2025 14:04 Turners Mersey Novices' Hurdle One hurdle left and Regent's Stroll leads, with Koktail Divin second! 5 April 2025 14:03 Turners Mersey Novices' Hurdle Five hurdles to go and Regent's Stroll still leads, with Rachel Blackmore and Koktail Divin in second. Miami Magic and Kappa Jy Pyke are catching up just behind. Chris Wilson5 April 2025 14:02 Turners Mersey Novices' Hurdle Regent's Stroll in an early lead in this one. Two groups have formed already, with Koktail Divin and Miami Magic in second and third. 5 April 2025 14:00 Turners Mersey Novices' Hurdle A delayed start in this one but after everyone gets settled again we're underway in the second race of the day! Chris Wilson5 April 2025 13:59 Turners Mersey Novices' Hurdle Horaces Pearl is favourite for this one, with 3/1 offered. Miami Magic is second at 7/2, with Honesty Policy and Regent's Stroll at 5/1. 5 April 2025 13:51 Aintree day three tips 10 minutes until the second race of the day, so here's the next tip... 1.55pm - Turners Mersey Novices' Hurdle Lulamba – 2pt win Fingle Bridge – 1/2pt ew Lulamba has looked a talented horse in his two UK hurdle events to date and was perhaps a little unlucky to be picked off late on by an unconsidered hurdling debutant in the Triumph Hurdle. The step up to two-and-a-half miles should be ideal and he can stamp his class on this race. There is a chance the betting markets may underestimate the ability of Fingle Bridge who has been plying his trade in minor races to date. He copes well with spring ground and could outrun his odds.

Top 6 Grand National best bookmaker offers

The build-up to the Grand National continues but the marathon steeplechase is far from the only attraction on the third and final day of the Festival at Aintree. There are two Grade 1 hurdles on the card – the Turners Mersey Novices' Hurdle at 2.00pm and the Ivy Liverpool Hurdle at 3.05. Grand National top betting offers 1. bet365 – £30 in free bets when you place a £10 bet This is the perfect welcome offer, whether you are new to the world of betting or an old hand. Deposit and place a qualifying bet and bet365 will give you treble that amount in free bets. It's a flexible offer, so a minimum £5 qualifying bet will see you receive £15 in bet tokens, while a £10 first bet would give you £30 in free bets. What's more, the minimum odds for your qualifying bet are set very low at just 1/5 (1.2), so you have every chance of keeping your initial stake intact before you use your free bets on the Grand National or any other markets that interest you. 2. Tote – Get £20 in bonuses when you bet £5 The Tote will quadruple your investment in bonuses when you sign up in time for the Grand National. Bet £5 at minimum odds of 1/1 (2.0) on racing or sports markets and it will give you a bonus package worth £20. There's £10 on Tote Credit to use on its unique racing pools betting products, a £5 sports free bet and 50 free spins that you can use in the Tote's online casino. Overall, there's a range of bonuses that allows you to both bet on the National and try out other areas of the Tote site. 3. William Hill – Get £10 in free bets when you bet £10 For many people who are new to betting, a recognisable bookmaker with a long-established reputation is an appealing prospect. William Hill lives up to that billing, having been founded way back in 1934 and being a pioneer in the world of online betting. Prospective Grand National punters are likely to be tempted by its offer for the big Aintree race, in which you receive a £10 free bet when you bet £10 on any sports market at odds of 1/1 (2.0) or over. 4. BetMGM – Get a £10 free bet when you place a £10 bet Another big-name bookie who will double your Grand National betting funds is BetMGM. Sign up to the American betting giant and bet £10 at odds of 1/1 (2.0) or greater and it will earn you a £10 free bet in return. There are a couple of notable terms and conditions, but nothing to worry about. The free bet cannot be used on e-sports or non-UK/Ireland horse racing, while the minimum odds of the free bet are 2/1. Neither condition is a factor when using the BetMGM free bet on the Grand National. 5. 10Bet – Get 100% welcome bonus up to £50 If you're planning on making a number of big bets on the Grand National, then this 10Bet welcome offer could be the one for you. Sign up and enter the 10Bet bonus code SPORT. Make a first deposit and 10Bet will match it with a 100 per cent bonus payment up to a maximum figure of £50. What's more, 10Bet will give you your bonus funds as soon as the deposit has been paid, without any need to place a qualifying bet. This is perfect in terms of quickly getting hold of some Grand National free bets. Note that one drawback to this offer is that there are wagering requirements for the deposit and bonus of x8, with bets needing to at least have odds of 4/5 (1.8) to count towards this. 6. Betrino – Get £30 in free bets when you bet £10 Betrino has a special welcome offer for the Grand National. Being specific to the big race at Aintree, the promotion is tailor-made for quickly getting your hands on bonus funds to bet on the event. Sign up and deposit at least £10 using the promo code GRAND. Then bet £10 on any horse racing market. As soon as the bet is placed, you will receive a £30 free bet token, without any need to wait for your qualifying bet to be settled. Minimum odds of the free bet are 1/1, with any winnings needing to be wagered x1.

Grand National tips: Experts' best bets and 12 horses to watch today at Aintree

The Grand National meeting reaches a thrilling climax on Saturday with the feature race due off at 4pm and last year's hero I Am Maximus bidding to defend his crown for trainer Willie Mullins. Last year's winner is among the main contenders, while Iroko, Stumptown, Hewick, Intense Raffles and Vanillier are also heavily fancied by tipsters and experts. I Am Maximus is also attempting to create history as the first runner carrying top weight to win since three-time champion Red Rum in the 1970s, while only Tiger Roll has defended the title, in 2019, since then. A maximum field of 34 horses will tackle 30 fences over four-and-a-quarter miles, with each contender looking to write themselves into racing folklore. Day 3: Saturday 5 April 1.20pm - William Hill Top Price Guarantee Handicap Hurdle Bo Zenith – 1/2pt ew Double Powerful – 1/2pt ew It takes a leap of faith to back Bo Zenith after his seemingly modest effort in the Imperial Cup, but he was placed in a Grade 1 here at last year's meeting and a marked step up in trip and first time cheekpieces could be the catalyst to an improved display. Double Powerful continues to thrive and improve and looks the type to find further progression tackling three miles for the first time. 3.05pm - Ivy Liverpool Hurdle Kitzbuhel – 1pt win Given the way the Willie Mullins team have performed, it seems fruitless to try and oppose Kitzbuhel who must have a huge chance here if seeing out the three miles. His handler has a glut of quality hurdlers at his disposal, so it seems significant that the Closutton think tank deems he is worth stepping up in trip here. 4.00pm - Randox Grand National Handicap Chase Perceval Legallois – 1/2pt ew Minella Cocooner – 1/2pt ew Senior Chief – 1/2pt ew Perceval Legallois is improving at the right time, and we may not have seen the best of him yet. He is fancied to complete the hat-trick and emerge best of Gavin Cromwell's strong contingent. Minella Cocooner should be on the scene granted a clear passage with the booking of Jonathan Burke a major plus, while the lightly raced Senior Chief should enjoy the ground and demands of this race. Three Card Brag boasts the considerable presence of Sean Bowen in the saddle and could play his hand late. 5.00pm - Rosconn Group Maghull Novices' Chase Kalif Du Berlais – 1pt win L'Eau Du Sud sports the first-time cheekpieces after looking to curl up a little on the run in and, with him sure to be favourite on betting sites in this field, he could be worth taking on with Kalif Du Berlais who hated the heavy ground and two-and-a-half mile trip of the G1 Scilly Isles Novices' Chase last time. He will be fresher than most of this field and the Paul Nicholls team have struck on each of the first two days of the meeting. 5.35pm - Weatherbys Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race Le Labo – 1pt win Storming George – 1/2pt ew Joseph O'Brien rarely sends bumper horses to the UK so it seems significant that Le Labo makes the trip, especially as he looked in need of the education at Thurles on his debut. He has already proved he likes good ground and is related to Champion Hurdle winner Binocular so boasts a classy pedigree. Storming George sprung a big surprise at Doncaster on debut and is largely unconsidered by the market on horse racing betting sites at the time of writing. It might not be wise to underestimate him though. We may earn commission from some of the links in this article, but we never allow this to influence our content.
