'KGF' makers release official statement rubbishing reports of Yash not being first choice for film:'He will always be our Rocky Bhai'

Hombale Films, the production house of the Yash-starrer ' KGF ' film franchise, has responded to the speculative reports suggesting that the actor was not the first choice for the film. The studio has released a statement about the same to clarify things on the matter. Here, take a look. Hombale Films reveals if Yash was the first choice for the 'KGF' film franchise: 'We have not…' In a statement to the Hindustan Times, the makers revealed that they have a "long-standing partnership" with the actor, longer than with any other star. The producers stated that Yash is part of the family. Addressing the reports online, the statement added, "'KGF' was envisioned with Yash in mind, and for us, he will always be our Rocky Bhai. We were always in touch with several other actors pan-India for different key roles in 'KGF 1. ' Any reports or rumors claiming that Yash was not the first choice for KGF are incorrect." The statement concluded with the makers revealing that they had not made any such comments about the actor not being the first choice. Ramayana Teaser Out: Ranbir Kapoor's first look as Ram, Yash as Ravan in mythological epic; credits are a reminder of Game of Thrones

Ramayana First Look Teaser Out: Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash-starrer Ramayana dropped its first look on Thursday. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the three-minute teaser shows an elaborate slate of visual effects but it is only towards the end of the teaser that we see a glimpse of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as Ravan. The three-minute video is accompanied by the music of Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman. As the Ramayana teaser moves on, it might remind one of the opening credits of shows like Game of Thrones as we see a list of credits, in a similar format. However, we don't see any actual footage from the film. The teaser opens with the introduction of the three gods of Hinduism — Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, and their role in mythology, and moves on to establish the war between Ram and Ravan as the 'war to end all wars.' Ramayana is being promoted as, 'Our Truth, Our Story'. The behind-the-scenes images featuring Ranbir with Sai were circulated on the internet a few months ago and since then, there has been a lot of anticipation about his participation in the film. For Ranbir, this will be his first time playing a mythological character. Before him, Baahubali star Prabhas played the same role in Adipurush but he did not get audience's vote of confidence in that film. Sai Pallavi, who is one of the most accomplished actors from the southern film industry, will be seen as Sita here. Sai has also played a lead role in Aamir Khan's production Ek Din, also starring Junaid Khan. But her role in Ramayana could be seen as a career defining role for the actor. For many audience members in the northern part of India, this will be their introduction to Sai Pallavi. Yash, best known for his KGF films, will be playing Ravan in the film. Yash is also the co-producer of the film. In an earlier chat with The Hollywood Reporter India, Yash spoke about the character and said, 'It's a very fascinating character. I wouldn't have done it for any other reason. In Ramayana, if you had asked me 'would you play any other character?' Probably not. For me, Ravan is the most exciting character to play as an actor so I really like the shades and the nuances of particular character. There's vast scope to present it in a very different way. As an actor, I am very excited. Hopefully, it's going to be a very unique approach to it.' Apart from the three lead actors, the film also stars Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, Arun Govil are also a part of the film's cast. As per an earlier report by Bollywood Hungama, it was suggested that the film is being made on a budget of Rs 835 crore. This makes Ramayana the most expensive Indian film to date. Before Ramayana, Kalki 2898 AD, which starred Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 600 crore. Adipurush, which was also an iteration of Ramayana, was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 500 crore. Adipurush starred Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon. It has been suggested that Ramayana will be a two-part project. The first part will release during Diwali 2026 and the second part will release during Diwali 2027.

Huma Qureshi: The ‘Maharani' of reinvention

Huma Qureshi has had a lot brewing lately. As if her acting duties weren't enough, she has donned the cape of a producer, written a novel that she hopes to adapt into a feature, and is developing a sari also the passion project of celebrating the 50th anniversary of Saleem's, her father's famous restaurant in New Delhi. At India Today's Indo-UAE Conclave 2025 in Dubai recently, Qureshi said she's enjoying her current state of 'exploration'. It has seen her as the face of one of streaming's popular and longest-running series in Maharani (on SonyLIV) and amassing quite an upcoming roster with a new season of Delhi Crime, a new edition of the Jolly LLB franchise, and being part of the highly-anticipated Yash-starrer two kids who came from Delhi not knowing a single person in Mumbai to have reached this far has been nothing short of magical,' said Qureshi of her and brother Saqib Saleem's journey in the Hindi film industry. 'Despite all claims of the industry being so closed, it still opened its arms to both of us and gave a lot of opportunities.'Qureshi has been riding the streaming wave successfully, having been part of Leila and Mithya as well as the beloved Netflix film Monica, O My Darling, where her titular act of a femme fatale, unlike one she's done before, won her much appreciation. 'I just like to have fun with my characters. The only rule I have is that I will never repeat myself,' said Qureshi. Her stubbornness, she noted, came in handy as she has worked towards picking parts that break stereotypes. 'I guess anytime someone said you can't, mustn't and shouldn't do this, I have always questioned 'Why not?' That's the key defining factor for me as an artiste and an individual,' she mentality took her far and helped cope with challenges. There have been doubts, mistakes committed and comparisons made, but what's worked is that she decided 'to be true to yourself'. Qureshi won't let industry expectations of appearance weigh her down or determine her choices.'Why am I expected to always try and look younger than who I am? If a great script comes my way, I should say no to it because I am afraid of portraying someone who is a few years older than me?' Instead, Qureshi, 38, takes control of her own narrative, be it being one of the first to ride the OTT wave to leave a distinct mark on all her characters. Her only grouse—she wants more dancing parts. 'I am such a good dancer,' she said. 'It's such an unfortunate thing. Can we start a petition?'HUMA UNCUT@INDO-UAE CONCLAVE* 'Every time someone tries to put me in a box, I am like 'No, give me a reason why?''* 'There are parts I can do but I don't get the calls. So what do I do? Sit at home and cry ki mujhe mauka nahin mil raha hai? I am not going to lament. I am going to go out there, take control of my own narrative and choose the stories I want to tell and the filmmakers I want to work with.'advertisement* 'I feel like now we are in the 2.0 era of the OTT revolution where we need to rethink what kind of stories we are putting out there and who we want to reach.'* 'For sure female-led shows and films are doing extremely well. But I will give you something to chew on. I am part of one of the most-watched-and-loved show Maharani, but am I getting paid as much as the male counterparts who are doing shows? Far from it.'* 'I just like to have fun with my characters. The only rule I have is that I will never repeat myself.'Subscribe to India Today Magazine

Upendra: My son Aayush got his debut purely on merit

21-year-old Aayush is stepping into the film industry, a world deeply familiar to him, since he is the son of Upendra and Priyanka Upendra, two stalwarts of Kannada cinema. Aayush is set to make his debut in a film produced by Abhishek Sirivantha and directed by Purushotham, known for helming the Yash-starrer Modala Sala (2010). But unlike typical star-kid launches, this film began rather quietly without much fanfare, with a simple script pooja. 'We wanted it to be simple, much like how life should be,' says Upendra. Upendra expressed his happiness about how Aayush doesn't just want to ride on his lineage but chart his own course. 'All I want is for my children to be happy,' Upendra shares, adding, 'Even if Aayush chose not to work at all and found peace in that, I'd support it. This career is his choice entirely.' Joining him behind the scenes is his sister, Aishwarya, stepping in as an assistant director. From scripting to editing, she's immersing herself in the creative process. 'It's like an internship,' says Upendra. 'She's exploring what storytelling means to her.' Upendra points out that more than just the debuts of his children, the crew's bonding makes it all the more special. 'Producer Abhishek, director Purushotham, and cinematographer Venu—they're people I know well. Venu is like family. And with Aayush and Aishwarya on board, it's even more special.' Asked if he ever considered directing his son's first film, Upendra quips, 'No. I've never believed in planning too much. If something has to happen, it will. I came into this industry without expectations—just a desire to do something meaningful and give back to society. Aayush was chosen purely on his merit. The director saw something in him and approached him directly. He's entering on his own.' 'Every individual has their own journey. Mine was unplanned and unconventional. I hope the same freedom guides Aayush and Aishwarya,' says Upendra.
