Charli XCX Reveals ‘Brat' Follow-Up Plans
For the record, Charli XCX has no problem being a flop. We know she's nothing of the sort, as her album brat made waves and brought her artistry to the mainstream. The pop pioneer gained traction as songs like 'Von Dutch,' '360,' and 'Apple' found new audiences, making 2024 an undeniably brat summer. The project became her highest charting album as it hit No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and it earned Charli her first three Grammy wins. Even now, an entire year after brat was released, new fans and OG Angels agree that brat summer is forever. According to the artist, she doesn't 'really feel the pressure' to chase the same commercial success with her next album. During an interview with Culted, she shared, 'I don't really feel the pressure to create another record like brat because when I was making it, even though I really believed in it and totally knew what I wanted to do with it, I had no idea how it would be received.' She added, 'I was really doing it for myself and marketing it in the way I wanted to for myself but I had no clue that people would kind of connect to it in the way that they did. So yeah, I don't really feel the pressure because I feel that you can never really do the same thing twice, and my next record will probably be a flop, which I'm down for, to be honest.' A few weeks before she dropped ^^^ this revelation, Charli opened up about not wanting to let go of brat in a candid TikTok video. 'It's really hard to let go of brat and let go of this thing that is so inherently me and become my entire life, you know?' she said in the clip. 'And I started thinking about culture and the kind of ebbs and flows of the lifespan of things and how when you get a level of success, you can kind of become oversaturated and then people want you to disappear, which I understand.' It's difficult to imagine Charli flopping anytime soon, as her 2020 track, 'party 4 u,' has reached new fans and is steadily climbing up the Billboard Hot 100. The song also went viral on TikTok with more than 2.9 million creator posts and 6.6 million views, and made its way into Spotify's Global Top 50 chart and U.S. Top 50 chart. Five years after its initial release, it's well on its way to becoming the song of summer 2025.

Charli xcx predicts Brat follow-up will 'flop'
Charli xcx believes her next album will be a "flop" after the mind-blowing success of 'Brat'. The 'Von Dutch' singer is not feeling any "pressure" to top her chart-topping record which dominated mainstream pop in 2024 - but she doesn't anticipate her follow-up will do as well. She told Culted: 'I was really doing it for myself. I had no clue people would connect with it the way they did. I don't feel the pressure because you can never really do the same thing twice. My next record will probably be a flop, which I'm down for.' Charli recently admitted she is finding it "really hard to let go of" 'Brat'. The '360' hitmaker dominated pop culture with her 2024 LP and has admitted she would love to extend her 'Brat' era for as long as possible, because it's who she is, but she also understands that everything has a "lifespan". Addressing the future of 'Brat' in an honest TikTok, she began: 'Yesterday I made this TikTok about, 'Summer again?' And I was kind of joking but also maybe serious. 'I don't know. Um, but it got me thinking about it is really hard to let go of 'Brat,' and let go of this thing that is so inherently me, and become my entire life.' However, she admitted she likes the "tension of staying too long". She continued: 'You know? I started thinking about culture and the ebbs and flows of the lifespan of things. Then, how when you get a level of success, you can become oversaturated and then people want you to disappear – which I understand, and I am sort of a believer in that. 'I think it allows artists to retain their cool when they are so in everyone's faces, then they vanish. But I am also interested in the tension of staying too long. I find that quite fascinating in what that does.' Hinting 'Brat' could stick around, Charli added: 'But yeah, it's obviously hard to just be like, 'Ok. It's over now.' I kind of want it to go on and on and one because it is who I am. I've been thinking about 'Brat' long before the record came out. I've sat here on my own for two year prior thinking about how I'm going to communicate this record to the world. Not just the music but the whole visual identity of the album.' Charli concluded: 'I just kind of want it to keep going.' 'Brat' sparked a whole pop culture phenomenon with the 'Brat Girl' persona, while the sickly green colour used on the album cover inspired TikTok trends, fashion, and even a crossover into politics with the US presidential election when Charli branded Democrat Kamala Harris "Brat". The term was also crowned Collins Dictionary word of the year.

Fleetwood Mac star reacts to Charli XCX's ‘saucy' music video with daughter
Lindsey Buckingham is gearing up for yet another Brat summer. The former Fleetwood Mac musician shared to YouTube a video reacting to Charli XCX 's 'Von Dutch' music video as part of his new reaction series with his 25-year-old daughter, Leelee. 'This one is Charli XCX who I'm not that familiar with,' the Palo Alto native says in the clip, posted to his channel Wednesday, May 14. 'I hear good things.' Before hitting play on the music video, during which the British pop star chaotically struts around Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, Leelee asks her father if he had a Brat summer, to which he replies 'the brattiest.' 'She's getting kind of saucy already,' Buckingham goes on to say as Charli XCX rips off her pants and throws them behind her as she walks through a busy airport terminal. 'That's not a good place to get saucy.' The 'Landslide' artist continued to interject with his commentary throughout the high-energy video, with Leelee chiming in with her own observations at times to explain what's going on. At one point he notes that the singer 'bleeds on the lens and she spits,' adding that he doesn't think it was real blood. 'I don't think so, dad,' Leelee concurs. Later in the video, when the 'Apple' singer hops onto the wing of a parked airplane, ignoring a sign that advises not to do so, Buckingham proclaims he's 'surprised the airport let her do all this stuff.' By the end of the rather turbulent music video, Buckingham concludes that he found it 'entertaining.' "There was so much going on,' he says, 'and all in the context of a normally-restrictive environment, paranoid environment, uptight environment — that set the whole thing off very well.' The father-daughter duo launched their 'Lindsey + Leelee React' video series on April 16 with a live reaction to the video for Buckingham's 1984 solo single, 'Slow Dancing,' which Leelee compared to the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland.

On Wednesday, May 14, the Fleetwood Mac legend and his daughter Leelee Buckingham shared a video of them watching Charli xcx's "Von Dutch" music video as a part of their "Lindsey + Leelee React" video series. Lindsey, 75, had thoughts about the topsy-turvy clip. "I'm not that familiar with [her]," he said at the start of the video, noting that he did see her on Saturday Night Live. "I hear good things." Leelee, 25, asked her father if he had a "Brat summer" before they dove in. "The brattiest," he deadpanned. Charli's chaotic "Von Dutch" music video takes place at the Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris. At the start, she struts while taking off her pants. "She's getting kind of saucy already," said Lindsey. "That's not a good place to get saucy." The video then cuts to Charli, 32, on an airplane and then on a tarmac, spitting and banging her head onto the camera lens. "She bleeds on the lens and she spits," the musician observes, before adding that he doesn't think the "Apple" singer "bled for real." "I don't think so, Dad," Leelee replied as Charli continues to attack the camera. "[To me] they would go, 'Get away. Get out of here,' " Lindsey said. The music video concludes with an exhausted and bloody Charli on the baggage claim carousel. "I thought it was very entertaining," Lindsey said at the music video's conclusion. "There was so much going on, and all in the context of a normally-restrictive environment, paranoid environment, uptight environment — that set the whole thing off very well, I thought." The "Von Dutch" music video was nominated at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards for Best Cinematography thanks to Nikita Kuzmenko's work. The song was the lead single off her album Brat. In 2024, she spoke to Vogue about filming the music video. "When we found out we were going to shoot most of the video in Charles de Gaulle I kind of couldn't believe it,' she told the publication. "I knew it was going to be amazing." The three-time Grammy winner said that performing on the wing of an airplane was "actually so scary." The PEOPLE Puzzler crossword is here! How quickly can you solve it? Play now! "I was in a harness so I was safe, but it had rained just before the shot and the plane wing had this massive curve to it — so sometimes I would just randomly slip and fall and slide towards the edge of the wing, which was terrifying," Charli added. Skin Care Pioneer Ole Henriksen Announces ‘The Glowing Man' Biopic in Cannes
CANNES, France — Skin care guru Ole Henriksen is readying for a closeup of his life. The Danish businessman, self-help author and TV personality is prepping to go into production on a biopic titled 'The Glowing Man,' backed by executive producer Niels Juul with a screenplay written by British author James Wyllie. More from WWD Bath & Body Works' New Off the Vine Scent Collection Confirms the Return of Tomato Girl Summer Halle Berry, Juliette Binoche Wave the French Flag at Cannes Film Festival Opening Ceremony Eva Longoria in Beaded Tamara Ralph Gown, Heidi Klum in Floral Elie Saab and More Cannes Film Festival 2025 Red Carpet Arrivals Juul, former managing director of Von Dutch and chief executive officer of Hot Tuna, moved into film in 2008. Since then he's been behind a series of Martin Scorsese projects, including 'Silence,' 'The Irishman' and 'Killers of the Flower Moon.' He also worked on Michael Mann's 'Ferrari,' starring Adam Driver and Penélope Cruz under his No Fat Ego banner. The Henriksen project was launched at a splashy boat party in the Cannes harbor where the trio discussed the project. 'He is an icon, a hero. He is humble. People think he's a jumping clown with a skin care [brand], but this man has done more for gay rights than you could possibly imagine,' Juul said. 'There's a story here you want to watch.' Henriksen relayed a story of his battle with U.S. immigration authorities for legal status to remain as an openly gay man at a time when it was illegal. Homosexual orientation was categorized as 'psychopathic personality' and grounds for deportation from 1967 to 1990. Henriksen added that this story is in the script, in which he details the fight and psychological examinations he had to undergo before the law was overturned. Still, the film will not be a drama. Instead, the team framed it as an ebullient film with musical touches and a strong soundtrack featuring songs from gay icons of the times, including Diana Ross and David Bowie — both of whom became personal pals and clients of Henriksen. 'This is really a movie that's about inspiring the audience to also go out there and fulfill their dreams to express yourself the way you need to express yourself. Be proud of the person you are. Keep your head high, have fun, laugh. Have a sense of humor about yourself,' he said of the film's anticipated 'feel good' vibe. 'The truth is, we're gonna pick as many songs as we can afford,' joked Juul. The film will also include the original song 'Dope' by Danish duo Puls, on which Henriksen was featured. The song became a hit in his native Denmark in 2011. The team also hopes to enlist some of his famous friends such as Sylvester Stallone and Cher for cameos. Henriksen's brand was acquired by LVMH's Kendo beauty division in 2011. Juul said the project has the full support of the group. 'We work with them, very actively. [They are] incredibly supportive, providing us with the skin care, making sure that all is respected,' he told WWD. He will look at marketing options with the group. 'If there is anything we can do to do co-branding, co-marketing with Sephora, absolutely we will.' Henriksen said that working with Kendo has allowed him freedom to develop his product and personality. 'What's great about LVMH is they are brilliant at highlighting the DNA of each and every brand they own. They want to bring that to life. They want to give you bigger biceps, muscles to grow, and they never step in and say, 'We have to change,'' he said. However, both were clear that the film will be a true biopic and not an ad. 'How do you work with a brand? Well, you do that carefully…I would like LVMH to be happy,' he said. 'Because why can't a brand tell a story without it being a commercial? If the story is good, there's no reason why we cannot work with LVMH.' Juul added that coming from a fashion business background, he understands the concerns that brands can have around a film. He said that the movie is not currently being financed by LVMH or its 22 Montaigne film division, but that when the script is finalized with talent attached, that topic may be revisited. 'I cannot sell a movie in the current marketplace as drama. Forget about it. If I want to do a $10 million movie, forget it. The algorithms are going to tell you, go f–k yourself, give me Kate Winslet,' Juul said on the need for star power. Juul is in the process of casting and has a specific A-list actor on his radar, but the project is due to be shot 30 percent in Danish and 70 percent in English. Ensuring that the actor can learn some Danish is a key criterion for the role. The script is nearly finished, Juul said, and the film is expected to go into production this fall. The team is currently in talks with Danish production company Nordisk Film. Juul added that he misses the fast pace of the fashion industry and working on seasonal collections. 'I gotta be honest with you, I like the movie business, but I miss product,' he said. 'I love fashion.' The executive said he is also working on a project with the Valentino brand, as well as Adidas, which will be announced later this week in Cannes.
