New on Netflix July 5-11: our expert picks the 7 shows and movies to binge this week

Where I live the new TV schedule is slow, but Netflix gets new releases from around the world and so my weekly list of new movies and shows on Netflix takes us around the globe. As part of my job as What to Watch's streaming editor, every week I look through every new Netflix Original coming to the world's biggest streaming service, and pick a handful of the most-watch additions that people are bound to watch. I only include ones that would be worthy of our lists of the best Netflix shows and best Netflix movies, bringing you only the top picks. This week the list is of new Netflix Originals coming between Saturday, July 5 and Friday, July 11. Netflix's Trainwreck series of hour-long docs based on headline-grabbing events continues with The Real Project X, which lands on Tuesday, July 8. The name alludes to an American coming-of-age film called Project X. The doc looks at a 2012 party in Haren, Netherlands, in which a 16-year-old accidentally made a Facebook event listing public instead of private. What transpired was a party that saw tens of thousands of prospective attendees, and slowly turned into a riot on the streets. Releases on Tuesday, July 8 From Netherlands we move over to Mexico for The Gringo Hunters, which comes out on Wednesday, July 9 and tells a story inspired by real workers. The Gringo Hunters is about a Mexican police unit which hunts down American criminals escaping across the border. Over several episodes they'll investigate cases and try to bring to justice runaways. Releases on Wednesday, July 9 Back to Europe! New thriller series Under a Dark Sun is set in Provence, France, on a prestigious flower farm. The series is about a mother on the run who finds work as a picker at the farm, however she becomes the prime suspect in the murder case of the owner of the farm. As the case continues it emerges that she was the next in line for the estate as she has secret connections with the family who owns it. Releases on Wednesday, July 9 Netflix loves its Asian-made zombie movies and the latest one is called Ziam, which was made in Thailand and comes out this week. Ziam follows a retired boxer who gives up his job to spend time with his girlfriend. However, the doctor where this girlfriend works is attacked by zombies and so he must dust off his knuckles and use his boxing fortitude to fight through the creatures and rescue his partner. Releases on Wednesday, July 9 Netflix fans might recognize the lead of the new German thriller Brick, as Matthias Schweighöfer was also in Army of the Dead and Army of Thieves on the streamer back in 2021. The movie, which is possibly a sci-fi or a horror (The description isn't clear), is about the residents of an apartment building who wake up one day to find a giant wall blocking them in the building. The tenants need to work together to find a way out and work out what's happening to them. Releases on Thursday, July 10 The only American production of the week, Too Much is an anticipated rom-com series created by Lena Dunham which you can watch this week. Too Much is about a New York woman who's rapidly losing friends, and eventually her partner leaves her too. She decides to start again by moving to London and upon arriving, quickly finds a new partner. However this man has just as much wrong with him as she has with her, and they need to improve together if their relationship is going to work. Releases on Friday, July 11 We return to the Netherlands for our final Netflix Original for the week. Almost Cops is a Dutch buddy cop movie, as you can probably tell from the name. The film is set in Rotterdam and tells of an officer trying to make his neighborhood safer, who's paired with a demoted ex detective on the job. As they work they realize that they both knew a murdered person who was dear to them, so they team up to get to the bottom of the crime. Releases on Friday, July 11

Casualty viewers concerned for fan-favourite as they plea 'look after yourself'
Casualty viewers were left heartbroken as Stevie Nash (played by Elinor Lawless) returned to the ED. In the latest edge-of-your-seat episode of Casualty, viewers witnessed Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) returning to the ED post-cancer treatment. Advised by medical professionals to extend her rest period, a determined Stevie was keen to dive back into work regardless. Yet, when faced with an influx of overdose cases due to tainted drugs, she quickly found herself overwhelmed. While newcomer Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) initially promised his support for her shift, he was promptly swept away by other crises in the department. Audiences took to social media expressing their concern, with many feeling it may have been too premature for Stevie's return. One viewer expressed sympathy, commenting: "Sorry, Stevie. I don't think you're ready at all #Casualty" Meanwhile, another observed: "Stevie being thrown into the deep end on Day 1 #Casualty." A sympathetic comment read: "Poor Stevie rushed off her feet on Day 1" Another fan advised: "Stevie you shouldn't be back so soon actually I'm glad you are but please look after yourself." Echoing this sentiment, one person said: "Stevie really hasn't been supported back to work at all #casualty" While another commented: "Poor Stevie. Much too soon to come back to work." Someone else stated: "My heart breaks for Stevie #casualty" as another offered: "Tonight's episode is stressful." As the episode progressed, we saw Stevie confronting Flynn about his absence during her tumultuous comeback shift, though he assured her he believed in her capabilities and kept a watchful eye on her the entire time, reports Wales Online. As the drama on the show unveiled, it emerged the duo had past connections from their youthful days. Despite hints of a longstanding camaraderie, when Flynn advances romantically towards her, she is visibly unimpressed and promptly puts him in his place. The actress shared her insights on the anticipated reappearance in the series and Stevie's reaction to Flynn's ill-timed kiss. Elinor divulged to What to Watch: "I know, it's like, 'dude, read the room and smell the chlorine!' "Stevie is very much, 'What are you doing? !' She has seen him do this [in the past] to other women but out of pride she never went there. "It's a moment where she takes charge and tells him to back off! It's been great working with Olly to find the key to our characters' friendship." Although Stevie firmly rebuffed Flynn in the moment, viewers are left wondering if this could signal the start of a blossoming romance.

Casualty fans reel as character returns to BBC show 'too soon' During Saturday's instalment of Casualty, viewers saw Stevie Nash return to the BBC drama after taking time off for her chemotherapy treatment Emotions were at an all time high in the most recent instalment of Casualty as Stevie Nash (played by Elinor Lawless) came back to work after her cancer treatment. Although the medics advised her to take more time to rest, Stevie insisted on being ready to get stuck into work again. However, when the ED is flooded with overdose patients whose drugs were laced, she's rushed off of her feet. Despite newcomer Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) informing Stevie he'd be with her on the shift, he quickly disappears to deal with other emergencies. It wasn't long before viewers were saying the same thing, with many thinking it wasn't the right time for her to be back. One person said: "Sorry, Stevie. I don't think you're ready at all #Casualty" Another added: "Stevie being thrown into the deep end on Day 1 #Casualty." BBC viewers saw Stevie return to the drama on Saturday night During the programme, fans saw Stevie confront Flynn for leaving her alone during her first shift back, although he insisted she was capable and he had eyes on her to ensure she was on. As the show unfolded it transpires the pair know each other from their younger years. Although it seems as though they have a long-standing friendship, when Flynn made a move on her, she's less than impressed and quickly shuts him down. The fan-favourite was quick to shut down Flynn when he attempted to kiss her The actress spoke about her anticipated return to the BBC show and how Stevie felt about that kiss with Flynn. New on Netflix June 7-13: our TV expert picks 6 new movies and shows to stream this week

It's documentary week over at Netflix — unofficially, I might add, but with the start of a two-month season of documentary films and several other high-profile non-fiction releases, it's a great time to catch up on events in the real world. I'm What to Watch's streaming editor and every week, I look through the list of what's new on Netflix to create a curated list of the new Netflix Originals you should be watching. I only include ones that would be worthy of our lists of the best Netflix shows and best Netflix movies, bringing you only the top picks. This week my list covers new uploads arriving between Saturday, June 7 and Friday, June 13, inclusive. If you like the sound of something, add it to your watchlist, but even if it's not out yet Netflix hosts landing pages to near releases which you can use to set a reminder for when it releases. The docu-craze isn't exclusive to Netflix with most other streaming services focusing on non-fiction. The reason is that, during the summer months, there's often a lull in fiction and drama releases, however I've also included a romantic sci-fi movie and an action series if you want something that's fictional. So let's find you something to watch on Netflix this week... Netflix begins a season of one-per-week documentary movies about headline events with The Astroworld Tragedy, about a well-reported tragedy from 2021. TAT tells the tale of the 2021 crowd crush at the Astroworld music festival which ended in the deaths of 10 people. It examines what happened from the perspective of survivors and first responders featuring plenty of interviews along the way. Releases on Tuesday, June 10 Next up we've got a 90-minute movie from Mexico that Netflix is billing as a sci-fi-rom-com. Our Times is about two married physicists in 1966 who are a bit too good at their job, and accidentally end up travelling to 2025. One loves the modern day yet the other wants to return to the past, and they have to question whether their marriage is worth more than living in the time they feel comfortable. Releases on Wednesday, June 11 Our next documentary of the week is a French docuseries about a worldwide topic. Ahead of release there's no word on how many episodes. Cocaine Air: Smugglers at 30,000ft is about four French people who were arrested at Punta Ana airport in 2013 after they were discovered smuggling 700kg of cocaine. While none of them fit the bill of a drug smuggling heavyweight and they all pleaded innocence as to the owner of the coke, it prompted officials to dig deeper into what was happening. Releases on Wednesday, June 11 Here's a new documentary which likely needs no introduction: Titan: The OceanGate Disaster is Netflix's long-awaited movie about the infamous OceanGate submersible implosion from 2023. Titan will tell the story of the OceanGate company as its figurehead Stockton Rush tried to pioneer the industry of deep-sea tourism. This culminates in the Titan sub's disappearance which the documentary will also explore in detail. Releases on Wednesday, June 11 For a hot minute in 2023, Netflix crowned Arnold Schwarzenegger its "Chief Action Officer" as the Governator seemed poised to renew his career on the streamer. In practice this only really resulted in his TV show Fubar which gets a second season this week. In Fubar, Schwarzenegger plays a retired CIA operative who comes in from the cold and is forced to team up with his estranged daughter and her team of strange characters. In season 2 he's forced to save the world from a past lover with a bone to pick, but this nemesis is just as interested in ruining his relationships as the world. Releases on Thursday, June 12 The latest international version of Netflix's Too Hot To Handle is here, and it features a cast of 10 Spaniards looking for romance... or something else. As always, Too Hot to Handle tasks unwitting contestants of a romance reality show with abstaining from physical affection. A grand sum is on the line but the amount will drop every time the contestants break the rules, and the series is no stranger to having every penny drained from the pot. Releases on Friday, June 13

New on Netflix May 31-June 6: 7 new TV shows and movies to stream this week, picked by our editor

Want to find yourself something new on Netflix this week, for a binge-watch or just an evening's entertainment? I'm on the case. As part of my job as What to Watch's streaming editor, compile weekly lists of the best new additions that Netflix releases. This week, I'm looking at new shows, movies and specials that'll release on Netflix between Saturday, May 31 and Friday, June 6. Many of the Netflix Originals I pick end up on our list of the best Netflix shows and best Netflix movies. Not all of them but I want to give you multiple options depending on your taste. Netflix's overall list this week had quite a few returning shows but I wanted a balance of original and popular ones, so there's a fair blend here. There's lots of crime, but that's Netflix for you. So let's find you something to watch on Netflix this week: We begin the week in Spain, for a six-part crime drama about a former spy called Sara. Woman in the Shadows is about this woman who forces herself to return to the intelligence game because she wants to get revenge for the death of her son. However her task sees her having to confront some uncomfortable facts about who her son really was. Releases on Tuesday, June 3 Shaquille O'Neal probably needs no introduction, but the famous basketball player has since his sporting days proven just as successful in business. And his new docuseries coming mid-week explores that side of him. Power Moves is a part-sport, part-business docuseries about Shaq's time leading the Reebok Basketball brand. He tries to revitalize it using his knowledge and passion for the game as well as his financial and branding acumen. Releases on Wednesday, June 4 A beloved though also divisive drama series returns to Netflix this week with Ginny & Georgia season 3, which gets all ten episodes of its new run at the same time. The show is about a mother and daughter (and the mother's other child) who try to find a way to settle down after being on the run for many years. In the season 2 finale, Georgia was arrested for murder, so season 3 will show Ginny trying to free her. Releases on Thursday, June 5 Shane Gillis' home-made workplace comedy Tires returns this week. The first season was made and funded by the divisive comedian and it was successful enough to get Netflix to create a second. Tires is about the workers of an auto shop who struggle to keep in business despite the incompetent and nervous owner, and the slacking attitude of everyone else. Season 2 follows them struggling to come to terms with unexpected new success. Releases on Thursday, June 5 Another Korean action series lands on Friday, June 6 with Mercy for None, which is set among Seoul's seedy criminal underbelly. Mercy for None tells the story of Gi-jun, who was a mob enforcer but left his brother and that life (and the city) behind over a decade ago. However when his brother is killed, Gi-jun returns to the city to find the murderer, a journey which involves fighting lots of the gang members. Releases on Friday, June 6 His partnership with Netflix mostly focuses on TV shows, but prolific creator Tyler Perry has a new movie arriving on Friday, June 6 which he wrote and directed. Straw is about a single mother called Janiyah whose daughter is sick. Janiyah is struggling to keep caring for the child and something happens which pushes her to the edge. Releases on Friday, June 6 We travel to Australia for our final series of the week, which is based on a book by Jane Harper. The Survivors stars Charlie Vickers and Yerin Ha and it's set in a fictional town in Tasmania. The Survivors is about a young boy who leaves said town after the mysterious death of two children and the disappearance of a third. Fifteen years later he returns to the town, this time with a wife and young baby in tow. However another murder takes place, and it sparks off an investigation which seems linked to the last crime. Secrets are revealed which affect the man and his family. Releases on Friday, June 6
