WWE breaks 23-year tradition with fans shocked over 'mind blowing' twist

WWE fans witnessed history and the end to a 23-year championship legacy over the weekend. Last night, for the first time ever, a TNA Wrestling championship was defended on WWE television – and viewers tuning into NXT Battleground were stunned after a major twist. History was made in the main event as Trick Williams stole the win from TNA Wrestling World Champion Joe Hendry, meaning for the first time in its 23-year history, TNA's top title is now held by a WWE contracted superstar. Although the TNA Title itself has only been active since 2007, the company used the TNA World Heavyweight Championship for its first five years. It's a massive step in the partnership between WWE and TNA, and fans couldn't believe what they were seeing as Sunday's show went off air. 'A WWE superstar is TNA world champion.. I never thought I'd see something like this in my lifetime,' wrote @Formersoccerfan on X. A second fan, @TheDanHuelsman, added: 'The TNA Champion is a WWE Wrestler. Unreal times….' Another viewer, @HeelBalor, tweeted: 'Honestly, my mind is blown but in a good way kind of way this is insane. A WWE wrestler is now the TNA world heavyweight champion just WOW!' 'Is a WWE superstar now the TNA champion???? What is going on??? Rules have been broken,' raved @Lux00__, with @jackbeeton2002 saying: 'Never thought I'll see the day a wwe wrestler is a tna champion wow (sic)' 'Yo I can't believe that the TNA Champion is a WWE wrestler… 🤯🤯,' @2crack_17 added, and @JcAponte_35 said: 'A WWE wrestler is TNA world champion… weird timeline to be in #wwebattelground (sic)' TNA President Carlos Silva was on the front row at Battleground, and took to X afterwards to offer his congratulations while hinting at future plans in the pipeline. 'Congrats Trick. Make sure you take care of that belt,' he wrote, before adding: 'I'll see you in the TNA office tomorrow.' Fans have had a hint of what's to come, with TNA Wrestling star Mike Santana revealed earlier in the show that he would be waiting to challenge whoever walked out as champion. The result is also interesting when it comes to the future of Hendry himself, who has caught fire with WWE fans this year, including a shock WrestleMania match with Randy Orton last month. More Trending There has been plenty of speculation about whether or not the Scottish star will making the jump from TNA to WWE when his contract is up – and a decision could be made sooner rather than later. 'Who knows what's gonna happen next. I'm in my contract year right now, it's a very exciting time,' he recently told Chris Van Vliet on Insight. WWE Raw May 19: A new ally for The Judgment Day? Finn Balor introduces Roxanne to the faction

Roxanne Perez made headlines on the May 19 episode of WWE Raw in Greenville after forming an alliance with The Judgment Day. Earlier in the night, she defeated Becky Lynch and Natalya in a triple-threat match to qualify for the Women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match. But it was her moment with Finn Balor and the group that caught more attention. The latest addition to the Raw roster, Roxanne, appeared backstage with Finn Balor, who said Dominik Mysterio had been asking for new allies. Balor introduced Perez to the rest of the group, and although she is not officially a member yet, he called her someone they could rely on. Perez even brought gifts to make a good first impression. Chicken nuggets for Dominik and a bag of apples for Carlito. ROXANNE JOINING THE JUDGEMENT DAY?! 🤯THIS WAS NOT ON MY BINGO CARD!#WWERAW However, not everyone looked pleased. Raquel Rodriguez seemed unsure about the idea. Dominik also mentioned that Liv Morgan might not be happy when she returns, since she is still away filming her movie in Japan. Balor responded by saying Perez is just an ally for now. Tensions in the Judgment Day faction Raquel's body language made it clear she is not fully convinced about Perez being around. With Liv Morgan expected to return soon, things could get more complicated. Liv and Raquel have both been strong voices in the group, and a new face might not be welcome. It should be everyone's favorite day of the week; It's officially #MondayNightRox !!#WWERaw / @roxanne_wwe As Roxanne heads into the Money in the Bank match, her connection with the group could change things. If she performs well and earns trust, she might find herself closer to The Judgment Day circle. For now, she is only an ally. But in WWE, that can change very fast.

WWE Launches Match-Used Patch Programs For WrestleMania 41, RAW And SmackDown Debuts

wwe patch program WWE and Topps are teaming up to create a truly unique trading card. WWE and Topps announced a new WWE match-used Patch Program that will see WWE Superstars wear patches that will later be turned into trading cards. This is the first time WWE will offer the patches for trading cards. What is the WWE match-used Patch Program? The new initiative will launch at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas. All WWE Superstars who have a match at WrestleMania 41 will wear the patch. (A press release issued to WrestleZone noted that most talent will wear it on their boots.) In addition, the April 21 episode of RAW will mark the start of the main roster debut patch program. Any Superstar who makes their main roster debut on any future episodes of RAW or SmackDown will wear the patch. Advertisement After their respective matches at WrestleMania 41, RAW or SmackDown, the patches will be removed from the Superstar's attire and sent to be put into a 'one of one' trading card. Each respective competitor will also autograph the card at a later date. The cards will feature a COA/Fanatics Authentics hologram to authenticate the card, in addition to 'day, date and name of the event.' The new sets of Topps cards are expected to arrive in hobby shops later in 2025. There are currently 13 matches confirmed for both nights of WrestleMania 41. That number could increase as Randy Orton is still without a match due to Kevin Owens' neck injury. A total of 34 WWE Superstars will be in those matches, giving fans a decent chance at scoring one of these unique collector's items. WrestleMania 41 takes place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. This week's episode of RAW will also be in Las Vegas at the T-Mobile Arena. Bron Breakker, Penta, Dominik Mysterio & Finn Balor Set for WWE WrestleMania 41 Clash

WWE is reportedly planning a huge match between Bron Breakker, Penta El Zero Miedo, Dominik Mysterio, and Finn Balor at WrestleMania 41. Last week on WWE RAW, Bron Breakker defended his Intercontinental Championship against Finn Balor. Balor came up short due to accidental interference from Dominik Mysterio. On the show, Penta El Zero Miedo made his intentions clear by challenging Bron Breakker for the Intercontinental Championship. Meanwhile, Dominik Mysterio, who has been trying to recruit Penta into The Judgment Day, hinted at his own championship aspirations. During the Balor vs. Breakker match, Mysterio briefly locked eyes with the Intercontinental Title, teasing his desire to claim it. This week on WWE RAW, Penta battled Breakker for the title, but interference from Carlito and Dominik Mysterio cost him the match. Following the match, Finn Balor stormed the ring with a steel chair, attacked Bron Breakker's back, and handed the chair to Dominik Mysterio to continue the assault. Penta, confused by the situation, questioned Mysterio's actions. However, Dominik handed the chair to Penta. Balor hesitated, unsure if the luchador would side with them. Penta threw the chair back at Mysterio and nailed him with a superkick. Furious, Balor attacked Penta with help from The Judgment Day. With chaos unfolding in the Intercontinental Title scene, reports have emerged ahead of this week's WWE RAW that WWE is planning a massive Fatal Four-Way match between Bron Breakker, Penta, Dominik Mysterio, and Finn Balor at WrestleMania 41. Fightful Select (subscription required) reports that WWE plans to book a Fatal Four-Way match for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 41. The plan is for Bron Breakker to defend his title against Finn Balor, Penta El Zero Miedo, and Dominik Mysterio in Las Vegas. View this post on Instagram A post shared by WWE (@wwe) With recent events unfolding, all signs point toward a Fatal 4-Way match. It will be interesting to see how WWE plans to involve Dominik Mysterio in the mix, especially since he and Finn Balor are part of the same faction. How will Balor react to Mysterio also being added to the match? Only time will tell.
