Subi Blooms: Claire Mueller of ACID.FLWRS will stun WA with interactive experience at Mother's Day festival

Subiaco is set to bloom with life, colour and art this May, giving families the perfect way to celebrate Mother's Day. WA's iconic floral festival, Subi Blooms, will return for its seventh year transforming Subiaco into a captivating wonderland of colour and natural art from Friday May 9 until Sunday May 11. This years floral trail will be made up of 15 installations connected by one central theme — Roots to Bloom. The theme encourages florists to explore and express their cultural, spiritual and physical connections to the world while reflecting on the bonds that link people to nature and heritage. 'This year's theme, 'Roots to Bloom,' perfectly encapsulates Subiaco—where rich heritage meets vibrant growth,' City of Subiaco Mayor David McMullen said. 'We are set to attract people from all corners of the metropolitan area, and will show people what Subi has on offer year-round.' Perth-born artist Claire Mueller is one of the 30 florists involved in the event, and for her 'Roots to Bloom' is all about personal reflection, connection, and wonder. Ms Mueller — known for her work as — created an installation for the festival designed to connect generations. 'I wanted to do something that had a lot of discovery moments and moments for connection and reflection on the self,' she said. 'For me, it's an opportunity for people to take a moment to reflect on their own journeys and the multiple influences that have come together to make each of us unique flowers,' she said. Ms Mueller's instillation is made up of three parts — XOX, The Arch, and Kalidescope — that each embody her distinct visual language, and bright marbled patterns. The acclaimed artist's instillation represents her personal reflections on life but also allows the public to join in on the creativity through the interactive experience. People can step inside the interactive installation ahead of the festival, and it will be on display from April 25 until May 25. The 2025 Subi blooms festival will feature exciting new attractions such as a fresh flower vending machine and curated program events. Festival goers will be able to enjoy delicious food and drinks in the Gather Village. Subi Blooms joined with Gather: A Floral Community to bring WA this years spectacular showcase of floral artistry. No flower will go to waste and when the weekend comes to an end leftover blooms will be repurposed into bouquets for expecting mothers at King Edward Memorial Hospital and St John of God Subiaco. People can attend the free event from 12pm on Friday May 9 until Sunday May 11.

PAFA won't leave young players in the lurch after Perak's pullout

PETALING JAYA: The Perak Football Association (PAFA) are ready to help young Perak players following the club's decision to pull out of next year's Super League. PAFA president Datuk Mohd Azhar Jamaluddin said the association respected owners XOX's decision to withdraw from the league due to financial constraints faced by the company. 'The association take note of XOX's decision to dissolve the team and withdraw from the Super League,' he said. 'PAFA deeply appreciates and extends its sincere gratitude to XOX for their contribution to the team. 'We also sympathise with the issues faced by Perak players, especially the young players. PAFA will assist within their capabilities, especially in football development and the careers of young Perak players.'' Despite the team being dissolved, Azhar said football will continue to grow in the state through grassroots development efforts carried out by the association. 'Currently, PAFA are forming the upcoming Malaysia Games (Sukma) team while also providing experience to the team by allowing them to compete in the A1 orA2 league. 'We will also seek advice from the state government, Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), Malaysian Football League (MFL), and Amateur Football League (AFL) on the next steps to be taken,' he said. On Saturday, Perak chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi said the owners XOX had officially withdrawn from next season's Super League, ending the team's journey.

Karathu can't believe what's happening to Perak

From glory to sorry days: Perak players celebrating with then coach Karl Weigang after they won the Malaysia Cup in 2000. Inset: Datuk M. Karathu, an iconic figure in Perak football, expressed his dismay over the club's decline. PETALING JAYA: Perak's exit from the M-League next season is a big shame. Veteran coach Datuk M. Karathu, an iconic figure in Perak football, expressed his dismay over the club's decline. Karathu said it was shocking to see such a proud team, an eight-time Malaysia Cup champion, brought to the brink of collapse. 'Perak is a name respected across Malaysian football. This should not be happening,' he said. Yesterday, Perak dropped a bombshell when they announced that they are out of next year's Super League. Owners XOX have officially pulled out for the first time in a century. Perak football, founded in 1921 (104 years ago), had played in every league until now. They have won the Malaysia Cup eight times. Karathu, 82, who coached Perak on four occasions, blamed the management's inexperience and a lack of football expertise. 'I got the news through WhatsApp groups,' he said. 'I saw the management's statement - they claimed to have spent RM40 million but couldn't sustain the team. I believe inexperience played a big part. 'There were too many coaches compared to players. I saw a photo - it looked like there were two players for every coach! 'That's not how you run a club, especially when facing financial difficulties.' Club chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi said the owners XOX Bhd had officially withdrawn from next season's Super League, bringing the state team's journey to a sad closure. 'We started with big dreams – to build something sustainable, something Perakians could be proud of. We believed that with your support, we could create a club that weren't just competitive, but rooted in community and passion,' said Azmi in a statement. 'We walked into a club burdened by nearly RM8mil in unpaid wages from the past. We cleared that, and we gave everything we had – time, belief, and nearly RM40mil over three years. 'But the reality is that the support we needed didn't grow the way we hoped. Support from Perak's public and private sectors never came in and the expected growth in Perak's subscriber base fell very short of expectations. 'The internal funds have now dried up, and we just can't keep going. 'Whatever funds remain - from merchandise, league dues, and our final budget – will go towards settling what we owe. It will not be enough, but it's all we have left.' Azim said the team will continue to operate by selling their remaining merchandise, to raise funds. Azim said the club were for sale and has asked any conglomerates or businesses to come forward and state their interest.

Stacey Solomon unveils Barbie spray paint makeover at home: 'Here she is'

Stacey Solomon has been teasing glimpses of the latest step in her home makeover, and on Monday she revealed she was finally "ready" to share the end result. Panning around her utility room, Stacey called the Barbie-pink transformation of her previously mint green room "the best decision I've ever made", and while fans lapped up the floor-to-ceiling rose-hued room, there was another detail that captured the attention of Stacey's home-loving fans. While Stacey goes DIY for much of her interior overhauls, she called in the big guns for her utility room, revealing that she hired a company to spray paint the cupboards. Take a peek at the makeover below... "We got the amazing James at XOX to spray it on as we've found it's a lot more durable," Stacey wrote in her newsletter. With a busy family, durability is certainly important, and spray-painting is a hardwearing choice, with XOX confirming it has an expected life span of between five and eight years, explaining: "We use durable products that are able to withstand the rough and tumble of the busy family kitchen." Sharing an insight into Stacey's makeover, XOX wrote: "The colour is Sunset Pink and my god it really is a statement in the utility room. "I genuinely love being able to transform my clients' homes and make their space exactly what they envisaged. It was no different with Pickle Cottage, what a beautiful space the utility room is now in Sunset Pink," they elaborated. While the price of XOX's spray painting services isn't listed on the website, they do say that they "modernise the look of your home on a budget", suggesting it's not too pricey a project – and we all know Stacey loves to be thrifty! That said, while Stacey knows her way around a bargain, she is known to splash out on occasion, especially when it comes to her daughter's bedrooms. Rose and Belle's pretty pink bedroom is heaven for the little girls – and it has some seriously luxe touches. As well as Disney prints and bedding, Rose and Belle's room has high-end scents in it, with a £168 Diptyque candle and Floral Street reed diffusers giving their bedroom a welcoming scent.
