Zenvo's Next Hypercar Might Have an Even Better Engine: 'We're Already Working on a V-10'

Zenvo's quad-turbocharged, V-12-powered Aurora hypercar hits the road soon. We caught a glimpse of the near-production body last year in Monterey, and this year at Goodwood, the company ran final prototypes of its upcoming hypercar up the iconic hillclimb. But that's not all Zenvo has planned. Last year, the Danish supercar maker confirmed to Motor1 that it was working on a smaller 'junior hypercar' that would sit just beneath the Aurora. This year, Zenvo reiterated those plans, telling Top Gear that its 'junior hypercar' is still in the works—and that it will have a very unique engine: A V-10. "We're already working on a V-10 version for our junior hypercar," Chairman Jens Sverdrup told Top Gear . The V-12 underhood of the Aurora is a "modular engine," Sverdrup says, which means it can function in eight-, 10-, and even six-cylinder configurations. Better yet, Sverdrup confirmed that the engine "doesn't have to be a hybrid" like the larger Aurora. He says: 'The engine was designed from day one with future-proofing in mind, so it can be naturally aspirated, it can of course run as a non-hybrid too if need be. Emissions are the real issue, though. I think it will be tough to meet the next set of requirements without running a hybrid system.' When Zenvo spoke to Motor1 last year in Monterey, the company said that the same monocoque chassis from the Aurora would also be used in this smaller hypercar. "We can use the monocoque for other projects," noted Head of Zenvo Design Christian Brandt. But before Zenvo even thinks about getting its baby hypercar on the road, the company is focused on bringing the halo Aurora to life. The 1,850-horsepower hypercar officially goes into production next year, with 50 examples of the road-focused Tur trim planned, alongside 50 examples of the track-capable Agil model. The Zenvo Aurora is estimated to start at around $2.8 million. More From Zenvo Zenvo's Quad-Turbo Supercar Is Nearly Here. Zenvo Is Making a Small Hypercar With a Naturally Aspirated V-10 Engine

Zenvo's 1,850 brake horsepower, V-12 powered Aurora was one of the more pleasant surprises of 2023, a new hypercar with real aspirations. Now, the car maker says it's working on a smaller version, too, a 'junior hypercar' powered by a V-10 that might be a bit more accessible. Zenvo doesn't have a prototype of this car that it can reveal, or even a name just yet, but the V-12 that the company is putting in the Aurora is versatile enough to slim down to a V-10 and possibly even a V-8. That has made Zenvo think of worlds beyond the hybrid Aurora, which is a would-be competitor to cars like the Koenigsegg Jesko. More from Robb Report Inside a Stately $9.5 Million Mansion on Washington D.C.'s Embassy Row A Record-Breaking Penthouse Sale in Asbury Park Signals a Bold New Chapter for the Jersey Shore This Year's Champagne Harvest Is 'Promising,' but the Yield Will Be the Lowest Since Covid 'We're already working on a V-10 version for our junior hypercar,' Jens Sverdrup, Zenvo's chairman, told Top Gear, adding that the V-10 would likely be naturally aspirated, as opposed to the quad-turbo V-12 in the Aurora. 'The engine was designed from day one with future-proofing in mind, so it can be naturally aspirated, it can of course run as a non-hybrid too if need be. Emissions are the real issue though. I think it will be tough to meet the next set of requirements without running a hybrid system.' A naturally aspirated V-10 version of the Aurora engine might make something in the realm of 800 horsepower, which would make this junior hypercar exist probably in the same general space as a car like the Lamborghini Huracán. A V-10 Zenvo is also, for now, merely a thing the company is working on, which means that it's a long way from execution. Zenvo still has to make sure the Aurora is a success at first, too. In that regard, Zenvo seems on track, with the Aurora making its operational debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this month and charging up the hill. The company is almost explicitly pitting itself directly against Koenigsegg, the Swedish hypercar maker, which is a formidable task but reminiscent of the days when regular old supercar makers like Lamborghini and Ferrari would go head-to-head. Zenvo, for example, says it is solely a hypercar company and won't be bothering with lesser vehicles like an SUV. 'There's no ambition to start doing family cars,' Sverdrup told Top Gear. 'Something like a Koenigsegg Gemera wouldn't be on our radar. But yes, we're planning a junior hypercar and hopefully we could make up to 500 of those, depending on what the brand and the market would take … I would love to make hypercars in new genres, too, so not an SUV but a hyper off-roader.' That's big talk for a relative newbie on the scene, but that's what you have to say to get noticed. Delivery remains to be seen. Zenvo is working on a ‘junior hypercar' with a screaming, naturally-aspirated V10

Supercars Boss Jens Sverdrup tells TG how Zenvo will earn its place 'in the top echelons of the hypercar world' Skip 1 photos in the image carousel and continue reading A couple of weeks ago, Zenvo continued the development of its new quad-turbo V12-engined hypercar – the Aurora – with plenty of prototype runs up the hill at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It was the first time the car had moved under its own steam in public, but chairman Jens Sverdrup clearly isn't resting on his laurels. 'It is a modular engine,' Sverdrup told TG about the new powerplant in the Aurora, which was developed in conjunction with Mahle Powertrain. 'We're already working on a V10 version for our junior hypercar.' Advertisement - Page continues below Wait, what? This is very exciting news. The V12 in the Aurora will make 1,250bhp on its own, but Zenvo will pair that with a hybrid system for a bonkers total of 1,850bhp. Good grief. So, what would a junior version look like? 'If we can, we would like to make it a screaming, naturally aspirated engine,' said Svedrup. You might like 'It doesn't have to be a hybrid. The engine was designed from day one with future-proofing in mind, so it can be naturally aspirated, it can of course run as a non-hybrid too if need be. Emissions are the real issue though. I think it will be tough to meet the next set of requirements without running a hybrid system. 'There will probably also be V8 versions, but that would be as low as we go in terms of cylinder count, because it's still a very extreme engine and very expensive obviously, so it is very much made for the hypercar world.' Something like a Koenigsegg Gemera wouldn't be on our radar. But yes, we're planning a junior hypercar and hopefully we could make up to 500 of those, depending on what the brand and the market would take. Zenvo Aurora Reveals An Even Prettier Look For Its Goodwood Reveal

Zenvo's Monster Twins Are Getting Tweaked At Monterey Car Week 2023, Danish automaker Zenvo revealed the new Aurora hypercar, and ahead of its debut at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the company has revealed some subtle changes to its design. Like the Keonigsegg Jesko twins, half of the Aurora's production run of 100 cars will be reserved for a track-focused, RWD Agil model, while the other half is for the AWD (and more powerful) Tur variant, which is meant to be a more comfortable cruiser. Zenvo has yet to show the changes as they translate to the former, which we'll likely see this weekend at Goodwood, so for now, let's see how the Tur has changed. You may need to squint. Subtle Changes Are Tough To Spot Zenvo didn't detail the changes, but closer inspection reveals a slightly altered front fascia where mesh now covers the grille openings, the hood has been reshaped, and the ends of the headlamps are now underpinned by more body-color material. At the rear, the diffuser is now larger and more curved, and the license plate holder has moved further down. It also looks like the rear deck has been extended slightly, which should further improve aerodynamic efficiency. McLaren's LT models and Koenigsegg's new Sadair's Spear have used this subtle change to great effect, but Zenvo has not updated any of the performance claims it initially made. Not that it needs to – the Aurora boasts some impressive numbers. Two Experiences To Choose From, Neither Of Which Is Cheap Whether you choose an Agil or a Tur, you get a quad-turbocharged 6.6-liter V12 that revs to a frankly absurd 9,800 rpm and delivers 1,250 horsepower all on its own. This MAHLE-developed engine (called Mjølner) is the most powerful production V12 on the planet. Choose the Agil, and Zenvo fits an electric motor to the rear axle, adding another 200 ponies to the horsepower claim, but if you go for the touring variant, Zenvo puts a pair of electric motors on the front axle instead, giving the Tur AWD and a whopping 1,850 hp. Each take on the Aurora will provide its own experience, even if you take the aero out of the equation. The Agil claims 0-62 mph in 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 227 mph, while the slipperier Tur gets to 62 mph in 2.3 seconds and keeps going until 280 mph. On the track, the Agil should wipe the floor with the faster car, thanks to 1,940 lbs of downforce at 155 mph and 331 lbs less weight (2,866 in the Agil versus 3,197 in the Tur). Zenvo expects to begin deliveries of its $2.8 million Aurora in 2026, after which it intends to launch a smaller hypercar that will be a relative bargain at $2 million.
