New on Netflix June 7-13: our TV expert picks 6 new movies and shows to stream this week

It's documentary week over at Netflix — unofficially, I might add, but with the start of a two-month season of documentary films and several other high-profile non-fiction releases, it's a great time to catch up on events in the real world. I'm What to Watch's streaming editor and every week, I look through the list of what's new on Netflix to create a curated list of the new Netflix Originals you should be watching. I only include ones that would be worthy of our lists of the best Netflix shows and best Netflix movies, bringing you only the top picks. This week my list covers new uploads arriving between Saturday, June 7 and Friday, June 13, inclusive. If you like the sound of something, add it to your watchlist, but even if it's not out yet Netflix hosts landing pages to near releases which you can use to set a reminder for when it releases. The docu-craze isn't exclusive to Netflix with most other streaming services focusing on non-fiction. The reason is that, during the summer months, there's often a lull in fiction and drama releases, however I've also included a romantic sci-fi movie and an action series if you want something that's fictional. So let's find you something to watch on Netflix this week... Netflix begins a season of one-per-week documentary movies about headline events with The Astroworld Tragedy, about a well-reported tragedy from 2021. TAT tells the tale of the 2021 crowd crush at the Astroworld music festival which ended in the deaths of 10 people. It examines what happened from the perspective of survivors and first responders featuring plenty of interviews along the way. Releases on Tuesday, June 10 Next up we've got a 90-minute movie from Mexico that Netflix is billing as a sci-fi-rom-com. Our Times is about two married physicists in 1966 who are a bit too good at their job, and accidentally end up travelling to 2025. One loves the modern day yet the other wants to return to the past, and they have to question whether their marriage is worth more than living in the time they feel comfortable. Releases on Wednesday, June 11 Our next documentary of the week is a French docuseries about a worldwide topic. Ahead of release there's no word on how many episodes. Cocaine Air: Smugglers at 30,000ft is about four French people who were arrested at Punta Ana airport in 2013 after they were discovered smuggling 700kg of cocaine. While none of them fit the bill of a drug smuggling heavyweight and they all pleaded innocence as to the owner of the coke, it prompted officials to dig deeper into what was happening. Releases on Wednesday, June 11 Here's a new documentary which likely needs no introduction: Titan: The OceanGate Disaster is Netflix's long-awaited movie about the infamous OceanGate submersible implosion from 2023. Titan will tell the story of the OceanGate company as its figurehead Stockton Rush tried to pioneer the industry of deep-sea tourism. This culminates in the Titan sub's disappearance which the documentary will also explore in detail. Releases on Wednesday, June 11 For a hot minute in 2023, Netflix crowned Arnold Schwarzenegger its "Chief Action Officer" as the Governator seemed poised to renew his career on the streamer. In practice this only really resulted in his TV show Fubar which gets a second season this week. In Fubar, Schwarzenegger plays a retired CIA operative who comes in from the cold and is forced to team up with his estranged daughter and her team of strange characters. In season 2 he's forced to save the world from a past lover with a bone to pick, but this nemesis is just as interested in ruining his relationships as the world. Releases on Thursday, June 12 The latest international version of Netflix's Too Hot To Handle is here, and it features a cast of 10 Spaniards looking for romance... or something else. As always, Too Hot to Handle tasks unwitting contestants of a romance reality show with abstaining from physical affection. A grand sum is on the line but the amount will drop every time the contestants break the rules, and the series is no stranger to having every penny drained from the pot. Releases on Friday, June 13

New on Netflix May 31-June 6: 7 new TV shows and movies to stream this week, picked by our editor

Want to find yourself something new on Netflix this week, for a binge-watch or just an evening's entertainment? I'm on the case. As part of my job as What to Watch's streaming editor, compile weekly lists of the best new additions that Netflix releases. This week, I'm looking at new shows, movies and specials that'll release on Netflix between Saturday, May 31 and Friday, June 6. Many of the Netflix Originals I pick end up on our list of the best Netflix shows and best Netflix movies. Not all of them but I want to give you multiple options depending on your taste. Netflix's overall list this week had quite a few returning shows but I wanted a balance of original and popular ones, so there's a fair blend here. There's lots of crime, but that's Netflix for you. So let's find you something to watch on Netflix this week: We begin the week in Spain, for a six-part crime drama about a former spy called Sara. Woman in the Shadows is about this woman who forces herself to return to the intelligence game because she wants to get revenge for the death of her son. However her task sees her having to confront some uncomfortable facts about who her son really was. Releases on Tuesday, June 3 Shaquille O'Neal probably needs no introduction, but the famous basketball player has since his sporting days proven just as successful in business. And his new docuseries coming mid-week explores that side of him. Power Moves is a part-sport, part-business docuseries about Shaq's time leading the Reebok Basketball brand. He tries to revitalize it using his knowledge and passion for the game as well as his financial and branding acumen. Releases on Wednesday, June 4 A beloved though also divisive drama series returns to Netflix this week with Ginny & Georgia season 3, which gets all ten episodes of its new run at the same time. The show is about a mother and daughter (and the mother's other child) who try to find a way to settle down after being on the run for many years. In the season 2 finale, Georgia was arrested for murder, so season 3 will show Ginny trying to free her. Releases on Thursday, June 5 Shane Gillis' home-made workplace comedy Tires returns this week. The first season was made and funded by the divisive comedian and it was successful enough to get Netflix to create a second. Tires is about the workers of an auto shop who struggle to keep in business despite the incompetent and nervous owner, and the slacking attitude of everyone else. Season 2 follows them struggling to come to terms with unexpected new success. Releases on Thursday, June 5 Another Korean action series lands on Friday, June 6 with Mercy for None, which is set among Seoul's seedy criminal underbelly. Mercy for None tells the story of Gi-jun, who was a mob enforcer but left his brother and that life (and the city) behind over a decade ago. However when his brother is killed, Gi-jun returns to the city to find the murderer, a journey which involves fighting lots of the gang members. Releases on Friday, June 6 His partnership with Netflix mostly focuses on TV shows, but prolific creator Tyler Perry has a new movie arriving on Friday, June 6 which he wrote and directed. Straw is about a single mother called Janiyah whose daughter is sick. Janiyah is struggling to keep caring for the child and something happens which pushes her to the edge. Releases on Friday, June 6 We travel to Australia for our final series of the week, which is based on a book by Jane Harper. The Survivors stars Charlie Vickers and Yerin Ha and it's set in a fictional town in Tasmania. The Survivors is about a young boy who leaves said town after the mysterious death of two children and the disappearance of a third. Fifteen years later he returns to the town, this time with a wife and young baby in tow. However another murder takes place, and it sparks off an investigation which seems linked to the last crime. Secrets are revealed which affect the man and his family. Releases on Friday, June 6

New on Netflix May 24-30: 6 new shows, movies and specials picked by our expert

Whether you're looking for drama, documentary or romance, Netflix has got you covered this week with a range of new additions arriving, and we'll help you find the best to watch. As What to Watch's streaming editor, my job is to keep an eye on everything coming to Netflix to see what's worth watching or reporting on, and every week I compile a curated list of the must-watch new additions. This week's list covers new Netflix Originals coming between Saturday, May 24 and Friday, May 30. Some of these shows could end up on our list of the best Netflix shows and best Netflix movies, and I've picked a range of options so that you'll find something, whatever you're into. There's the usual mix of content then, with a stand-up show, true crime documentary, sporting docuseries, crime drama, Euro-thriller and animated story. So let's find you something to watch on Netflix this week. First up this week is the three-part true crime docuseries Cold Case: The Tylenol Murders as a spiritual successor to last year's Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey. The new series tells the story of Chicago's 1982 bout of poisonings, which saw seven people die after consuming Tylenol (a US painkiller) that was laced with cyanide. This case sparked a huge investigation to identify the perpetrator, while also affecting people's trust in over-the-counter medication. Will Netflix get to the bottom of the case? You can probably tell based on the name but it'll teach you all about the case at least. Releases on Monday, May 26 American comedian and Orange is the New Black actor Mike Birbiglia gets his fourth Netflix stand-up special with The Good Life, which releases this week. The Good Life will see Birbiglia make jokes and tell stories about how his dad has affected his own parenting, and how his father's health makes him more conscious about his own pancake consumption. Releases on Monday, May 26 A new series for fans of Drive to Survive arrives this week, with all episodes of F1: The Academy streaming at once. F1: The Academy looks at the women learning to be Formula 1 drivers in the same-titled F1 Academy. It'll follow 15 of them as they compete to be crowned the top drivers while the leader of the academy tries to champion the role of women in the motorsport. Releases on Wednesday, May 28 Dept. Q is a new British police series based on a franchise of Danish noir novels (which have already seen numerous movie versions), which transplants the action from Scandinavia to Scotland. The story follows a disgraced Edinburgh detective who's assigned to Department Q, a cold case unit. Instead of seeing it as a career death he turns around the department as it welcomes other new workers, and together they solve the case of a civil servant who disappeared. Releases on Thursday, May 29 Coming from Korea we've got a new romance anime movie, which is apparently the streamer's first "Korean Original Animated Film". Lost in Starlight is set in 25 years time and it follows the blossoming romance between an astronaut who fails her test to go to Mars, and a musician who's unable to make it big. Together they rekindle each other's passion in their dreams, which goes awry when the astronaut is given a second chance to go to Mars. Releases on Friday, May 30 Another international movie to end the week, and this one is a Spanish thriller set in 2017. A Widow's Game is about an investigation into the stabbing of a Valencia man, which quickly seems to have been carried out by his wife. As the picture becomes more clear, it seems that the widow has her own plans which may not involve getting caught. Releases on Friday, May 30

'They don't make movies like this anymore': John Krasinski and Natalie Portman on their new Guy Ritchie movie Fountain of Youth

Director Guy Ritchie is delivering pulse-pounding stunts, exotic locations and Indiana Jones-style mysteries in new action-adventure movie, Fountain of Youth, streaming on Apple TV Plus from May 23. The globe-trotting caper follows squabbling siblings Luke (John Krasinski) and Charlotte Purdue (Natalie Portman), treasure hunters who reunite for a wild expedition to unearth age-old secrets and locate the mythological fountain of youth. Luke is a daring, rule-breaking artifact hunter, while Charlotte enjoys her grounded, stable life as an art curator in London. But when Luke steals artwork from his sister's gallery and upends her whole world, Charlotte has little choice but to join Luke's madcap mission funded by mysterious billionaire Owen Carver (Domhnall Gleeson). As their puzzle-solving heist spans Bangkok, Vienna, London and Cairo, hot on their trail are the Thai mafia, Interpol and a dangerous secret sect led by the enigmatic Esmé (Eiza González). What to Watch chatted with John Krasinski, 45, and Natalie Portman, 43, to find out more… John: 'Characters like Luke don't come along very often. He's a fun-hearted, adventurous spirit and sees Charlotte as a stick in the mud. But I think everyone becomes a Guy Ritchie action hero once Guy has time with the character. I've loved this experience from head-to-toe because of him.' Natalie: 'I'm an only child and have always dreamt of having a brother, but not the sort who would drag me into trouble like Luke! Charlotte got married, had a kid and decided to have this safe, controlled life. There's a lot of sibling rivalry, but she rediscovers the beauty of adventure with him.' Natalie: 'Absolutely! Anything I've done on this scale before has had so much CGI, but most of the action is in real places with real people. We were filming car stunts in Liverpool and you'll see genuine terror and screaming from me because we were really whipping around corners in a chase.' John: 'I've done action sequences before but nothing on this scale. A perfect example is the fight I have with Eiza González in Vienna. I've been in fight scenes, but never in a national library flying a drone around. It was surreal and really fun.' John: 'Seeing these places up close and shooting at the base of the Great Pyramids was thrilling. It was a long shoot with a lot of travelling, but my kids were with us in Vienna. They loved Guy Ritchie and were hanging out in his trailer.' Natalie: 'I wish we'd had more time in these incredible places. The Pyramids is by far the most insane location I've ever shot at.' John: 'Well, they don't make movies like this anymore, but to be in a Guy Ritchie version of this genre is what made it so unique and fun for me. It's the movie I got into this industry for, and I hope all the fun we had making it pops through the screen. It's so family-friendly, even my own kids can't wait to see it.' Natalie: 'Guy knows how to entertain and this is the sort of escapism we need right now. I've never experienced this scale on any film: it's the kind of epic family adventure that we don't get to see these days. It's also unusual to have a film led by siblings of opposite genders.' John: 'We had this conversation every day in Guy's trailer. For me, the fountain is more of an idea of enlightenment, as you realise that you're living in a moment that is potentially the most joyful of your life, so act accordingly. I'd look for ways to find happiness in my life rather than constantly search for something I don't have.' Natalie: 'I love the metaphor that the external search for it symbolises an internal desire to recapture the wonder, passion and adventure of youth. All we really want is to feel that excitement and awe of the world.' Fountain of Youth is available to stream on Apple TV Plus from Friday, May 23.

"Never Too Late": Local news anchor fulfills dream of anchoring network news
CBS Colorado anchor Michelle Griego always dreamed of anchoring a network TV show since she was a child. As a kid, she anchored a kids' news show in Denver. "I was in a talent agency, I went on an audition to a kids' news show, got the part and then I just started anchoring for two-and-a-half years at the age of 11," Griego said. "I fell in love with storytelling. I fell in love with interviewing people and I just knew that's what I wanted to do." In the latest installment of "Never Too Late," Griego fulfills her lifelong dream with "CBS Mornings." On Thursday, she filled in for "CBS Mornings" featured host Vladimir Duthiers on "What to Watch." Griego has worked for CBS News for 20 years in both Denver and the San Francisco Bay area. But her most important job she said is being a mother to her three daughters, ages 25, 17 and 9. "I want to show my girls you can dream big and no matter where life takes them, it is never too late," Griego said.
