He can be seen flying in air after bull hits him with its horn. The video shows locals escorting Márquez away, but he later succumbed to the injuries, as per the local media. Colombian animal rights group Plataforma ALTO shared the video on X and called it an act of 'self-defense'. 'The man passed away yesterday after being gored by an injured bull, in an act of self-defense, during the 'festivities' of the municipality," the post reads. One of the eyewitnesses told El Tiempo, 'He stood up as if he was fine, but the blood was flowing. It was only a few seconds before he fell to the ground." However, they quickly dropped him to the ground as they had to run for their lives themselves from the agitated bull. The victim was eventually picked up as soon as people were able to get to him safely.

Márquez then took off running and tried to execute a somersault when the bull took a step forward and struck him with one of his horns. Spectators screamed in horror as the bull went after Márquez as he laid on the ground, driving a horn into him and flipping him over. A stunned Márquez stood up on his own and ran away as bystanders tried to assist him. Márquez was rushed to an area hospital, but he arrived without vital signs and was pronounced dead on arrival.
