Roy Keane calls out three Man Utd stars after Chelsea defeat -'Not good enough'

Manchester United suffered their 18th defeat of a miserable Premier League campaign, after losing 1-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, with Roy Keane ripping into Ruben Amorim's players Roy Keane has said he wouldn't bank on Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund and Kobbie Mainoo being the ones to help transform Manchester United's fortunes. The Red Devils suffered their 18th defeat of a desperate Premier League season on Friday night, with Marc Cucurella securing a 1-0 win for Chelsea. Another loss leaves United in 16th place in the table and set for their worst finish since they were relegated from the top flight in 1974. They can still salvage their campaign and secure Champions League football next term - but only if they beat Tottenham in the Europa League final next week. ‌ But ex-Old Trafford skipper Keane was less than impressed with what he saw at Stamford Bridge, reserving extra criticism for three of Amorim's squad. Delivering his verdict on Sky Sports post-match, Keane didn't mince his words about United's performance. ‌ The former United captain was quizzed on whether he'd 'fight' to retain the services of Mainoo, Hojlund, and Garnacho should offers come in during the summer. Keane responded: "I wouldn't be hanging my hat on those three to get Man United [back]. "Mainoo comes on tonight, I watched him closely – he's strolling around, some of his passes were sloppy. Garnacho is immature. He plays in little moments, but he doesn't do enough. "We spoke before the programme - you want players for the big clubs that turn up week in, week out. He doesn't do that. He's got a bit of talent; he makes some good runs and threatens in behind.", reports the Manchester Evening News. "On his good day, you think, 'I like what I see.' But he's got too many bad days. And Hojlund, in his defence, I think he should have been a backup striker, third or fourth choice, and learnt his trade off of two or three brilliant strikers. "The fact that when he came to the club he was going to be the main man, he's not good enough! He's obviously lacking in confidence and belief and he's not surrounded by brilliance either. ‌ "The problems we've spoken about at Manchester United all season are still there. Now if people think they can fix that in one summer then it's not going to happen." Jamie Redknapp concurred: "[Leny] Yoro's obviously not going to be sold he's only just come to the club. I find it hard to disagree with Roy. Pretty much every single player, there's a price on all of them. "That just tells you where they are. You look at that and you'd probably be nervous for that squad going into Champions League football. It's not all of a sudden going to become better overnight. "It's not going to become better because they've got a little bit of experience. So, I think pretty much every single player, Jason Wilcox and the new CEO [Omar Berrarda], will look at it and go, 'If the offer's right and then we can bring in somebody younger and better, we'll have to do it'."

Roy Keane says Scott McTominay was 'tarnished' by £47m Man Utd signing

Roy Keane believes Scott McTominay's Manchester United career was hindered by his association with fellow midfielder Fred. McTominay made over 250 appearances for his boyhood club before moving to Italian side Napoli last summer for £25m. The Scotland international was a key member of the Old Trafford squad for half a decade, playing at least 35 games every season between 2019-20 and 2023-24. McTominay was sold partly for PSR reasons and the transfer decision has looked increasingly questionable this season as the 28-year-old has starred for Napoli. Scoring 12 goals in 34 appearances, McTominay has quickly become a fan favourite in Naples, helping Antonio Conte's side climb to the top of Serie A with two games remaining. McTominay's form for title favourites Napoli has led to claims that Manchester United made a mistake selling him but Keane doubts that is the case. The ex-Old Trafford captain does, however, acknowledge that McTominay was viewed unfairly during his time at United due to his association with Fred. The 'McFred' midfield partnership was widely criticised, with Keane particularly critical of Brazil international Fred during his five-year spell at the Theatre of Dreams. 'What didn't help Scott was it was him and Fred together,' Keane said on Stick to Football. 'It just wasn't a good combo. 'I know Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] praises both of them – which is beyond me – I always thought there was something in Scott. 'He had more than Fred going on, but as a partnership it didn't work, it wasn't happening, United weren't competing in midfield. 'It tarnished him a little bit, 'McFred' wasn't it. He's added to his game, to be fair to him. He's always had a goal in him but he's got that up to another level. 'If he wasn't scoring the goals at Napoli we wouldn't be talking about him. But you can't keep talking about players who leave a big club and say we should have kept them. 'You can't keep everyone. I think McTominay could have been in the group, 100%. But playing every week? I'm talking about the players you need to get Man United back to the top. 'They haven't brought in better which is the problem for the club. United's recruitment has been that poor that you still talk about former players.' To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video While McTominay is thriving at Napoli, Fred has also impressed since leaving Manchester United for Fenerbahce in 2023. Ex-United boss Solskjaer has repeatedly questioned the club's decision to sell McTominay, recently saying the decision is 'beyond him' 'Scott and Fred together, they were lads you would put your hat on every day to give 100 per cent,' Solskjaer said. 'How you can sell Scott is beyond me.' Old Trafford legend Jaap Stam added: 'Scott McTominay has been a very important influence at Manchester United even though he wasn't a guaranteed starter. More Trending 'He scored goals and had a big impact and those are the players you don't want to lose as a football club. 'Leaving might've been a good step for him, as is currently being discussed with Marcus Rashford, but he may well have wanted to stay. 'He has been a very important player for Napoli and his confidence is growing because he is starting most games and overall I think selling him was a bad call at United. 'Sometimes you have to make tough decisions as a club and I understand that, but I wouldn't have been keen to sell McTominay.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Liverpool fans gleefully remind Gary Neville of humiliating Sky Sports moment

Liverpool fans reminded Manchester United icon Gary Neville of what one supporter described as "the worst piece of punditry" in football history - after he announced he was "not nervous" before his old club lost 7-0 at Anfield. Reds fans celebrated the second anniversary of one of the greatest nights ever witnessed by the Kop faithful on March 5. In a result that reverberated around the globe, Jurgen Klopp's men put seven past a stunned Reds Devils side, with Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez leading the charge with a brace each. In a poetic end to proceedings, club legend Roberto Firmino - who was destined to depart Merseyside in the summer that followed - put the seal on the victory with a seventh in the closing stages. The result made even more sweet for many Kopites, not least due to the confident proclamations from ex-Old Trafford stalwart Neville in the lead-up to kick-off in L4. He said on Sky Sports: "I'm not nervous. I've never been more relaxed coming here in the last nine years as a Manchester United fan. Honestly, do you know, this bunch are tough." Looking back over this faux pas from Neville, one fan quoted the post and could not resist engaging in some light humor at the Red Devils legend's expense, saying: "Happy anniversary to all who celebrate," as a second said: "'This bunch are tough' might be the worst piece of punditry in the history of the sport." A third then chipped in to offer some feedback to the outspoken Sky Sports pundit, saying: "Classic G-Nev before his team got absolutely destroyed, then he turned around and said Liverpool didn't even play that well," before a fourth added: "Look at how smug he is hahahaha won't see anything like that again for a long time." The overall message behind the final comment above appeared to be a view shared by then-Liverpool boss Klopp too, who described the result as a "once in a lifetime" occurrence. Reacting after what was a historic game, he admitted: "The 7-0 we knew that day, it was a freak result that happens once in a lifetime. "If it helps anyone for the next game it is the team who lost 7-0 and not the team who won 7-0. If you take it all out of consideration and just play a football game against the historical rival of Liverpool at home at Anfield that itself must make it a special game and that's what I want to see from us, a special game.' Fast forward a couple of years and it is clear that Neville is determined not to make a similar mistake as he predicted that old foes Liverpool will clinch the Premier League title this term. Speaking on Sky Sports, the ex-England mainstay said: 'I can't see complacency [being an issue]. "They've got so much experience and look in control. They've adapted pretty well all season. Injuries are the only thing. The only thing you would say is that the team that is behind you is there waiting for you… but the team that are behind them are NOT their waiting for them. They are fumbling around."
