Why Sabah PH-BN quiet on these MA63 issues?
Published on: Friday, May 16, 2025 Published on: Fri, May 16, 2025 Text Size: 'Upko and PBRS claim to be bridges to Putrajaya? They are more like pipelines draining Sabah's wealth straight to Kuala Lumpur,' Yong said. Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) accused the State's PH-BN coalition of staying silent on important oil and gas lawsuits while Sarawak aggressively challenges Federal laws in court. SAPP Supreme Council member cum Vice Youth Chief, lawyer Yong Yit Jee, dismissed claims by Upko and PBRS that they are securing Sabah's rights. Advertisement 'Sarawak is fighting tooth and nail in court, but Sabah PH-BN is using 'good relations' as an excuse while our resources are taken away,' Yong said. He pointed to the Petroleum Development Act 1974 (PDA1974) and Territorial Sea Act 2012 (TSA2012) as laws that have undermined Sabah and Sarawak's rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). The criticism comes as Sabah NGO Sabar mounts a legal challenge against TSA2012, a move the Sabah Chief Minister has supported, stating the State does not recognise the law. 'Upko and PBRS claim to be bridges to Putrajaya? They are more like pipelines draining Sabah's wealth straight to Kuala Lumpur,' Yong said. 'Sarawak sues, while Sabah PH-BN settles for handshakes and empty promises,' Yong said, questioning the two parties' impact where they boast about resolving 13 MA63 issues. He called out Upko's Federal minister, Datuk Ewon Benedick, for failing to amend PDA1974 or deliver the promised 40 per cent revenue formula by July 2024. 'It is now May 2025, where is the formula? Where is our money?' Yong said, referring to Ewon's September 2023 announcement. SAPP, which has long opposed PDA1974, TSA2012 and the loss of oil-rich Blocks L and M to Brunei, is now demanding Sabah PH-BN clarify its stance. 'Will they remain Federal puppets or finally stand with Sarawak to reclaim Sabah's full MA63 rights?' he said. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Sabah DAP's lies exposed: SAPP
Published on: Saturday, May 10, 2025 Published on: Sat, May 10, 2025 Text Size: 'May I ask DAP both national and Sabah is this what they call autonomy? Sabah DAP cannot even decide its own seat allocations. Everything is determined in Kuala Lumpur, yet they continue to claim they are autonomous?' Yong asked. Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Supreme Council member and Vice Youth Chief Yong Yit Jee slammed the Democratic Action Party (DAP) over its participation in the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional seat arrangement for the coming Sabah state election, calling it a 'direct blow to Sabah DAP's long-claimed autonomy'. 'In November last year, DAP's Sec-Gen declared that Sabah DAP had been granted autonomy to negotiate its own cooperation. Yet, barely six months later, the Unity Government's latest statement proves that was a false promise,' said Yong, referring to the joint statement issued by the Unity Government's Secretariat on Friday. Yong pointed out that the statement mentioned that all final decisions would be made by the top leaderships of PH and BN at the national level. 'May I ask DAP both national and Sabah is this what they call autonomy? Sabah DAP cannot even decide its own seat allocations. Everything is determined in Kuala Lumpur, yet they continue to claim they are autonomous?' he said. He said Sabah DAP's inconsistency is further exposed by their past denial of cooperation with Umno before the 2022 general election, only to now sit in the same government, and worse, follow top-down decisions from national party leadership. 'Sabah DAP has gone from denying alliances to becoming mere executors of KL's orders. The people of Sabah are not forgetful. 'One statement from the Unity Government has exposed all their falsehoods,' he said. Yong said Sabahans need a political party that will stand firmly on local rights and not serve as agents for Malayan parties. 'Sabah is not a vassal of Malayan parties. Decisions affecting our state should not come from distant KL. The people of Sabah deserve genuine autonomy and self-determination.' He called on Sabahans to support a truly local-based government in the upcoming polls. 'Now is the time for us Sabahans to unite and build the Sabah we rightfully deserve,' he said. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Sabah DAP's 'autonomy myth' shattered, says SAPP
Yong Yit Jee KOTA KINABALU (May 9): Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) criticised the arrangement of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) to jointly contest the upcoming Sabah state election, calling it a direct blow to Sabah DAP's long-standing claim that 'Sabah DAP has autonomy.' Its Supreme Council member cum Vice Youth chief, Yong Yit Jee, also exposed DAP central leadership's previous assurance of 'empowering' Sabah DAP as an empty promise. 'On 10 November 2024, DAP Secretary General personally declared that Sabah DAP had been granted autonomy to negotiate its own cooperation. Yet in just half a year, the latest announcement by the Unity Government has completely proven that to be false,' he said in a statement today. Yong pointed out that in the official statement released by the secretariat of the Unity Government on 9 May 2025, it is clearly stated: 'Segala keputusan akan dimuktamadkan oleh kepimpinan tertinggi Pakatan Harapan dan Barisan Nasional di peringkat kebangsaan.' ('All final decisions will be made by the top leaderships of PH and BN at the national level.') 'May I ask DAP, both national and Sabah, whether this is what they call 'autonomy'? Sabah DAP can't even decide its own seat allocations, and everything is determined in Kuala Lumpur — yet Sabah DAP can shamelessly tell the people they have autonomy?' Yong further criticised Sabah DAP's for their repeated inconsistencies — such as firmly denying any cooperation with Umno before the 2022 general election, only to later sit in the same government after the polls. Now, Sabah DAP has gone a step further by becoming a mere puppet and executor of decisions made by the central leadership of PH and BN, thus betraying their original promises to the people of Sabah. 'The people of Sabah are not forgetful. One single statement from the central government has exposed all Sabah DAP's falsehoods. Can Sabah DAP still face the voters with a straight face and claim that they represent Sabah?' Yong stressed that what Sabah truly needs is a party that is firm in its stance and refuses to compromise with the central authorities, not agents who chant slogans while accepting decisions handed down from KL. 'Sabah is not a vassal of Malayan parties, and the power to decide Sabah's fate should not lie in distant KL. The people of Sabah deserve autonomy and the right to self-determination — not external control! 'Therefore, SAPP calls on all Sabahans to unite and support a truly Sabah local based government that will fight for their rights and aspirations. In the coming state election, Sabahans will have the chance to choose a voice that truly belongs to Sabah — not political actors who merely change their 'packaging' but remain obedient to outsiders.' 'Now is the time for us Sabahans to unite and build the Sabah we rightfully deserve.'
