Bride is 'livid' over 'ugly' detail in her $400 wedding cake: 'The baker did you dirty'

A bride has told of how she was so 'livid' at her wedding after the $400 cake she ordered looked nothing like she had imagined. The woman had paid a professional baker to create her 'dream' three-tier cake in a muted, soft shade of dusty blue. She asked for a faux wedding cake made of Styrofoam that was covered in real fondant, with a real single serve of sponge - ready for the bride and groom to cut into for photographs. But on their wedding day, the couple realised the baker had made the 'wrong colour' cake - despite giving the professional two 'inspo pics' of what they wanted. Adding to the shock, the baker forgot to mark where to cut into the towering tiered cake, and instead gave the bride and groom the only instructions, 'Poke it with a fork to find it'. 'My sister thought she found it because it was softer in one area, but during our cake cutting, we cut into Styrofoam. It was so awkward,' she said. 'We eventually found (the real cake) and it was only the top half of the bottom tier.' The cake not only looked 'ugly', but the bride said it was 'sticking out like a sore thumb' and 'clashed horribly' with her lighter-toned décor at the reception. 'I'm livid,' the bride said in a Reddit thread. The bride said her sister 'tried to salvage' what she could from the original cake by using the flower 'scraps' from around the reception. 'The colour was so off... It's so ugly I had my sister save the cake last minute... My sister was trying to see how much cake she could cover up since we didn't have that much white icing,' she explained. 'We added the flowers that were leftover décor from my venue. 'She did an amazing job.' While she admitted the updated cake was giving 'grandma' vibes, she said it 'at least matched' the colours of her wedding reception. Hours before her sister came to the rescue, the bride asked the baker to fix the cake. 'The baker refused to change anything since they didn't have a designer that day to fix it... My wedding was in five hours and I didn't have time to find another cake,' she said. To make matters worse, the bakery is now refusing to give her a full refund. 'The lady on the phone was so rude and condescending,' the bride said. 'She told us to take pictures of the cake next to our wedding décor so she could make sure "it actually didn't match". 'We added the flowers from my flower arch later to help prove it didn't match my décor.' Styrofoam cakes are popular at weddings for many reasons, including providing the tiered look of a traditional wedding cake without the expense. Guests are usually served sheet cakes, which are sliced discreetly in the kitchen and brought out as soon as the couple has made their first cut into the dummy version. The bride's post has been met with more than 2,000 comments, with many shocked over the cake she received on her wedding day. 'Your sister did a phenomenal job lightening up the cake. Sorry the bakery is being so awful,' one said. 'Omg! I would burn them on socials so hard. That is horrendous! Your sister did save the day, but still looks nothing like your inspo photos. Wow,' another shared. 'The biggest problem with the job her sister did is that the blue isn't dark enough. She did a great job in recreating the spirit of the inspo pics. The bakery did a horrible job. It looks like some kind of LSD aquarium infused nightmare,' one suggested. 'Bakery did you dirty, no doubt about it. Glad you are happy with your sister's cake rescue,' another added.

Bride shares picture of 'monstrosity' wedding cake as people say 'nothing prepared me for this'

A bride who entrusted her mother with the task of providing a wedding cake for her big day has left people online in shock after revealing the 'monstrosity'. The anonymous bride posted a picture of the cake she expected to receive followed by an image of the one she was presented with on global discussion forum Reddit. She explained: 'My mother volunteered to pay for our wedding cake. 'I tried to find something simple so it wouldn't cost much…. She swears to this day she didn't make it but I am not convinced'. While the photos were added to the 'baking' subreddit, which is often filled with 'cake fails', users admitted that nothing could have prepared them for this particular example. Titled 'Wedding cake expectation vs reality', the post first showed a picture of what the bride had hoped for, namely, a two-tier cake covered in white icing and topped with floral decorations in autumnal colours to match their October nuptials. The second picture, however, showed the cake she received, which bore very little resemblance to the original. The cake that the bride's mother gave her looked positively homemade - not only was it messy with frosting dripping down the sides, it also looked squashed. Reddit users were genuinely shocked by the disparity between the two cakes And, unlike the cake the bride had requested, the icing coverage was uneven, leaving some sponge exposed. Reddit users appeared to be genuinely astonished by the vast disparity between the two cakes, with one person admitting: 'Nothing prepared me for this.' Another person agreed: 'I must have seen hundreds of cake fails over the years. I still was not prepared.' While a third exclaimed: 'Consider my flabbers gasted.' A fourth person could not accept that the cake wasn't homemade. Their brutal verdict read: 'I just made something that looked like this a few weeks ago with two boxes of [cake] mix and a can of icing. 'I can't believe she proceeded with the drizzle when the layers looked like that. What a monstrosity.' Another Reddit user said: 'I just spat my drink out'. And a sixth person joked: 'That's one Temu version of a cake right there' Temu is a budget-friendly online marketplace, which frequently offers huge discounts and promotions. A seventh didn't mince their words when they insisted: 'That has got to be the best one on here. That's atrocious.' In a separate post, the bride added that the wedding party 'did not eat' the cake - but that it did come from a bakery, according to both her mother and her sister. The bride wrote: 'I asked my sister about this today since so many people were interested. 'She doubled down and said she was with my mother when she picked it up from Haggen.' Yet, despite her disappointment at her mother's cake, the bride's day was far from ruined by it. She said: 'My sister saw what my brought and ran tot he store and got donuts for guests and cheesecake for us to cut. 'She made a cute display with some pumpkins since we had an October wedding. 'I am thankful for her quick thinking.' The bride, who has been married for five years, also revealed that half-a-decade on, she too finds it 'funny'. She wrote: 'Thank you everyone for your great comments, I've read almost every one and they made MY day'.

I asked for a ‘pillar cake' for my kid but they have ruined her birthday… people say it ‘looks like dirty loo roll'

A MUM was left devastated after ordering a pink glittery pillar cake for her teenager's 17th birthday - and what arrived looked like ''a dirty loo roll''. Mum and TikToker @ just_ur_averagehuman had hoped for a personalised pink sparkly cake for her kid's big day. According to the mother, her daughter hadn't ''ask for anything'' apart from this specific cake, as she's currently fixated on pillars. The sweet treat she had requested was an epic Greek pillar, with intricate detailing throughout and topped with edible glitter in pink. However, the mum was left lost for words by the ''dream cake'' that she went to collect later. In a clip on TikTok, the furious mum shared the photo of the cake she had ordered from the bakery - and the one she ended up receiving. Instead of a jaw-dropping cake, the birthday treat looking nothing like the expectations - and was a far cry from the epic pillar she had ordered. The cake was significantly smaller and mainly white, only having speckles of mysterious colour throughout - which also didn't look like edible glitter. The gold-coloured bits matched the golden number 17 attached to the mini pillar in the middle. After showing the disastrous baked treat from all sides, the horrified mum said: ''My God... ''The only thing I can do is cry.'' She went on in the caption: ''They have ruined my child's birthday.'' You can make school cake in the air fryer with just 6 ingredients - it's ready in minutes & perfect for an after-school snack After complaining, the bakery allegedly agreed to fix the cake and issue a refund, the mum shared in a follow-up video. However, whilst the updated cake had pink elements, it was wonky, with some parts falling off. The mother slammed the bakery, writing: ''It was not edible and nope, they have not refunded me. My child is devastated.'' How much does a birthday cake cost? The cost of a birthday cake can vary massively depending on where you get it from and how elaborate it is. Basic sponge or character birthday cakes from supermarkets tend to cost between £10 and £20, while large or themed supermarket cakes often vary between £20 and £35. Meanwhile, a small, personalised custom cake from a bakery and/or professional cake decorator can set people back £40 to £60. Medium personalised cakes are often £70 to £100, while large, tiered cakes, can be anywhere from £100 to £300, depending on detail, flavours and toppers. 'No way. Do not accept that' It's not just the mum who was lost for words after receiving the absolute flop of a cake, as over 700 people of the 813k viewers flooded to comments. One said: ''Why do businesses agree to something they just can't deliver - there's more respect if they tell the truth!'' Someone else chimed in: ''I would refuse to pay for that!!''

Woman forked out for a posh Insta-worthy cake for 21st but what turned up was so bad – it looked more like vomit

A WOMAN was left devastated after ordering a luxury Instagram-worthy cake for her 21st birthday - and what arrived looked like 'vomit.' Alexandra Tobie, from Cape Town, had hoped for a personalised pink sparkly cake for her special milestone event. 5 5 5 The cake she had requested was heart-shaped, with piped icing and topped with edible glitter. It also had personalised black and white photos around the edge. However, the birthday girl was left lost for words by the 'ugly' cake that arrived. In a clip on TikTok, Alexandra shared the photo of the cake she had ordered from the bakery, which had the words 'That Girl Since '03'' piped on top. In the expectation vs reality video, she then showed what had arrived. Her cake was floppy and rather amateur looking, and was circular instead of heart-shaped. While it did also bear the writing 'That Girl Since '03'', the text was rather messy and done in garish bright blue and yellow colouring. There were also no photos around the outside of the cake. After the photos were shared online, many people were quick to give their views and brand it 'ugly.' One wrote: 'Seems like the yellow gel ran out and BLUE was the second option, not even black.' See the moment mum-to-be's gender reveal cake arrives looking like a 'toddler did it' & the second attempt is even worse Another said: 'I know my entire year would be ruined with a cake like that!' While some said they would not have paid, another added: 'Ewww it looks like vomit.' WEDDING CAKE DISASTER We previously shared how a bride-to-be was left devastated after she ordered a peacock-themed wedding cake that arrived looking like a "lopsided turkey with leprosy". Rena Davis, from Georgia in the US, had ordered her perfect wedding cake after showing the baker an image of a similar one she had found online. The unusual design was supposed to feature two birds, a heart-shaped cake, and chocolate cupcakes. But what arrived was in stark contrast, with the peacock's head falling off the "lopsided" cake. 5 5 Rena was utterly heartbroken, after forking out $300 (almost £250) for the cake a month before the big day. And despite being reassured everything was "going to plan" in the weeks leading up to the wedding, the cake arrived the night before and was nothing like what the 52-year-old imagined. Just as the baker drove away, the peacock's head reportedly fell off and Rena realised the fondant icing was actually buttercream. Despite chasing for a refund, Rena claims she was initially refused, but after sharing her ordeal on social media, she received an envelope in her letterbox including $300 (£242). "I felt heartbroken. I saw [the cake] and walked out of the room," she explained. Can you get a full refund if an item arrives and looks nothing like the photos? AROUND one in six people who bought an item online were unhappy with it not matching the product's photos or description, according to a Which? survey. Of these, four in 10 who were upset blamed misleading product pictures as the issue. But can you get a refund if what arrives looks nothing like the snaps? Which? explained that under consumer law, "you're entitled to a full refund if an item you've ordered online doesn't match its description." However, the site found that a quarter of those who had arrived at a settlement with a company didn't receive all their money back. They added: "You have a right to reject items that aren't as described under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. "Providing picture evidence alongside screenshots of the advertised product description or image should help when complaining." "It was a lopsided mess - nothing like I thought it would be like. "[Before], we'd heard nothing from her since. She had not called or anything. "The only reason she gave a refund now was because of the viral post. "She said she couldn't give me my money back at first because she had 50 hours in it and she had to pay her mum for helping." We previously shared a series of hideous wedding cake fails that look nothing like the design.

I shelled out for a premium pink cake for my 21st birthday but what arrived looked like vomit

A woman was left with a bitter taste in her mouth after ordering a luxurious pink cake for her birthday and instead receiving an 'ugly' dessert that looked nothing like what she had paid for. Alexandra Tobie, from Cape Town, shelled out for a personalised pink sparkly cake to mark her special 21st birthday. But when she revealed the very different-looking gateau she had received, people were left reeling and said it looked like 'vomit'. The pudding she asked for was heart-shaped with hot pink piped icing, topped with premium edible glitter. The cake was bordered with black and white photos - tailored and personalised to the person being celebrated. However, Alexandra revealed on TikTok that the cake she received was unrecognisable compared to the promotional photos from the bakery - leaving her lost for words. In a clip posted to the social media platform, Alexandra shared a promotional video of the cake she ordered, which featured the words 'That Girl Since '03' neatly piped onto the top. Then the video promptly switched to what Alexandra actually received - a far cry from what she had ordered. Instead of a chic dessert, Alexandra received a sloppy, amateur-looking cake. While it did contain piping around its edges, it wasn't a neat job and the shape of the cake was circular rather than heart-shaped. The text on the top of the cake did indeed read: 'That Girl Since '03' - but it wasn't quite the neat writing Alexandra had expected. Instead, the text was written in messy capital letters, with bright yellow and bright blue colouring. Another feature missing from the cake Alexandra eventually received was the border of black and white photos around the outside. As a disappointed Alexandra shared a photo of her underwhelming birthday cake on TikTok, hundreds of people took the opportunity to express their bewilderment at what she had received - branding it 'ugly'. One wrote: 'Seems like the yellow gel ran out and BLUE was the second option, not even black.' Another said: 'I know my entire year would be ruined with a cake like that!' She posted the questionable dessert on her TikTok page and captioned it: 'It's so ugly omg.' It racked up more than 80,000 views and hundreds of comments A third penned: 'Ewww it looks like vomit,' while another commented: 'I wouldn't have paid.' In 2022, a woman was 'devastated' after receiving a cake that looked like 'kids volcano school project' instead of the £110 dream cake she ordered for her 18th birthday party. British woman, Ellie, had ordered the cake from a professional baker but suspected something was wrong when she had to send her the design three times because the baker 'couldn't remember' what she wanted. The final product was was 'so bad' she couldn't even eat it, it looked nothing like her order and was covered in 'candle wax' icing and dead flowers. The young woman shared her nightmare cake to a Facebook group alongside photos of the creation. 'This was a professional baker and I had to send in the inspiration picture three times as they couldn't remember what I had wanted,' she said. She explained she had 'no words' when she got the cake, but has since gotten a full refund. It comes after a savvy mum shared her hack for creating a bakery-quality cake for just £10. UK content creator Lyre took to her TikTok account, @theleggofamily, to showcase how she created the stunning delicacy using just Victoria Sponge Cakes from the supermarket. The mother-of-one who often shares creative money saving hacks on her platform, revealed the cake can be used for any celebration and it's simple to do. For the thrifty creation, which is decorated with gold cake toppers, Lyre explained that she bought three boxes of Taste the Difference Victoria Sponge Cakes for £2 each from the supermarket using Nectar prices. She also bought vanilla cream icing, which cost £3, and gold cake toppers from Temu. The influencer also revealed she previously purchased a cake decorating kit from TikTik shop which helped her with the process, but this wasn't essential. She described her hack as: 'Budget-friendly and perfect for birthdays or any special occasion.' In the clip, which racked up more than 280,000 views, Lyre began by getting a cake stand and removing the cakes from their packaging. She sliced the curved top off each of the cakes so they could neatly be stacked on top of each other. The savvy mother then put a layer of Vanilla Buttercream-style icing in between each cake to keep them in place and to add extra filling. She then spread the icing around all of them, creating one large three-tierd structure. Next, she used an icing scraper to smooth out the icing and a piping tool to decorate the edges. Many were really impressed with the professional looking creation and rushed to the comments. One person wrote: 'Does it stay upright without any support? l can't bake at all so might give this a go!' To which Lyre replied: 'Yes!! Make sure you put it on the fridge after 1st coat of icing for one hour then do 2nd coat of icing then fridge it.' Another asked: 'So how much were the decorations ? And how long did it take you from start to finish including washing up cleaning after you ,also actually going to buy it all too, people don't think about all that.' 'To make it didn't take me long as well prolly 15-20 mins max!' Lyre said. 'But I put it in the fridge for one hour after first icing then did another icing again.' Another added: 'Only seeing this now after we paid our deposit for our wedding cake in August.' A fourth penned: 'Perfect for when you don't have time to bake, also saves time on the washing up.' One also expressed: 'I think this is great if you can't cook but wanna still do a cake you have the knowledge in crumb coating get the betty Crocker cake mix so easy.'
