Some Bad News About ‘The Boys' Season 5 Release Date

The Boys If you were hoping that you'd be able to watch the series finale of The Boys any time soon, prepare to be disappointed. Only just now has Amazon announced that The Boys season 5 has ended filming. Good news, right? Yes and no, as the post-production time this series has from now until release indicates a very, very long wait. Using season 4 as the last test, that season of The Boys wrapped filming on April 12, 2024. Season 4 of the show was not released until June 13, 2024. That's another full 14 months of production. So, taking today's July 2025 filming wrap date and going another 14 months past that, we arrive in September 2026, meaning it will be two years and three months between season 4 and season 5, which I believe is longer than the industry average, even in this era filled with huge seasonal gaps. In the interim, however, we will have the second season of Gen V, the college-based spin-off of The Boys, which will arrive in September 2025 as a stopgap until September 2026's The Boys season 5 release. I would argue that Gen V is actually a better show than The Boys at this point, but that's neither here nor there. The Boys We also still have two confirmed spin-offs in the works, the prequel Vought Rising series and the upcoming The Boys: Mexico, which still seem to be happening. Or at least we haven't heard that either is cancelled yet. Both would likely not air until after The Boys season 5 ends the mainline series, and then we enter The Walking Dead territory where the IP lives on through a series of spin-offs. This is something that Netflix is doing with increasing regularity with its big series. Reacher gaps are now being filled by its upcoming spin-off, Neagley, about his long-term friend and partner. We have learned that the popular Terminal List will not return for season 2 any time soon but will instead get the one-off prequel show, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, starring Taylor Kitsch's character that will arrive in August. We still don't have an exact date for season 2 of the main Terminal List series with Chris Pratt. I'm not wild about waiting another 14 months from today to watch the series finale of The Boys. Actually, it will be two months after that, given that Amazon does not do binge releases for the most part. But this is how streaming works now, like it or not. 'The Boys' Jensen Ackles Teases New Series ‘Countdown' Fans Won't Want to Miss

The Boys has led to multiple television and movie roles for the stars of the hit show, although most of them had lengthy resumes before the popular series. However, the emergence of one popular character went so well that it led to a spinoff series for Jensen Ackles. Ackles, who portrays Soldier Boy in The Boys, will be a centerpiece of the upcoming spinoff Vought Rising, which already has plenty of intrigue surrounding it. Along with that series, Ackles is also a headliner for another upcoming Amazon Prime Video show, Countdown. The new crime series is set to be released on June 25, with an impressive roster featuring Jessica Camacho, Eric Dane and Elliot Knight, among others. Ahead of the show's release, Ackles spoke to TV Insider and hyped up the series while also explaining what initially drew him to the project. "Then I got a clear sense of what he wanted to do. I was like, 'Oh, this is not only in my wheelhouse, it's the stuff I grew up being attracted to,'" Ackles said of the show Countdown. The Boys star also had high praise for the rapport between the characters in the show, stating there's a "disgusting amount of chemistry." "You really get a sense of who these people are. Not just together as the team, but individually," Ackles added. "That lets the audience invest in the characters and not just the was a disgusting amount of chemistry that was formed very quickly off-set that lends itself to on-set chemistry."It's high praise from Ackles, and showrunner Derek Haas explained that while many crime shows in previous years have embraced the "dark" aspect of detectives, Countdown will be the opposite. Haas described it as classic popcorn entertainment. "The last 20 years of television—not in a bad way—[has embraced] the sort of dark sensibility where if you have a detective, it's like they're so haunted by the job, they drink and all of these things,' assesses Haas. As TV Insider explained of Haas's assessment: "This new series, he says, is the opposite: a classic popcorn entertainment with cheeky heroes, smart dialogue, and practical stunts galore." "I just like the fun vibe of those old movies," Haas said. Fans of Ackles' work should be excited about what's ahead for the man many know as Soldier Boy, and they should expect to see a lot of him in the coming years.'The Boys' Jensen Ackles Teases New Series 'Countdown' Fans Won't Want to Miss first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 16, 2025

Boys season 5 finale promises shocking twists, major deaths, and emotional send-off

The Boys is ending on a high note. Season 4 of the Prime Video series recently topped Nielsen's streaming charts for the first time, solidifying its status as one of television's most buzzworthy shows. But as production continues on its fifth and final season, fans are already mourning its impending conclusion. Series creator Eric Kripke has confirmed that Season 5 will mark the official end of The Boys, aligning with his original five-season plan. 'We get to end it on our terms,' he said when the announcement was made, a sentiment echoed by cast member Colby Minifie (Ashley Barrett), who added, 'The best stories have a beginning, middle, and end. Knowing the end is in five, we were able to tell the middle really well.' That creative closure hasn't softened the emotional blow for fans or cast. 'Every time it's the same reaction. 'No! Who do I have to murder!?'' joked Jack Quaid (Hughie Campbell) during a panel at Deadline's Prime Experience Emmy FYC event. 'And that's a good sign. You don't want the opposite where they're like, 'Oh thank God.'' According to Antony Starr (Homelander), Season 5 is a culmination of long-building storylines. 'I look at the last two seasons like an accordion,' he said. 'There was a lot of setup in Season 4 for Season 5. Everything is gunning towards that climactic end.' Co-star Nathan Mitchell (Black Noir) added that fans should expect the unexpected: 'There are some things coming in Season 5 that you're not going to have on your bingo card.' The cast has been together for eight years, navigating long production stretches and a global pandemic. As the series wraps, many reflect on the show's relevance and risk-taking tone. 'Sometimes things go on too long and then it starts to run away from you,' said Minifie. 'We're lucky that's not the case here.' While The Boys is ending in 2026, the universe is far from over. Prime Video has ordered a new prequel series, Vought Rising, which explores the origins of Vought in the 1950s. Starring Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash reprising their roles as Soldier Boy and Stormfront—then known as Clara Vought—the prequel will be a twisted murder mystery. Paul Grellong will serve as showrunner. With Season 5 filming through the summer for a 2026 release, The Boys is set to go out with what the cast promises will be a bold, unpredictable finish.

Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins have joined the fifth and final season of 'The Boys' as guest stars, reuniting with their fellow 'Supernatural' alum, Jensen Ackles. Details on their roles are being kept under wraps. 'The Boys' creator Eric Kripke has long expressed a desire to cast Padalecki on the satirical superhero drama, said last year, 'I feel like I have to complete my game of 'Supernatural' Pokémon and I have my one big one — very big one — left to catch.' He later told Variety he was talking to Padalecki about a role on the final season, saying, 'I love him and you try to work with people that you love.' In addition to Ackles, who plays Soldier Boy, 'The Boys' has also featured 'Supernatural' actors Jim Beaver (playing Robert Singer), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (playing Joe Kessler), and Rob Benedict (playing Splinter). Padalecki starred alongside Ackles on the CW sci-fi drama for 15 seasons, from its debut on what was then the WB in 2005 through its series finale in 2020. It stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Laz Alonso, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Nathan Mitchell, Chace Crawford, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit, and Giancarlo Esposito. The college-set spinoff 'Gen V' debuted in 2023 and was renewed for a second season. There was also an adult animated spinoff titled 'The Boys Presents: Diabolical' and the upcoming show 'Vought Rising' starring Padalecki.
