Lizzo Shares How Wood Therapy & Lymphatic Massage Helped Body Goals

Originally appeared on E! Online Sometimes Lizzo gets to lie down and relax. The "About Damn Time" singer has been sharing the secrets of, as she put it, the "intentional weight release journey" she's been on for almost two years. And on July 3, as she revealed jaw-dropping side-by-side photos from her first lymphatic massage vs. how she looked after having her latest one, she explained how self-care has played a role in her body transformation. Along with working out and making nutritious food choices, of course. "In light of all these magazines and blogs wanting me to be on ozempic soooo bad— here's the truth!" Lizzo captioned her pics, including one in which she's cloaked in plastic wrap inside an infrared sauna. "I work my ass off, training 3x a week, daily sauna & cardio, adding animal protein back into my diet, hiring a chef who helps me meal prep and keeps track of what I put into my body in a calorie deficit, cutting out sugary Starbucks & full fat sodas & potato chips." Also key: Letting someone else put in the effort once in a while. More from E! What to Know After Verdict The 37-year-old explained that she has turned to wood therapy (a massage technique using wooden tools to apply pressure and manipulate the body), as well as lymphatic massages (which target specific areas to move excess fluid away from tissues and toward lymph vessels and nodes to flush out toxins), in order to help get her body snatched. Cutting down on alcohol also proved key to Lizzo's progress. While she quit drinking for the 'longest' time, she clarified that she's partaking once again because she 'earned it.' However, she still does a full 'detox' once a month and keeps an active lifestyle with some of her favorite hobbies, adding, "I play pickleball and hike and walk on the beach and move my body and dance.' Cutting down on alcohol also proved key to Lizzo's progress. "I quit drinking for the longest… (but I'm drinking again cus I earned it!)," her July 3 post continued. "I play pickleball and hike and walk on the beach and move my body and dance and drink water. I detox! Once a month!" Also key: Letting someone else put in the effort once in awhile. "I also get holistic body work done, wood therapy [a massage technique using wooden tools to apply pressure and manipulate the body] and lymphatic massage," the 37-year-old noted. "I'm so happy and proud of what I've done and no one can take that away from me." As Lizzo said on an April episode of Jay Shetty's On Purpose podcast, "I've gained a sense of self. I've gained a lifestyle that I actually really love and I'm like, 'I can maintain this.'" See Lizzo's body transformation journey in photos: And as for those rumors about weight loss drugs being her secret to her transformation? Lizzo recently shared that she tried Ozempic and other GLP-1 medications—a class of drugs primarily used to manage type 2 diabetes and/or obesity—to aid her weight loss, but ultimately decided not to go down that road. "Ozempic works because you eat less food, yeah? So if you eat right, it makes you feel full," the Yitty swim and shapewear cofounder mused to Trisha Paytas on a June episode of the podcast. "But if you can just do that on your own and get mind over matter, it's the same thing." As Lizzo said on an April episode of Jay Shetty's On Purpose podcast, "I've gained a sense of self. I've gained a lifestyle that I actually really love and I'm like, 'I can maintain this.'" Lizzo Fires Back at Ozempic Critics: ‘This S**t Is Hard'

Lizzo is once again hitting back at busybodies and skeptics who won't stop speculating on her weight loss. In an interview with Women's Health, the 37-year-old singer aimed to make her mindset, motivation, and methods crystal clear. She directed some comments at those who, despite her previous statements, insist that Lizzo's changing figure is attributed to GLP-1 drugs. Lizzo shared with writer Jessica Herndon that she's recently received questions from fans, like, 'Are you taking Ozempic?' and 'What happened when you said it's okay to be fat?' This is not to say that the artist seeks to shade those who turn to GLP-1 drugs in their healthcare journeys. She said, 'If I did all of this on Ozempic....I would be just as proud of myself, because this s**t is hard.' For the 'About Damn Time' singer, this wasn't a weight loss journey, but a weight release journey. Because, as Lizzo sees it, she didn't actually lose anything. 'It's okay to release weight...[and] it's okay to gain weight after you've released weight,' she says. In January, Lizzo posted photos to her Instagram wearing workout gear paired with an ecstatic caption. 'I reached my weight release goal,' she wrote, adding a motivational message for fans about achieving their own goals. 'I wanted to be 'big-girl skinny,'' she tells Women's Health. 'Every big girl knows what I'm talking about. Big-girl skinny is 250 pounds.' This meant a balance of feeling like herself while reducing back pain and health concerns she struggled with. The change, she explains, came from consistent exercise and a nutritious diet with lean proteins and vegetables. Each week, she performs a mix of strength training and cardio for three days, and dedicates two days to 45-minute cardio workouts. It wasn't about chasing thinness—only feeling better in her body, on her terms.

Lizzo reveals meal plan that helped her achieve weight loss goal

After announcing she has achieved her "weight release goal," Lizzo is now dropping the routine that helped her get there. Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, 37, in a cover story for Women's Health's latest issue, opened up about her physical health journey and revealed the routine she followed to "release" 16% of her body fat. For breakfast, her go-to option is two scrambled eggs, chicken sausage and a cauliflower hash brown. For lunch, the Grammy-winning artist switches between shredded Thai chicken salad, lettuce wraps stuffed with tuna and sliced chicken breast. As for dinner, which she eats at 5 p.m., Lizzo prefers to stick with the same one: a turkey meatloaf with cauliflower mashed potatoes and green beans. "I have GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), so my body needs time to digest food before I go to sleep, so acid doesn't roll up to my throat," Lizzo explained about her early dinner. GERD, according to Mayo Clinic, is "when stomach acid flows back up into the esophagus and causes heartburn." Other symptoms include backwash of food or sour liquid in the throat, upper belly or chest pain and trouble swallowing. A snack for Lizzo typically is low-sugar Greek yogurt with blueberries or blackberries and a little honey on top and she's traded multiple Frappuccinos a day for one cup of coffee with vanilla protein. TikTok has banned #SkinnyTok: Will it make a difference? However, at the same time, Lizzo says she does give into her cravings, occasionally indulging in a waffle with chicken tenders, crab legs, or a coconut cream–filled doughnut. 'There's a balance,' she says of her food choices. 'I think that's what true health is.' Lizzo, in January 2025, had announced she had achieved her "weight release goal," revealing she had lowered her body mass index (BMI) by 10.5 and lost 16% of her body fat since January 2023. The artist, in the interview, shared her journey toward health started after she was hit with a series of sexual harassment and weight shaming allegations, which she referred to as 'a shocking, really hurtful accusation,' during the summer of 2023. Lizzo has maintained innocence, and the case is ongoing in Los Angeles Superior Court. In December 2024, her name was dropped from a harassment lawsuit, USA TODAY previously reported. Lizzo told the magazine she did not take weight loss drug Ozempic during her journey, though she contemplated weight loss surgery and cosmetic procedures like a tummy tuck. While she chose not to go that route, she doesn't condemn it. The rapper had earlier also slammed allegations that she was taking Ozempic. Saman Shafiq is a trending news reporter for USA TODAY.
