Kate Martin's Behavior During Valkyries Game Turns Heads on Sunday

Kate Martin's Behavior During Valkyries Game Turns Heads on Sunday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Golden State Valkyries, the newest expansion team in the WNBA this season, took a respectable 2-3 record into Sunday's game against the Minnesota Lynx, who nearly won the league championship last year. Advertisement They played the Lynx, who came in with an undefeated record, to a standstill in the first half. But the Lynx overpowered them afterward and held them to just 23 second-half points en route to an 86-75 victory. Guard Kate Martin, who is in her second season out of Iowa, scored 14 efficient points, which was a new career-high, in 19 minutes off the bench. At one point in the game, she was seen snacking on the bench. Fans on X reacted to this interesting action. "Looks like a Stroopwafel or Uncrustable," one fan responded. "Pretty sure it's the sweet stuff but not positive. What do y'all think?" "Low sugar?" another fan asked. "Kate is hungry after going off," a third fan wrote. "An uncrustable helps me feel better too," a fourth fan wrote. "Seems like some people have grown their games in the offseason, she's one of them," a fifth fan wrote. "Kate's handle is better, and so is her footwork. She seems more athletic, too." "She's a baller!" another fan wrote. Playing a pro basketball game is very demanding, and athletes will lose at least a few points during a game. According to the Gatorade Sports Science Institute, players can intake a sports bar, sports chews or even foods such as oranges during games to replace nutrients that have been lost. Advertisement Martin started in the backcourt alongside Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark while at UConn. She developed into a strong 3-point shooter, and she averaged 13.1 points and 6.8 rebounds a game while shooting 50.7% from the field in her final season with the Hawkeyes. Iowa Hawkeyes guard Caitlin Clark and teammate Kate Martin celebrate after defeating the Indiana Hoosiers for the Big Ten tournament title on March 6, 2022, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Watson / IndyStar / USA TODAY Network The Hawkeyes reached the women's NCAA championship game in both of Martin's last two seasons with them, only to lose there on both occasions. So far in 39 WNBA games, she has averaged 3.1 points in 12.0 minutes a game on 31.3% overall shooting and 35.9% from 3-point range. 44 Handy Kitchen Items That Are Eternally Useful, So You'll Never Regret Buying ‘Em

We hope you love our recommendations! Some may have been sent as samples, but all were independently selected by our editors. Just FYI, BuzzFeed and its publishing partners may collect a share of sales and/or other compensation from the links on this page. Shopping · A lot of things in life will come and go, but this wildly helpful magnetized air fryer cheat sheet and wooden bread "bow" knife are forever. 1. A magnetic air fryer cheat sheet to help minimize effort and maximize deliciousness, no googling, overthinking, or confusing cooking methods required. Promising review:"I am pleased with this product. It is almost impossible to remember the cooking times and temperatures of so many items that can be cooked in my air fryer. This handy guide takes the guesswork out of the process. I bought three for family members for Christmas." — Gerry L. Winters Get it from Amazon for $8.98 (available in two colors). 2. A "Bread Buddy" dispenser that keeps sandwich bread fresh by ensuring it stays *way* more airtight than it does in just the bag alone, and also lets you use the bread bag in a clever way to dispense slices one by one. Tons of reviewers are noting how much longer their bread stays fresh (and how much easier it is to store without worrying about it getting smushed!). Check out a TikTok of the Buddeez sandwich bread dispenser in action. Buddeez is a family-owned, Missouri-based small business that specializes in unique household products. Promising review:"The Buddeez Sandwich Bread Dispenser is great! It does exactly what it was intended for. I live alone and I don't quite go through bread often enough before the last quarter section of the loaf starts to go stale. I was originally looking for something to put a loaf of bread in as a shell for my vacuum sealer, that would keep the bread from getting crushed from the pressure. This dispenser solved all of my problems. Thank you!" — DRMcQuaig Get it from Amazon for $19.99 (available in five styles). 3. A stainless-steel sandwich cutter and sealer for anyone with Uncrustables tastes and a mortal human budget. Now you can make your own at home in batches and freeze them — and better yet, customize them so they're stuffed with your favorite brands of peanut butter and jelly or meats and cheeses. It's an Uncrustable, but make it cheap and bougie. You can also freeze the leftover crusts to make bread pudding, French toast sticks, bread crumbs, and stuffing! Or just go to clown town and eat them right then. 😋 Promising review:"What a game changer for saving money compared to buying the Uncrustables in the store. They are ridiculously overpriced, and with this thing, you can make them at a fraction of the cost. It's really simple to use and works really well. Also, it's very easy to clean, although I would keep it out of the dishwasher to avoid rust. This thing crimps the edges of the bread really well, so there is no spillage or leakage. It works just as well with Nutella as it does with deli meats and cheeses. There's a little learning curve as far as where to put your ingredients, but once you get the hang of it, it's super easy." — Josh Fowler Get it from Amazon for $12.59. 4. A cleverly designed 3-in-1 gap cleaning brush that anyone with an emotional support water bottle (or 10) needs immediately. This gets all the trapped gunk in your water bottle's lid and other crevices out super fast and effectively, so you can sip your bevvies without a side of "ick." Promising review: "I have a number of Yeti and other lidded mugs, cups, and glasses I use at the office and clean out in the communal break room sink. I could see a buildup that I just couldn't get to in the lids, and it was grossing me out! This little tool does the trick! It gets in between the rubber ridges in the rings, all around the lip of the cups and lids, and cleans everything from milk residue to lipstick smudges. I have been using it five days a week for several weeks now, and no signs of wear on the tool. Cleans up great, dries well, does the job." — Alfie Get it from Amazon for $6.99 (available in six colors and multipacks). 5. A set of universal reusable K-cup pods so not only will you cut down on environmental waste, but you can get reeeeal picky about exactly what blends you're brewing into your beloved cuppa every morning. We are all officially getting too old not to have Annoyingly Specific Coffee Preferences, and this is here to help us on that journey. Promising review: "Works great for my Keurig. I feel better not throwing away all those pods! Love the pod measuring scoop! The pods work great and are easy to use and clean. I just open the pod top and tap the bottom of the pod over the garbage to empty. Great value for money." — Kindle Customer Get a set of four from Amazon for $14.95 (also available with a scoop). 6. A set of reusable Gripstic bag sealers, which are sticks that clamp over open snack bags to make sure they're genuinely sealed and airtight. (We cannot risk letting our beloved Cheez-Its get stale!!) These also save a lot of space compared to regular chip clips, and are safer considering there isn't a spring that could either wear out or break on you in the middle of sealing something 😬. Gripstic is a small business that specializes in reusable chip clips. Promising review: "I'm a stickler about stale chips and have always used those little snapping clips. I thought they worked pretty well, but they really don't compared to Gripsticks. The snack that proved this the most was Pirate's Booty. If these are exposed to air for more than three minutes, they turn into styrofoam peanuts. I promise they're just as fresh as when you first open them with Gripsticks. They're going to be my go-to chip clips moving forward." — Rachel Campbell Get a set of 24 from Amazon for $23.95 (available in five sets). 7. A silicone baking mat for your sheet pan, so on days when you've run out of time to do anything orderly for dinner you can just slap a bunch of veggies and frozen goods down, drizzle them in olive oil, and shove them in the oven. Bonus: these are super easy to clean, so you won't have to deal with a mess! Promising review: "I use these mats multiple times a day. They make cleanup super easy, which is really important in my hectic life. They wipe off easily with just water." — Tasia Lung Get a set of two from Amazon for $12.99 (available in two styles and in multipacks). 8. A rectangular Lazy Susan so you can quit meticulously organizing your fridge and embrace the full chaos. This not only holds way more than the traditional round version, but has 360 degree rotation, so you can easily access condiments and foods at the "back" by spinning them closer to yourself. No more accidentally dumping pickle jars on your unsuspecting feet!! Amazon Check out a TikTok of the rectangular Lazy Susan in action. Promising review: "Wow! I love this turntable organizer! I can fit so many items on it and because of that I now have so much more space on the door shelves. With this organizer, I will have easy access to all of those extra items that just don't have their own space. Now they do have a place to go! I would highly recommend this product to everyone who wants to feel more organized and doesn't want to lose items in their fridge." — Amazon Customer Get it from Amazon for $19.99. 9. A snap-on pasta strainer to free your pasta from its hot juices straight from the pot, and spare you storage space to boot (is it just me or are colanders always in the business of being exactly in the way of whatever it is you need?). Psst — these are also a game-changer for washing your fruit, too! Amazon Kitchen Gizmos is a small business that specializes in kitchen accessories. Promising review:"I've owned this for about six months, and I couldn't imagine cooking without it. I hate strainers. They are bulky and fill up the dishwasher, I'm lazy, whatever. This strainer is a lifesaver. Clip it on your pan, strain, and voila! And it is so easy to clean. A little hot water and it's good to go for the next round. I highly recommend this gadget, it will retire your current strainer." — Viola Evens Get it from Amazon for $9.99+ (available in six colors). 10. A"Gracula" garlic crusher, because you know what? If a 108-year-old vampire lurking moodily in the trees in the Pacific Northwest isn't going to fall in love with you and grant you immortality, one might as well make your life in the kitchen a little easier. To mince the garlic, pop the vampire's head off, insert the cloves, and put it back on and twist. Reviewers also use this for ginger, nuts, and herbs! Promising review: "I love this little guy. I found him on a BuzzFeed list and had to have it as soon as I saw it! I've minced as many as five cloves in it in seconds. It's a little tricky getting all of the garlic out once minced (I use a silicone basting brush to get most of it, but I always use more than the recipe calls for anyway, so it's not a deal breaker). Cleanup is a breeze because he goes right in the dishwasher!" — Barbie Get it from Amazon for $18.99. 11. An internet-beloved OXO measuring cup with transparent measurements on the side *and* angled in the middle so you can see exactly how much you're measuring from a bird's-eye view. It also comes equipped with a soft grip handle and a deeply convenient angled nozzle, and is dishwasher-safe! Promising review:"Our old liquid measuring cups were beginning to get worn and very hard to read. I had seen these angled measuring cups before and wanted to give them a try, so I bought two (2-cup versions) to replace our existing cups. I've only gotten to use them a handful of times, but I can already tell you they are better than traditional measuring cups. In my opinion, this is the only way measuring cups should be made in the future." — SK Get it from Amazon for $10.95. 12. A reviewer-beloved veggie chopper that'll have you feeling like a golden god in your kitchen — this gadget julienne, chops, spiralizes, and slices vegetables in an instant and has a built-in storage container to hold the chopped veggies so you can pour them into a pan or dish without any mess. Amazon Fullstar is a small business established in 2017 that specializes in kitchen gadgets. Check out a TikTok of the veggie chopper in action. Promising review:"Makes life so much easier. I can't imagine chopping onions or bell peppers by hand anymore, and it does so much more. We used to have a Prepworks chopper which was a similar idea, but you had to press so hard to chop, and it broke after not too long. This one requires very little effort to cut through the food and it has a generous container." — Amazon Customer Get it from Amazon for $29.97+ (clip the $5 off coupon on the product page for this price; available in five styles). 13. A Mason jar-inspired cold brew coffee maker to save you (*crunches numbers*) one bajillion dollars at coffee shops, and a whole lot of time to boot. All you have to do is put your favorite coffee grounds in this pitcher and let them steep overnight. Be the cool, aloof barista with amazing cold brew on tap you want to see in the world! Promising review: "Smooth coffee. This is the best way to have coffee without the acid and still have the caffeine. Easy to use and so much cheaper than buying cold brew coffee. I have bought several over the years for friends. I've owned mine now for four years and still love it." — Terry Get it from Amazon for $24.99+ (available in four colors and two sizes). 14. A collapsible Magic Mushroom funnel so you can feel like an enchanted forest nymph while you funnel your coffee, wine, baking ingredients, or mystical potions. Amazon Check out a TikTok of the magic mushroom funnel in action. Promising review: "I am obsessed with this funnel!!! I juice a lot of citrus and juices for cocktails, and this little guy is the perfect size for bottling. It's beyond cute and really great quality. The perfect addition to any cottagecore kitchen!" — Abbey Klem Get it from Amazon for $14.95 (available in two sizes). 15. It looks great on my counter." — Heather Get it from Wayfair for $33.65 (originally $60). 17. A "Pizza Pack," aka a pizza storage container so handy you'll wish you bought one MOONS ago. Pizza Pack is a small business that specializes in sustainable food storage solutions. Promising review:"It's always a pain to put away leftover pizza. It never seems to work. UNTIL THIS PRODUCT!!! I am very happy with my purchase. It's easy to keep the pieces separate from others and you don't have a large bulky box letting your crust dry out. You can use it for one piece or several — it is very easy to expand. The best part is that it is very easy to clean. Storing the Pizza Pack when not in use doesn't take up a lot of space either. Try it." — B. Cirincione Get it from Amazon for $24.99 (available in eight colors). 18. A handy dandy condiment fork with a holder you can wrap right around a jar of olives or pickles so it'll always be at your disposal when you suddenly *need* a pickle but don't want to put your hands in the jar. This is also great for late-night snacking shenanigans, since you won't wake up half the house looking for a clean fork. Check out a TikTok of the condiment fork in action. Promising review: "Great kitchen item. Forks are great to get pickles out of the jar, but if you have kids/lazy people (lol) you know that dirty hands are going into that jar. 😉 This has really prevented that from happening. It comes with two different rings to fit whatever size jar, a stabber holder, and a stabbing stick." — Amazon Customer Get it from Amazon for $8.99. 19. Amazon Check out a TikTok of the bacon bin in action. Talisman Designs is a small business that specializes in at-home cooking and entertaining products. Promising review:"This thing is awesome. Big enough to hold plenty of grease without taking up a ton of space. I keep mine in the butter compartment of my fridge next to the butter. I poured the grease right from the pan, still very hot right into it, and popped the lid on and put it in the fridge. Next time I needed some grease, I scooped some out with a spoon, no muss no fuss. Much better than the glass jar I was using. My only warning is if you get it out when people are visiting keep an eye on it. It saves me loads of clean-up time from splatter on the range and surrounding areas. I am a messy cook! It allows steam to escape (unlike the flat splatter guards I have always used), so that whatever is cooking is dry cooked and does not get mushy or collect water. There is ample space to get to the food to move it around or add ingredients. It goes into the dishwasher and cleans without having a greasy residue. Phillies Star Turns Heads With Unexpected Mid-Game Snack

Nick Castellanos has experienced his share of viral moments. Now he's grabbing attention for his mid-game snack. The Philadelphia Phillies star chowed down in the middle of his game against the New York Mets on Monday night at Citi Field. The right fielder chilled in the dugout looking at the action while scarfing down an Uncrustable, the popular peanut butter and jelly snack—sans the crust—for athletes in MLB clubhouses and NBA, NHL and NFL locker rooms. Advertisement The Mets announcers on SNY got a kick out of Castellanos getting a mid-game grub, which isn't all that unusual. Castellanos also went viral on Monday even before the game started. For the uninitiated, Castellanos has a knack for hitting home runs during major news events or noteworthy deaths. For example, he hit a walk-off home run last year on the day Willie Mays died. He also homered the day an assassination attempt was made against then-presidential candidate Donald Trump. Castellanos also homered when then-President Joe Biden announced he was dropping out of the 2024 presidential race. The news prompted many sports bettors to check if Castellanos would be in the Phillies lineup on Monday. Sure enough, he was, which prompted bettors to place bets he would hit a home run against the Mets. Things got so intense that FanDuel, at one point, prevented fans from making the bet. When it was all said and done, Castellanos was the most-bet player to hit a home run on Monday, and there were three times as many bets on Castellanos as any other player over at Bet MGM. For the record, Castellanos did not hit a home run. He went hitless in four at-bats and struck out twice. The Phillies also lost to the Mets, 5-4.

Nick Castellanos fails to homer after being the most bet-on prop in all of sports on Monday

Nick Castellanos has made a habit of inserting himself into awkward or notable moments in recent history with home runs. It all started in 2020 with 'As there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos…' when Thom Brennaman was trying to make a public apology during a broadcast. no way did this just happen, this is not real — paco (@AllaireMatt) August 20, 2020 Since then, other sobering moments have seemingly coincided with a Castellanos homer, turning him into a subject of online fascination. Castellanos has become so infamous that when Pope Francis died early on Monday, bettors rushed to bet on him to hit a home run. While some may find this distasteful, sportsbooks saw more action on the Castellanos homer prop than any other player prop in any other sport. BetMGM had the Philadelphia Phillies outfielder listed at +775 to hit a home run Monday at the New York Mets. The odds moved to +550 after a rush of bets. The sportsbook said it was still the most bet-on market of the night across all sports. There are more bets on Nick Castellanos (+550) to hit a Home Run at @BetMGM than: Any team to winAny team to coverAny over/underAny player prop In ALL sports. @Phillies outfielder NOT hitting a HR would be a good outcome for the sportsbook. — John Ewing (@johnewing) April 21, 2025 A whopping 97 percent of the tickets and 90 percent of the money on Castellanos' home run prop were on Castellanos to hit a home run. The doubters cashed in after he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. At this point, even opposing pitchers might be aware of the phenomenon; it was all over social media yesterday in anticipation. Of course, no pitcher wants to go viral for giving up a home run. In Castellanos' first at-bat on Monday, he got ahead 3-0 in the count. Perhaps Mets pitcher Tylor Megill was trying to pitch around him? He ended up striking out three pitches later. Advertisement Megill didn't avoid the zone on Castellanos' next trip to the plate. Megill struck him out on three pitches, all of which caught at least a little of the plate, according to MLB Gameday. Castellanos popped out in the sixth inning, but gave one a bit of a ride in the eighth. He got a high fastball on an 0-2 count and took it 348 feet to centerfield, but that wasn't quite enough to make the internet explode. 'Castellanos' warning track fly ball gave us a scare last night, but thankfully it stayed in the yard,' said Seamus Magee, Trading Manager at BetMGM. In the end, Castellanos' most notable action from Monday's 5-4 loss to the Mets was the SNY broadcast catching him eating an Uncrustable in the dugout. He's far from the only athlete to enjoy Uncrustables. Nick Castellanos has a sandwich in the Phillies' dugout 🥪 — SNY (@SNYtv) April 22, 2025 It remains to be seen if this will put an end to the joke, or if the internet will be back at it the next time something comes up that fits the narrative.
