Horror golfball-sized hail & thunderstorm supercell pummels Austria shattering windows and flooding Alpine resort
A THUNDERSTORM unleashed golf ball-sized hail and torrential rain across Austria - after a trail of destruction in France. The terrifying supercell storm whipped through towns, shattering windows, flooding streets and causing nearly £8m worth of damage to agriculture. The hardest-hit regions were reportedly Styria, Tyrol, and Lower Austria. In Innsbruck, western Austria, hailstones up to 1.6 inches fell, while Tannheim in the Tyrolean Alps recorded over 60 litres of rain per square metre. Lightning strikes also caused fires in some places - in Wörgl, lightning set a family home ablaze, Die Presse reports. Fügen, in the Zillertal valley, experienced a severe hailstorm that flooded streets. Wind gusts reached 70 mph in Micheldorf, Upper Austria. Kurt Weinberger, chairman of the Austrian Hail Insurance, said the storms caused major damage to agriculture, according to Die Presse. South Korean navy patrol plane crashes in Pohang; explosion reported, rescue underway
South Korea plane crash (Video credits: X @WeatherMonitors) A South Korean navy patrol plane with four people on board crashed during a training flight on Thursday, the navy informed AP. The aircraft took off from its base in the southeastern city of Pohang at 1.43 PM but went down for reasons that remain unclear, according to an official statement. The navy said it is currently working to confirm the condition of the four individuals aboard and to determine the cause of the crash. Rescue workers and fire trucks were dispatched to the crash site after residents reported seeing an unidentified object falling from the sky followed by an explosion. Pohang's Nambu police station confirmed the aircraft involved was a navy patrol aircraft. However, authorities said it was too early to confirm whether there were any casualties or injuries.

Swiss village engulfed by landslide, 1 person missing
A mass of rock and ice engulfed part of a mountain village in Switzerland on Wednesday, authorities said. A local spokesman said one person was currently missing after the landslide near Blatten, in the southern Lötschental valley in the canton of Valais. The massive landslide was caused after a glacier partially collapsed in the Swiss Alps. "An unbelievable amount of material thundered down into the valley," said spokesperson, Matthias Ebener. Authorities had warned days ago that up to five million cubic meters of rock and debris could break off at any moment. The village's roughly 300 inhabitants were evacuated on May 19 after assessments from geologists established that a rockslide was imminent. Buildings and other infrastructure in Blatten were hit hard by the rockslide, Ebener said. A rare blizzard warning was issued for Montreal on Sunday afternoon, as a major winter storm swept through southern Quebec. A Colorado low tapped into ample Gulf moisture as it trekked east of the Great Lakes and towards southern and eastern portions of Quebec. Prime, heavy snowfall fell through much of the morning on Sunday, before really ramping up in intensity during the afternoon. Parts of the Eastern Townships could see snowfall rates of 2-4 cm/h lasting through the evening hours. Driving conditions are severely impacted as well. Near whiteout conditions have been reported across southern Quebec, creating hazardous driving and slowdowns. As the snow continues throughout the day on Sunday, conditions will continue to worsen, so do not travel unless you have to. DON'T MISS: Flight delays and cancellations have impacted Montreal as well. over 140 flights have been cancelled on Sunday, with delays likely to continue throughout the duration of the storm. As of 1 p.m., over 16 cm of snow was reported to have accumulated in Montreal, with more to follow as snowfall rates reach 5cm/hr as the storm progresses. The majority of the snow will end overnight Sunday, with some flurries continuing into Monday. Conditions will remain blustery after the storm—beware blowing snow and low visibility, especially in open areas, even after the snow tapers off Sunday night.
