Waltair Division celebrates ‘Har Ghar Tiranga' week
As part of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' (HGT) campaign 2025, the Waltair Division is hosting a number of events including: Rangoli competitions, essay writing contests, quiz programs, enthusiastic Tiranga-themed bike and cycle rallies, a Tiranga concert, Tiranga art painting sessions, and creative selfie booths. On Thursday, the Personnel Branch of the Waltair Division conducted a rangoli competition at the Rail Club, for women railway employees. President of ECoR Women's Welfare Organisation (E Co RWWO) Jyotsna Bohra along with other executive members, judged the event and announced the winners. As part of the week-long celebrations a film festival is also being organised. On August 8, a patriotic film will be screened at the Railway Club. The event is expected to draw a large audience, including children, ECoRWWO members, staff and officers. Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra appealed to the public to take active part in fostering national pride and community spirit by participating in the events and ensuring the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign is a memorable one.

Special express train extended for festival season with additional trips
The special express train (09059) between train Udhna – Khurda Road has been extended by eight more trips to clear the extra rush of passengers during the festival season. Train no. 09059 will leave Udhna at 12.20 hours on Wednesdays from August 6 to September 24 and will reach Vizianagaram on the next day (on Thursdays) at 4 p.m. and depart at 4.25 p.m. to reach Khurda Road at 102.30 p.m. In the return direction, 09060 Khurda Road – Udhna Special Express train will leave Khurda Road at 2 a.m. on Fridays from August 8 to September 26 and will reach Vizianagaram at 7.25 a.m. and depart at 7.50 p.m. to reach Udhna on the next day at 1.30 p.m., according to K. Saandeep, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Waltair Division. Special train will have stoppages at Vyara, Nandurbar, Dharangaon, Jalgoan, Bhusaval, Malkapur, Akola, Badnera, Wardha, Nagpur Jn, Tumsar Road, Gondia Jn, Durg, Raipur Jn, Mahasamund, Khariar Road, Kantabanji, Titlagarh, Kesinga, Muniguda, Rayagada, Parvatipuram, Bobbili, Vizinagram, Srikakulam Road, Palasa, Brahmapur, Balugaon between Udhna – Khurda Road - Udhna. Composition : These pair of trains will have 1st AC cum 2nd AC – 1, 2nd AC – 2, 3rdAC – 6, Sleeper class coaches-7, General Second Class-4, Second class cum luggage/ Divyangjan -1 and Motor Car-1 in its composition. Cancellation Due to safety related modernisation works in Kottavalasa- Pendurthi section of Waltair Division the following trains will be cancelled from August 6 to 9. Train no. 18526 Visakhapatnam-Brahmapur Express, leaving Visakhapatnam from August 6 to 8 and 18525 Brahmapur-Visakhapatnam Express, leaving Brahmapur from August 7 to 9.

Operations of new railway zonal office from Dasara
Visakhapatnam: The operations of the new railway zone, South Coast Railway (SCoR), are likely to commence from Dussehra as the temporary office of the general manager of SCoR was finalised. Tenders will be called for the interior works and other preparations for the operations. However, there is still no clarity over the adjustment of the employees, sources said. The temporary office will be set up on two floors (sixth and seventh floors) of the newly constructed building 'The Deck' in front of the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (VMRDA). The newly appointed General Manager, Sandeep Mathur, already visited the structure, and 41,500 square feet of space will be utilised for the office of the GM and 15 various department heads (HODs). Apart from them, another 30 officers and around 700 employees will extend their services. After a couple of years, the GM office will be shifted to the permanent building, which is currently under construction. The agreement between the railways and VMRDA will be completed in a week or two. Undo According to railway sources, a major freight earner line, including the KK line, will be merged into the newly formed Rayagada Division of East Coast Railway. So far, there has been no gazette notification over the zone. The Visakhapatnam MP, M Sribharat, says that the dates of the gazette notification and the commencement of operations of the zone will be finalised soon. The NDA govt in the state and centre is committed to starting the new zone operations. Railway sources said that Andhra Ooty, Araku, is now merged into the new Rayagada Division from the Waltair Division. Although there were requests to keep the highest revenue earners, Araku and Koraput routes (KK Line), in the newly forming Visakha Division instead of the Waltair Division, the authorities, including the railway board, did not consider it. The Waltair Division is one of the highest freight earners in the country, generating around Rs. 8,000 crore out of the Rs. 15,000 crore of the entire East Coast Railway Zone, according to a high-ranking official in the Waltair Division. The new zone, SCoR, will have advantages with the biggest loco shed, electrical loco shed, and a spacious marshalling yard, which are in the existing 125-year-old Waltair Division, becoming the Visakha Division. The Visakha Division will have a 410 square kilometre extent of the Waltair Division, and the remaining 680 km will be merged into the Rayagada Division. Vizag to Palasa in Srikakulam district will be in the Visakha Division, and Palasa to Icchapuram in the Srikakulam district will come under the Khurda Division of East Coast Railway, sources said.

Festival rush: Railways extend key Vizag special trains to ease crowd; check dates, timings
VISAKHAPATNAM : Keeping in mind the festival rush and to clear the rush of passengers, the railways decided to extend the special train services till the end of September. Visakhapatnam-Tirupati-Visakhapatnam (08547/08548) and Visakhapatnam-Charlapalli-Visakhapatnam (08579/08580) special trains were extended for the convenience of the public. The train No. 08547 Visakhapatnam-Tirupati Weekly Special train services are extended from August 6 to September 24 (around eight trips). The train will leave Visakhapatnam every Wednesday at 7 pm and will reach Tirupati at 9.15 am the next day. In the return direction, Tirupati-Visakhapatnam (08548) Weekly Special train services are extended from August 7 to September 25 for eight trips. The train will leave Tirupati every Thursday at 9.50 pm and will reach Visakhapatnam at 11.30 am the next day. Visakhapatnam-Charlapalli (08579) Weekly Special train services are extended from August 8 to September 26 (a total of nine trips) with revised timings. The train will leave Visakhapatnam every Friday at 5.30 pm and will reach Charlapalli at 8 am the next day. In the return direction, Charlapalli-Visakhapatnam (08580) Weekly Special train will leave from August 9 to September 27 (nine trips) with revised timings. The train will leave Charlapalli every Saturday at 3.30 pm and will reach Visakhapatnam at 7 am the next day, the Waltair Division Senior Commercial Manager K Saandeep informed.

DRM inspects railway sidings, infra at NTPC, Simhadri
Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Lalit Bohra, along with senior officials from the Waltair Division, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the railway siding and establishments at the Simhadri Super Thermal Power Plant, on Thursday. The DRM focused on critical safety protocols related to rake handling, the discharge system at the siding, and the mobility of train operations within the NTPC premises. Special emphasis was given to track and electrification maintenance, as well as streamlining operational challenges to enhance overall efficiency. During the visit, Mr. Lalit Bohra held a high-level meeting with Executive Director of NTPC Simhadri, Sameer Sharma. The discussions focused on improving infrastructure and maintenance activities, increasing rake availability, and reducing operational constraints to optimise operations. The DRM also conducted safety inspection at the Level Crossing (LC) gate in Jaggayyapalem, near NTPC. He reviewed safety procedures, inspected various records and interacted with the gateman to assess his knowledge and preparedness of various safety practices.
