Monday forecast: Hazy sunshine, temps rising to the mid-80s in Chicagoland

Weather Maps Interactive Radar Climate & Environment If you've been anxiously waiting for summertime weather in Chicagoland, your day has arrived. After a cool start early Monday morning, temperatures will rise all the way into the mid- to upper 80s by the afternoon, a good 10-plus degrees warmer than normal for June 2. We'll also have mostly sunny skies in Chicagoland, but it'll be hazy due to the Canadian wildfires that continue to burn and send smoke in our direction. There is no Air Quality Alert for Chicagoland to start Monday, but we'll keep an eye out if that changes. Winds out of the south will switch to south/southwest later Monday, with gusts up to 20 miles per hour, but it'll be even windier on Tuesday. And also warmer, as Tuesday highs will approach 90 in some parts of Chicagoland. Then it cools back down into the mid-60s for Wednesday, with rain likely. Weather Maps Climate & Environment Interactive Radar Weather Bug Cameras 7-Day Outlook Weather Center Newsletter After our long recent stretch of cooler-than-normal temps, we'll see a big spike to start this week, with hot and humid conditions more in line with mid- or late summer than the first days of June. As you can see below, temps in the mid- to upper 80s are 10-plus degrees warmer than normal for the first days of June. But we're in for a sharp dip on Wednesday, with temps possibly 10 degrees below normal. Things then look to level out close to seasonal averages as we get to the later part of this week and into the weekend. Climate and Environment news: Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Pittsburgh's temperatures will warm up this week with wildfire smoke likely

Yesterday's highs struggled to make it out of the 50s for most of Western Pa. WEATHER LINKS: Current Conditions | School Closings & Delays | Submit Your Weather Photos This morning, June begins with an unseasonably chilly air mass across the region, with temperatures hovering in the upper 30s to mid-40s for most locations. The strongest cold air advection following yesterday's frontal passage has weakened. This, along with some more sun, will allow highs to easily reach the low to mid-60s for most today, which is still several degrees below normal. High temperatures on June 1, 2025 KDKA Weather Center As high pressure settles in tonight, skies will clear and temperatures will once again drop into the low 40s for most, with a few spots possibly in the upper 30s for Monday morning. There is an increasing potential for the Northern Lights to be viewed in our area after sunset through sunrise tomorrow due to a strong geomagnetic storm and its associated solar wind energizing particles in Earth's thermosphere. How you can potentially see the Northern Lights in the Pittsburgh on Sunday night into Monday morning. KDKA Weather Center As always, there is high uncertainty in the timing of when the northern lights will be most viewable, but those interested should keep an eye out between sunset tonight and Monday morning, and possibly again Monday night into Tuesday morning if the solar storm continues long enough. Skies should be free of clouds, and wildfire smoke should be out of the air, promoting optimal viewing. It will be cool as well with temperatures quickly dropping into the 50s and 40s after sunset. Low temperatures on Sunday night KDKA Weather Center Speaking of wildfire smoke, we will be watching a mass of Canadian wildfire smoke that has been in place across the Upper Midwest to slowly migrate eastward by Monday into Tuesday. This will leave a large part of our area with hazy skies Monday, Tuesday, and possibly Wednesday. How the wildfire smoke will impact our area KDKA Weather Center As of now, it appears that the smoke should remain aloft in the atmosphere on Monday, but sinking air Monday night into Tuesday could allow for some smoke to mix down to the surface, creating air quality issues. Outside of the smoke, temperatures will warm back to well above normal levels through the middle part of the week, although the smoke could mute how high temperatures could theoretically reach. Mid to upper 80s are likely on Wednesday and Thursday. A series of disturbances and a slow-moving frontal boundary will bring a chance of showers and storms beginning in Northwest Pa., on Thursday. Rain chances over the next week KDKA Weather Center The better chance of rain and storms looks to be on Friday as the front moves across our area. Right now, this doesn't appear to be a classic severe weather setup, but we are in peak season, so this does bear watching. 7-day forecast: June 1, 2025 KDKA Weather Center Stay up to date with the KDKA Mobile App – which you can download here!

A breezy and cooler Saturday ahead of warmer temperatures in Pittsburgh, but wildfire smoke looms

The steady moderate to heavy rain from Friday has departed the region this morning, but skies will remain mostly cloudy today with breezy conditions and lingering rain showers. WEATHER LINKS: Current Conditions | School Closings & Delays | Submit Your Weather Photos Most areas north of Pittsburgh received around 0.25" or less over the last 24 hours; the Pittsburgh airport received 0.60", and the highest totals, as anticipated, occurred across our southern zones, with places like Morgantown receiving over 2". High temperatures and rain chances on Saturday KDKA Weather Center There will be some scattered lingering rain showers today through noon-1 p.m. Strong northwesterly winds will advect unseasonably cool air into the region. This will prevent daytime highs from reaching 60 in many spots, which is around 15 degrees or so below normal. The highest wind gusts could achieve 30mph in the afternoon and evening, so it won't necessarily be the nicest of late spring days. By Saturday night into Sunday, skies will slowly begin to clear, and winds will lighten up. Low temperatures on Saturday night KDKA Weather Center Most folks will see low to mid-40s for lows on Sunday with highs in the mid-60s by Sunday afternoon. A stray is possible during the midday to early afternoon hours in our northeast counties; otherwise, expect a partly cloudy sky and continued steady breeze out of the west around 10-15mph. Skies will clear Sunday night into Monday, and high pressure should leave us with several days of dry a nice weather to start next week. Lows will be in the mid-40s Monday morning before warming temperatures take hold for the middle portion of the week. We will be watching a mass of Canadian wildfire smoke that has been in place across the Upper Midwest to slowly migrate eastward by Monday into Tuesday. This could leave part of the region with smoky/hazy conditions. Looking ahead to potential wildfire smoke in our region early next week KDKA Weather Center At the moment, it is too soon to determine air quality impacts, but this is something we will watch. Temperatures will soar well into the 80s, and higher dewpoints will also move in. This will lead us into a more unsettled pattern between June 4-11 timeframe with the potential for storms and warmer air. 7-day forecast: May 31, 2025 KDKA Weather Center Stay up to date with the KDKA Mobile App – which you can download here!

Forecast: Mostly cloudy, hazy; scattered showers, storms possible

Weather Maps Interactive Radar Climate & Environment Friday Night: Scattered showers and thunderstorms during the evening then clouds scatter late. Winds: Northwest shifting north 15-25 mph, subsiding late. Low: 56. The weekend begins with a few morning clouds, but they will quickly diminish allowing for mostly sunny skies to emerge by afternoon. It will be a good deal cooler, especially along the lakefront, as cool, Canadian high pressure settles into the area with a north to northeast flow off Lake Michigan where water temperatures remain chilly. Highs Saturday will hold in the 60s for much of the metro area except far west and southwest suburban areas where peak readings will reach the lower 70s. Skies will continue to be a bit hazy at times due to Canadian wildfire smoke being directed into the Chicago area. NOAA-GOES-19 satellite depicts the area of smoke in the lighter gray shading which nearly encompasses all of Minnesota and Iowa. Dozens of large out-of-control wildfires continue burning across Canada. Weather Maps Climate & Environment Interactive Radar Weather Bug Cameras 7-Day Outlook Weather Center Newsletter Plenty of sunshine is on tap for Sunday and a return to warmer temperatures, especially inland where highs make a run towards 80-degrees. The weekend forecast looks quite hot across the West & Northern Plains. Record high temps are expected from Southern California to the Northern Rockies on Saturday. While across the East, a more spring-like temperature regime is in place with high temperatures in the Northeast 10-20 degrees below normal. A cool start to the weekend across the Chicago area but it won't last long as temperatures rebound quickly by Sunday with a return to summerlike warmth early next week Summerlike heat that's been dominating the West sends a prod of warmth into the Midwest and Great Lakes early next week with highs 10-20 degrees above normal Dry weather takes hold for several days before the next chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives late Tuesday into Wednesday as a cold front slides through the area. Some beneficial rainfall possible for the Chicago area with even heavier totals forecast across the south central Plains A large portion of the Chicago metro area now sits in 'moderate drought'. The area of moderate drought statewide grew from just over 17% a week ago to nearly 23% in the latest outlook. May-2025 has been quite dry for much of the state! Many areas have seen less than half of their normal rainfall with 2-4 inch deficits for the month pretty common. Climate and Environment news: Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Pittsburgh's cool weather pattern continues through the weekend

Yesterday was the 12th day in a row that we have seen temperatures at or below average in Pittsburgh. WEATHER LINKS: Current Conditions | School Closings & Delays | Submit Your Weather Photos Don't expect us to break the streak through the weekend with highs not expected to hit the 70s either today, Saturday, or Sunday. It doesn't mean that the weather will be bad, but it isn't exactly pool weather either. Conditions in the Pittsburgh area today, May 30, 2025 KDKA Weather Center We do warm up next week, and we will see a string of 80-degree weather starting on Tuesday. Today's big weather story is rain heading our way, with Pittsburgh expected to see more than a half-inch of rain but less than three-quarters of an inch. We will see a little bit of sunshine right at sunrise (5:53 a.m.) before clouds move in around 8 a.m. Rain should arrive around noon in Pittsburgh, with rain showers around for the rest of the day. Rain chances over the next seven days KDKA Weather Center The rain will have an impact on our highs, with our high temperature today being hit right as the rain arrives. I have Pittsburgh hitting a high of around 68° near the expected arrival of rain at noon. By 5 p.m., temperatures should have dropped to around 60 degrees. We should get a little break from the rain for a couple of hours this evening and very early Saturday morning before the trough drops in from the north as cooler air moves back in. I can't rule out a couple of rumbles as the rain comes in, and rain showers should be expected through at least noon. Some rain could linger through maybe as late as 2 p.m. Skies will remain partly to mostly cloudy after that, but the rest of the day will be dry. There's a George Straight concert Saturday night, and it should be dry. Enjoy if you are going! Looking ahead, Sunday should be sunny but not exactly hot, with highs expected to hit the upper 60s. I have Saturday highs in just the low 60s, so Sunday will feel fantastic. Monday highs should return to the mid-70s (maybe even warmer) with highs back in the low 80s on Tuesday. May 16th was the last time we hit 80 degrees in Pittsburgh, a span of more than 2 weeks! It's going to be a while before we see that type of stretch again. 7-day forecast: May 30, 2025 KDKA Weather Center Stay up to date with the KDKA Mobile App – which you can download here!
